Port Madison is abuzz with activity! The season is off to a great start with the first work party of the year under our belt. Thank you Brian Bjur for organizing all the volunteers who arrived to dust off the cobwebs and remnants from our otter friends. A big shout out goes to Rusty Lhamon and Peter Shorett and the rest of the gang who helped clean and reorganize the dinghy docks, allowing for a few more dinghy spaces and grouping dinghies by class. We will be labeling spaces at one of the next work parties so everyone knows where their boat goes when it s not out sailing in Hidden Cove and beyond Work Party #2 is this coming Saturday, April 25 th. Speaking of dinghies, our Friday evening dinghy series began with a bang. The season opened with what some of us would call foul weather with rains and gusts between knots, but in the words of Ros Weber It was PERFECT! Rumor has it that even Stasi went overboard. If you would like to crew or join in the series, please contact Michael Sydor. The Easter Bunny and the rest of us were fortunate enough to have the exact opposite conditions for the annual Easter celebration at Port Madison Yacht Club. The Montgomery family wok up on the Nancy Anne to the most serene and quiet morning at the guest dock, sun shining into the cabin and Easter eggs hidden around the deck. Conditions were perfect for an Easter party. A big thank you to Angela Bonifaci for organizing and to the Easter Bunny aka Keith Fetterman for bringing plenty of smiles to those young and old. We were able to get all the children that wanted to go for the balloon chase into boats and the time is coming to get them sailing their own boats, which means sailing school is right around the corner. Port Madison Yacht Club has a strong sailing program, with a two week sailing school in June and week-long sailing camps throughout the summer. If you have family or friends who are interested in learning to sail, please be sure to check out for more details. Registration on line is now open! If you re looking for moorage in Port Madison, the club has a few buoys available. Please contact Peter Shorett if you are interested. It s a very reasonable way to moor you boat, and let s face it, you re much more likely to use your boat that is already in the water rather than one sitting in your driveway! We are gearing up for a great season of sailing. Be sure to join us for Thursday evening big boat racing, Friday night dinghy racing, the Opening Day Race & Parade (bring your signal flags and join in the fun on Sunday, April 26 th ) and for all you cruisers out there, the shakedown cruise is coming up May 2-3 at Blake Island. 2 P a g e 2 P M Y C M a i n s h e e t Easter at Port Madison! Easter at PMYC was a very fun experience for all ages. With the help of Angela Bonafaci and the Easter Bunny, the kids hunted for Easter eggs filled with little finger puppets and stickers and other fun surprises. The potluck was a huge hit, and after lunch, kids went to chase balloons at the balloon chase. Finding Easter eggs will always be a treat, and especially when their filled with little finger puppets, stickers, and stamps! Kids enjoyed an exciting egg hunt, and then gathered together to trade their loot. Everyone was thoroughly satisfied with this egg hunt. Special thanks to Mrs. Angela Bonafaci, who made it possible. After the egg hunt, we started on lunch, our delicious potluck! We had lots of salads, a ham, rolls, and beautiful desserts. Yum! Lastly, all the kids went out in Thistles and V-15s to manhandle some balloons! The Bunny went out in the chase boat to drop balloons off the stern with his little helpers. When they were done, everyone came in to collect the prizes for the most balloons. Lhamon s Thistle crew, skippered by Danny Kessler were the big winners. Special thanks Angela Bonafaci and the Easter Bunny, Keith Fetterman and everyone who made this possible! We all really enjoyed it. By Molly Montgomer

So far there has been one VERY exciting night and one just plain spectacular evening of sailing. Come on down and sail, crew, help with the race committee or just hang out. Racing begins at 7, the docks are usually active at 5:30. For more information (or just come on down!), contact Michael Sydor msydor@msn.com

4 P M Y C M a i n s h e e t P a g e 4 Shake Down Cruise! We have developed a pretty good tradition, on the first weekend in May, to make a club shakedown cruise to Blake Island. As the photo attached will attest, it can be a warm and sunny weekend, with a fire on the beach, and often delicious fresh shrimp caught by Larry Witty, with help from Langley Gace. It can also be cold and rainy and we hunker down in our boats, as we did last year. But it is always a good way to kick-start the cruising season, by heading out before everything is finally in place for your summer cruise. It's a great outing for kids, and we always try to make a hike around the island. Our stay is on the west side of the island, where there are mooring buoys and more sheltered anchorage than on the south or east sides. This year however, we have a sendoff/shakedown planned for the weekend of May 16-17, as well! As most of you may already know, John and Donna DeMeyer are getting ready to leave their berth at PMYC for an ex- tended cruise. They will begin by go- ing north to Alaska, (as a shakedown) and then return to Port Townsend for final fitting and out the straits to the wide open Pacific. We would like to send them off with another little shakedown voyage, for their first night, to King- ston. Mark this date, but I will confirm when it is closer, so you can reserve your moorage and join us. Your Cruise Admiral, Kim
