He.) م ن أ ه ل م ك ة ق ب ل أ ن ي س ل م 'Messenger of Allah, would you buy this robe and wear it on Jumu'a and when delegations visit you?' He replied, 'Only a person who has no portion in the Next World could wear this.' Then the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was given some robes made of the same material. He sent one of the robes to 'Umar. 'Umar exclaimed, 'How can I wear it when you said what you said about it?' The Prophet replied, 'I did not give it to you so that you could wear it. You can sell it or give it to someone.' 'Umar sent it to a brother of his in Makka who had not yet become Muslim.") - Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 26 Omar bin Al Khattab (ra) saw a garment with a stripe of silk being sold and he told the Prophet (ﷺ) to buy it to wear for the Friday prayer or when meeting a delegation. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said this is for someone who would have no share. He didn t refuse it because it was not nice, but because it was haram due to the silk. Then someone else brought many of these garments as a gift to the Prophet.(ﷺ) He didn t take it for himself, but gave it to the Companions, and Omar bin Al Khattab (ra) received one for them. So imagine he was given the same thing that was forbidden to him before. So Omar bin Al Khattab (ra) went to the Prophet (ﷺ) to ask about this. The Prophet (ﷺ) said I didn t give it to you to wear, but to sell it or to gift to a disbeliever. The shirk that the disbeliever is committing is greater than wearing silk. You can gift the disbeliever as a kind gesture, so Omar bin Al Khattab (ra) gave it to a relative who was not yet Muslim. And this shows you can gift disbeliever parents and relatives. Chapter: ( ل ي س ب و ال د ي ه (ب اب (A person should not insult his parents) ح د ث ن ا م ح م د ب ن ك ث ير ق ال : أ خ ب ر ن ا س ف ي ا ن ق ال : ح د ث ن ي س ع د ب ن إ ب ر اه يم ع ن ح م ي د ب ن ع ب د الر ح م ن ع ن ( Hadith: ع ب د هللا ب ن ع م ر و ق ال : ق ال الن ب ي صلى هللا عليه وسلم: م ن ال ك ب ائ ر أ ن ي ش ت م الر ج ل و ال د ي ه ف ق ال وا: ك ي ف ي ش ت م ق ال : ('Abdullah ibn 'Amr said that the Prophet, may Allah bless him.) ي ش ت م الر ج ل ف ي ش ت م أ ب اه و أ م ه and grant him peace, said, "Reviling one's parents is one of the great wrong actions." They asked, "How could he revile them?" He said, "He reviles a man who then in turn reviles his mother and father.") - Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 27 Page 1

2 How do you insult your parents? Either directly or indirectly by insulting someone else s parents so they insult your parents. Another indirect way is by setting a bad example, so other s will insult your parents by saying what kind of upbringing is this? What kind of parents raised this child? Subhan Allah. Chapter: ( ع ق وب ة ع ق وق ال و ال د ي ن (ب اب (The punishment for disobeying parents) ح د ث ن ا ع ب د هللا ب ن ي ز يد ق ال : ح د ث ن ا ع ي ي ن ة ب ن ع ب د الر ح م ن ع ن أ ب يه ع ن أ ب ي ب ك ر ة ع ن الن ب ي صلى هللا ( Hadith: (Abu (عليه وسلم ق ال : م ا م ن ذ ن ب أ ج د ر أ ن ي ع ج ل ل ص اح ب ه ال ع ق وب ة م ع م ا ي د خ ر ل ه م ن ال ب غ ي و ق ط يع ة الر ح م Bakr (ra) reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "There is no wrong action more likely to bring punishment in this world in addition to what is stored up in the Next World than oppression and severing ties of kinship.") - Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 29 You will not find a sin that will be worthy to have the punishment hastened in the duniya, in addition to punishment that will be saved in the hereafter except for two sins. They are: o :(البغي) this means dhulm, to be unjust or unfair, oppress, transgression. To not give another person his rights. That s why it s important to know people s rights. o ( الرحم :(قطيعة to cut the family ties, and this includes the parents as well. Most people are unfair to those below them, but it s even worse to be unjust to those above you, like your parents. Some people repent after being nurtured, but there are those who don t see that they re oppressing others, rather they see themselves as being oppressed. May Allah (swt) have mercy on our parents and teachers. Ameen. Chapter: ( ب ك اء ال و ال د ي ن (ب اب (Making Parents weep) ح د ث ن ا م وس ى ق ال : ح د ث ن ا ح م ا د ب ن س ل م ة ع ن ز ي ا د ب ن م خ ر اق ع ن ط ي س ل ة أ ن ه س م ع اب ن ع م ر ي ق ول : ( Hadith: (Ibn 'Umar said, "Making parents weep is part of ) ب ك اء ال و ال د ي ن م ن ال ع ق و ق و ال ك ب ائ ر disobedience and one of the major wrong actions.") - Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 31 If your parents cry because of you then this is being disobedient to your parents. What makes parents to cry? Hurting their hearts. This shows that the tears of the parents have so much value with Allah (swt), subhan Allah. When you make them cry then it s considered disobedience to parents. You can t say they re sensitive that s why they cry, subhan Allah. Chapter: ( د ع و ة ال و ال د ي ن (ب اب (The Supplication of Parents) ح د ث ن ا م ع ا ذ ب ن ف ض ال ة ق ال : ح د ث ن ا ه ش ام ع ن ي ح ي ى ه و اب ن أ ب ي ك ث ير ع ن أ ب ي ج ع ف ر أ ن ه س م ع أ ب ا ( Hadith: ه ر ي ر ة ي ق ول : ق ال الن ب ي صلى هللا عليه وسلم: ث ال ث د ع و ا ت م س ت ج اب ا ت ل ه ن ل ش ك ف يه ن: د ع و ة ال م ظ ل وم و د ع و ة Page 2

3 (Abu Hurayra reported that the Prophet, may Allah (. ال م س اف ر و د ع و ة ال و ال د ي ن ع ل ى و ل د ه م ا bless him and grant him peace, said, "Three supplications are answered without a doubt: the supplication of someone who is oppressed, the supplication of someone on a journey, and the supplication of parents for their children.") - Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 32 There are three invocations that will be answered: the dua a of the oppressed, the dua a of the traveler, the dua a of the parents whether for or against their children. The conditions of these people are what makes their dua a powerful because they feel they re nothing and Allah (swt) has everything there is true servitude. Their dua as come from the heart because there are feelings of humiliation and brokenness. Dua a of the oppressed: to oppress someone is to be unjust to them, to put something not in its place. The one who s oppressed has a broken heart. And when the heart is broken, the dua a is powerful, that s why the dua a is accepted. Don t oppress anyone, even if they re a disbeliever. There was a lady fasting and praying the night prayer, but oppressed a cat and Allah (swt) took her to the hellfire, so what about a human being? Subhan Allah. May Allah (swt) never make us oppress anyone. Ameen. Once Abu Bakr (ra) and Omar bin Al Khattab (ra) were on a journey, and when they came back they told the servant to prepare food for them in the morning. When they woke up, they found him sleeping. They just said, he s a sleepy type. They told the servant to go to the Prophet through Jibreel of what (ﷺ) and ask him for food. Allah (swt) informed the Prophet (ﷺ) happened. The Prophet (ﷺ) told the servant to go back and tell them they ve already eaten. They said, we didn t eat. So they went to the Prophet,(ﷺ) and he told them I can see the servant s (ﷺ) flesh between your teeth because of what they said about him. Then they asked the Prophet to seek forgiveness for them and he said no, ask for forgiveness from the servant. Imagine they just said he s a sleepy type and he s a servant, so what about other words and those in higher positions? May Allah (swt) help us and forgive us. Ameen. The Prophet (ﷺ) said to be careful of the dua a of the oppressed because there is no barrier between this dua a and Allah (swt). If anyone oppresses you, show ihsan and don t make dua a against them. Pardon them so that Allah (swt) will pardon you and reward you. Dua a of the traveler: the traveler goes through a part of hardship while travenling, even if the accommodations are nice, there s still a feeling of being a stranger, unlike being a resident somewhere. The traveler s invocation is immediately accepted. Dua a of the parents for/against the child: don t let your parents make a dua a against you, and for the parents to be careful to not make dua a against their children. At the same time, seek the dua a of your parents you can ask them. And for the parents, make dua a for your children because it s accepted. The mothers and fathers hearts are broken for their children. If you re happy, they re happier, and if you re sad, they re sadder especially with the mother. The parents have a broken heart when they make dua a for you because no one feels you more than them. When something happens to you, you might not be as stressed as they are for you. Page 3

Abu Hurayra asked, "Prophet of Allah, who was the companion of Jurayj?" The Prophet replied, "Jurayj was a monk who lived in a hermitage. There was a cowherd who used to come to the foot of his hermitage and a woman from the village used to come to the cowherd.) - Al-Adab Al- Mufrad 33 Besides Eisa (as) speaking as a baby, another baby spoke. Juraij was a monk and this is pre-islam. He isolated himself for worship and he would remain in the same place. Beneath this place was a cow herder, and there was a lady from town and it is said that she had eyes for Juraij, but he was not interested. This lady had a relation with the cow herder instead. The mother of Juraij came to him once and called her son while he was praying. So inside himself he was debating should he continue with the prayer or respond to his mother. So he decided to continue with his prayer. His mother called him a second time, and again he continued with his prayer. And a third time she called, and he didn t respond. The mother was angry so she made a dua a against him. She said: O Juraij may Allah not make you die until you see the face of prostitutes. And this shows that he s not looking at anyone. Then the mother left. The lady from town got pregnant and delivered and the people caught her for having an illegal relation. She was taken to the king and was asked who is this boy from? And she said, Juraij because she was angry with him so she wanted to take revenge. The people were surprised, the one from the hermitage. So the king demanded that his place be demolished and to bring Juraij to him. His hands were tied around his neck, so he can t put his head down. While on this journey to the king, there were people looking at him, including prostitutes watching him. So of all the people staring, Juraij ended up looking at the faces of the prostitutes, then he smiled. Page 4

5 When Juraij met the king, the king told him this baby is from you. And the lady again said that the baby is from Juraij. Then Juraij came to the baby, and asked him, who s your father? And the baby spoke and said the cow herder. And this shows that Allah (swt) made the baby speak and this was great evidence that Juraij was not the father. The king felt bad so he wanted to make it up by building his hermitage from gold, Juraij said, no. Then what about silver? He said no, just make it as it was. Then they asked Juraij, why did you smile when you saw the ladies? He said it was a matter he recognized, it was my mother s dua a that reached me. This shows you need to respond to your parents while you re in a voluntary worship, but not obligatory. For example, you re in class and you re mother calls you you pick up and respond to your mother. May Allah (swt) never make us oppress anyone or hurt our parents. Ameen. Page 5
