This year has truly sailed by with our boat Nimbus participating in the Southern Sound Series, Spring Regatta, and a few Thursday nights before getting painted then going on to Whidbey Island Race Week. However, my participation this year hasn t just been racing. In my year as commodore, I ve met so many wonderful members at socials and cruises as well as getting to know the trustees and officers better at our board meetings and when hosting Sleep and Creep. I d especially like to thank Larry Wheir for all his help with the grill and breakfast supplies and Kersten Hubbard for letting me stay on her boat Tiburon, which is a big step up from Nimbus comfort-wise. Although I must admit at first the thought of becoming commodore was a bit overwhelming, over-all it has been an immensely rewarding experience and helped me gain a greater appreciation for TTPYC and its active members. Thanks to all of you who attended events or volunteered time this year, and if you didn t, I encourage you to participate in at least one event in The Change of Watch is coming up on October 18 th, and I hope to see you there! 2 Social Committee Volunteers Needed! Our next social event will be Change of Watch on October 18 at the Fairwood Country Club. It is always a great time. So we hope to everyone there! See you there! Racing News Steve Sisson Race Fleet Captain Jim Thompson, Assistant Race Fleet Captain We are closing in on the end of the 2014 racing season. Our last race is this Saturday. The preceding Saturday was a good racing day with sunshine and 10 to 15 knots of wind. Trophies for this year's racing will be presented at the Change of Watch. Another good reason to attend! Next year's racing starts with the Winter Series. It consists of two Saturdays of racing on November 1st and 15th. Remember to sign up for these races, and all subsequent races, on Regatta Net. 3 South Sound Series Shelley Conti I attended the fall Southern Sound Series meeting on Thursday, Sept 25 at the Tacoma Yacht Club. The dates for the races are: Tacoma Vashon Dec 6, 2014 Duwamish Head Jan 10, 2015 Toliva Shoal Feb 21, 2015 Islands March 14, 2015 It was noted that the Islands race is a week earlier than usual, so make sure you check back after the Seattle Area Racing Council calendar is published (around November) to make sure that date is correct. We will have the same program as last year. We will be using Regatta Network, so you will register on line, It will be a reverse start. The cruising and commodore boats will start first, then the slowest boats will start 30 minutes later, with classes starting in 5 minute intervals after that. Since we are registering on line and most of the boat register before Friday, the class breaks for the series will be decided Friday afternoon, before Winter Vashon, rather that late Friday evening. Team can sign up Friday at TYC before Winter Vashon. A team consists of three boats from the same yacht club. There is no class restrictions, so you can be in the same class. To qualify for the team trophy, all boats on the team must race in all four races. The SSS and Tacoma Vashon Notice of Race will be sent out by and put on the SSS and TYC web sites around November 1 st. There will not be a postcard announcement sent out this year. 4 Instructions for Using Regatta Network Shelley Conti We will have a link to the registration form from our web page, but you can also go to the Regatta Network web page ( Click on Calendar at the banner at the top of the page. Under Upcoming Events, you can sort (Order By:) State, which will put all of Washington towards the bottom, so our races will be easier to find. They will all start with TTPYC. To get to the registration form, click on Register Online next to our event. On the registration form, first click on Please Select Your Registration. Either Annual Registration or Series Fee. Click on Series Fee, except if you have paid for the annual registration at the beginning of the year (October See Race book I-E(2) for details). Put in Skipper Information. If you have a US Sailing number, if you put it in, the information will be put in from US Sailing (See gray box just under Skipper Information. You must put in a birthdate it has to do with Junior Sailing, I think. Put in Boat Information. If you do not have a sail number, put in none. Under Desired Class click on Please Select and select the class you want to race under. Put your rating, as you know it below. I will check the rating with PHRF or our handicapper for cruising class and may adjust it for scoring. You must click on Yes under I agree to the above: in order to continue. Then click on Enter My Registration. You will be directed to a page to pay for the series or race. You will get an from Regatta Network when you have successfully registered. IF YOU DO NOT, call me ( ). Where will be an automatic $5.00 increase in the race fee if you register after the first race of a series. You MUST register on Regatta Network to be scored.
