1 The LIVE OAK LOG MARTIN S POINT YACHT CLUB S OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER Encompassing Waterways and Sounds with Seamanship DECEMBER 2014 Martin s Point Yacht Club, 7037 Martin s Point Road, Kitty Hawk, NC VOLUME XXIII Issue FLOTILLA, A HUGE SUCCESS! This year s Flotilla Party, on Saturday, December 13 th, was one of our best attended parties ever! The evening commenced at 1700 (5PM) with a calm Jean Guite Creek following a beautiful December Day. Beautiful, festive Christmas Decorations adorned 12 boats. Guardian (Frank Spruill) started up the Creek past the Martins Point Marina then rounded the lighted marker by the Davis and proceeded back past the marina. Participating were Bald Eagle (Emmett Smith), Paro (Roy Smith), Hyper Striper (Norm Pokelwaldt), Tom Cat (Tom Franchi), Boiler Maker (Ed Overton), Top Dog (Jim Fordham), as well of the boats captained by Michael Serbousek, Steve Jones, Ernie Evans and Mike Davis. Also joining us from Southern Shores was the famous Molly B (Keith Berntsen and 6 very vocal singers). Eleven Martins Point boats gave us our longest parade to date. We missed the Joie De Vivre (Fred and Susan Smith), Liam Chop (John Koenig) and Skip Bennett. We look forward to them joining us next year along with all the others so the 201 Flotilla will be 15 boats long. all the rest of the fixin s. B.J. s Catering provided the delicious spread as they have done several times during the 2014 season. Homemade desserts completed the evening. Thank you to Marcha, and to everyone else who brought an appetizer or dessert. Additional Thank You s to all who helped with the final cleanup. What A Celebration: THE NICEST WEATHER! THE MOST BOATS! GREAT DECORATIONS! DELICIOUS FOOD! WOW! NOW THAT S A PARTY! Special thanks go to Jim Fordham, Suzette McMahon and Pamela Smith Following the parade, we congregated at the festively decorated pavilion for hot chocolate provided by our wonderful Marcha Thompson, appetizers made by our members and MPYC s annual chili dinner with corn bread, cole slaw and

4 MEMBERSHIP REGISTRATION FOR 2015 The MPYC operates on a February through January fiscal year. However, we usually don t collect dues until May. Consequently, our annual budget is based on a conservative estimate of our revenues. This forces us to be very cautious when we plan upcoming events; including choosing less expensive venues just to make sure we don t break the budget. With this in mind, the MPYC Board has decided to collect dues for 2015 during the last 2 months of our season -December and January. Please complete the form that is included below.
