4 Dear Sail Clubs, This May (2008) we are organizing the first of two flotilla sails around Vancouver Island. Our flotilla sails will begin and end in Victoria, B.C. This sail experience may well be of interest to club members looking for a great, if not novel adventure, as well as some good sail training. We will be taking a leisurely 23 days to do this, and splitting this trip up into 4 legs (so as to enable sailors who do not have sufficient time to do whatever part of this circumnavigation suits them). Sailors can join our flotilla in their boats or if they do not have a boat, they can join us aboard ours. There will be opportunity for persons to upgrade their sailing skills: both CYA and ISPA sailing instruction will be provided. For more information please go to: The link above provides information which can be conveniently ed or posted. Thank you for any help you are able to provide in getting this information out to your members. Al Lubkowski, CYA Sailing Instructor, Blackfish Sailing Adventures Jim Mclaughlin, ISPA and CYA Sailing Instructor, Oak Bay Sailing School Ocean Pacific Marine
5 Hello Dave- I hope the following will explain our Marine Swap. If you have any questions, please contact us. The Deep Bay Yacht Club is currently working in conjunction with the Lighthouse Country Marine Rescue Society to build a new float at the Deep Bay Marina. The old float is deteriorating to the extent that we feel it is unsafe to host our summer youth sailing program this year. The Rescue Society uses the Yacht Club building to store equipment and hold meetings and training sessions so it is also anxious to see a new float in place. In 2007, we held our first Marine Swap, with proceeds going to the summer youth sailing program. This year we will be directing the proceeds toward the float replacement. The Deep Bay Yacht Club, a local group of boaters, will be holding its second annual Marine Swap on April 6 at the Bowser Legion. It is a consignment sale of used equipment that is in any way related to water activities boating, fishing, water sports, you name it! It will provide an opportunity for people to sell off items they may no longer use but are still too good to throw out, and a chance for others to find some bargains on equipment they might like to have. There are no limits on price or size of what can be sold except it should somehow be related to marine activities. DBYC will do the selling and keep a percentage commission. All that sellers have to do is pre-price and drop off items to sell, on the morning of the sale. Shoppers are looking for bargains; last year items that were reasonably priced sold quickly. The afternoon will be the time for the big sale. Advertisements and information have again been sent out all around Vancouver Island, and we expect there will be a good turn-out of both sellers providing an assortment of items and buyers looking for some exciting bargains. Where: Bowser Legion - on Hwy 19A, midway between Qualicum Beach and Courtenay When: Sunday, April 6/08 9:00 11:00 am drop off pre-priced articles for sale Noon 4:00 pm Sale of the year! 4:00 5:00 pm pick up unsold articles or they will become property of DBYC Who: Sponsored by the Deep Bay Yacht Club How does it work: You bring us your pre-priced articles; we do the selling. You receive 75% and we keep a 25% commission. Your payment will be mailed to you within a week. Gord Forster at , Thanks, Gordon and Karen Forster
