2 Glass Tiger T11 The Glass Tiger T11 is an 11m luxury offshore cruising power catamaran designed by Ron Given and built in Henderson Western Australia by Seafest Marine. It is the latest in a long line of Tiger Designs by Ron Given that started in 1960 with the Paper Tiger. The Glass Tiger represents the elegance, functionality and inventiveness of one of mankind s most enduring creations glass. The use of modern fibreglass technology however, dispels any perception of fragility and replaces it with durability and strength. It is a stylish and highly efficient design that matches durability and functionality with luxury and spaciousness without the price tag usually associated with large and well appointed offshore cruisers. Built in sedan or flybridge versions this vessel can accommodate a wide range of private or charter applications. The design holds a world record for outboard powered offshore cruising with deliveries by sea from New Zealand to Noumea in an incredible 52 hours for a 900 nautical mile voyage. The T11 is a proven offshore cruiser that is still capable of getting up those shallow waterways and parking up in standard marina facilities.

Design Ron Given has been designing world class sail and power catamarans since 1960.

In 1987, Ron designed his first power catamaran and in 1991, he released his first outboard powered cruising power catamaran.

3 Design Ron Given has been designing world class sail and power catamarans since In 1966, Ron launched his first Paper Tiger sail catamaran that has gone on to world class fame with over 6,000 boats constructed. In 1987, Ron designed his first power catamaran and in 1991, he released his first outboard powered cruising power catamaran. In 2000 he presented his world class T11 with twin four stroke 225hp outboards built of composite fibreglass and marine ply using the West Epoxy System. In 2008 the T11 has been re-engineered for fully moulded production using controlled vacuum infusion technology, vinyl ester resins and carbon fibre reinforcing. Along the way, outboard powered plants have evolved and now offer up to 350hp adding even more torque and efficiency to the design. Throughout Ron s sailing and designing career he has maintained an enviable record of both safety and efficiency. The Glass Tiger is a fully moulded vinyl ester resin composite construction using combinations of multiple stitched fabrics with carbon fibre reinforcement and core cell linear polyurethane foam coring. These materials are then laid up dry and vacuum resin infused. The vacuum infusion process eliminates the inconsistencies of hand lay-up that is dependent on the laminator s skill. It completely does away with air entrapment and void problems that can compromise durability. The process creates the highest resin-to-glass ratio in marine construction of a 1/3 resin to 2/3 glass fibre ratio rather than the 2/3 resin to 1/3 glass fibre used in other builders processes. Higher glass fibre content results in greater strength-to-weight ratio and a lighter, yet stronger composite laminate. While this process is more expensive than the traditional chop spray or west system timber and glass composites, it produces a far stronger, lighter and more durable vessel. 5 Efficiency The Planing Tiger Almost without exception, large ocean going power catamarans are FUEL CONSUMPTION displacement or semi-displacement hull designs. Consequently, they lack in high speed capacity. Those designs seeking high speed find they need very large power plants and associated build weight, which compromises their efficiency. By using a light and efficient outboard power plant and super light construction techniques, the Glass Tiger can achieve enviable speed without compromising fuel efficiency. With a cruising speed of 20 knots, the flybridge version Glass Tiger runs at a highly efficient combined 2.5 litres per nautical mile (NM). At its optimum speed of 17 knots, it consumes 66 LPH and 2.02 litres per NM. The sedan is significantly more efficient.
