These are two magicians. They want to drive you out from your land with their magic, and take you away from your ideal way. He said: "I intend to wed one of these two daughters of mine to you, on condition that you serve me for eight years." "Put your hand in your bosom, it will come forth white without a disease; and draw your hand close to your side to be free from fear. Those are two Burhaans (signs, miracles, evidences, proofs) from your Lord to Fir'3awn and his chiefs. 6 Conjugation of the Demonstrative Pronouns for Dual The Demonstrative Pronouns for dual are having the same conjugation of the dual, e.g. they have أ ل ف in the case of م ر ف وع and ياء in the case of م ن ص وب and in the م ج ر ور case of ا س م الا شارة ال م ث ن ى ذا ا س م الا شارة ال م ث ن ى ال م ن ص وب / ال م ج ر ور ال م ر ف وع هذ ي ن ه ذا ن هات ي ن ه ات ا ن ن ك تا ن ك ذ ي ن ك ت ي ن ك In line 1 ه ذان خ ص ما ن ف ه ذان : م ب ت د أ م ر ف وع وع لام ة ر ف ع ه الا ل خ ص م ان : خ ب ر م ر ف وع وع لام ة ر ف ع ه الا ل لا ن ه م ث ن ى. لا ن ه م ث ن ى. ف In Line 2 ل س اح را ن ه ذا ن إ ن The particle إ ن is a light form of إن and it is called إن ال م خ ف ف ة. It also means إن has no role in the conjugation and is not doing the same job of إن Indeed. This that we studied before, so be careful. Also the لام at the beginning of the word ل ساح ارن is the اللام ال ف ار قة (Laam of differentiation) that, when it comes with إن it differ it from إن which means not Page 163

8 ال ب د ل A new grammatical position: The Substitute?ال ب د ل What is the Substitute When two words denote the same name, the second is called the Substitute and the first is called ال ب د ل ) ع ط ف ب يان the substituted. (In some books it is called م ن ه ال م ب د ل :ال ب دل Conjugation of Grammatically the substitute is a follower like the adjective. E.g. the substitute الب د ل follows be م ر ف وع, if will الب د ل,م ر ف وع is ال م ب د ل م ن ه in conjugation: if ال م ب د ل م ن ه is ال م ب د ل م ن ه and if م ن ص وب will be الب د ل, م ن ص وب is ال م ب د ل م ن ه. م ج ر ور will be الب د ل, م ج ر ور Examples of the substitute: 1- When two names are given to the same person: ج اء ال ف ار و ق ع م ر ب ن* ال خ ط اب The word which is another famous ال ف ار وق is a substitute for the word ع م ر,(ر ض ي االله ع ن ه May )ع م ر Allaah be satisfied with him ب ن ال خ ط اب proper name of and any of them can replace the other. The word ع م ر in this case will follow the word ال فار وق in conjugation. That is their saying with their mouths, resembling the saying of those who disbelieved aforetime. Allaah's Curse be on them, how they are deluded away from the truth! (Substitute ال خ ب ر with ال ب د ل Do not confuse In some cases the definite word after اس م الا شارة can be a, this depends on خ ب ر the meaning of the sentence. Example: and that is the great success س ور ة الن ساء ١٣ ÞΟŠÏàyèø9$# ã öθx ø9$# šï9 sœuρ ز The word as we see from the translation itself (it is ب دل not خ ب ر here is ال ف و coming after is). In most of cases - when the definite word is خ ب ر - we can see a separate pronoun (called ض م ير ع ماد Support pronoun or ض م ير ف صل pronoun of الم ب ت د أ separation) coming between the Demonstrative Pronoun in the case of and the Definite word in the case of خ ب ر. This pronoun has no position in the conjugation, it only emphasizes the meaning, but when you do your diagram, consider as if it was not there).
