3 OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY What can you expect from the employer? We will attend to the occupational health and safety of employees at work. We will create a safe work environment and working conditions which are not detrimental to health. We will organise a training in occupational health and safety for you. We will search for dangerous elements and processes in the work environment and in working conditions and ascertain their causes and sources. We will not allow you to do prohibited work or work whose demands do not match your abilities and medical fitness. We will ensure that you have sufficient, appropriate information and instructions with regard to occupational health and safety.
4 OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY RISK PREVENTION What can you expect? What is risk prevention??? The prevention of risks is understood to be all measures arising from legal and other regulations to ensure occupational health and safety and arising from the measures taken by the employer aimed at preventing risks, eliminating them or minimising them. The employer is obliged to search for dangerous elements and processes in the work environment and in working conditions and to ascertain their causes and sources. Based on these findings, to look for and assess risks and take measures to eliminate them.
5 OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY What do we expect from you? To attend training in OHS and be examined on your knowledge. To adhere to legal and other regulations and the instructions of the employer to ensure OHS. To respect the principles of safe conduct at the workplace and the information provided about OHS. To undergo the occupational medical check-ups, examinations or vaccinations laid down by legal regulations. To immediately inform a superior management employee of an occupational injury which you suffer, if your medical conditions allows, and of an occupational injury of another person which you witness; you must also cooperate in the investigation of the causes of injuries.
6 OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY What do we expect from you? To attend training in OHS. To undergo a test of whether you are under the influence of alcohol or other narcotic drugs at the instruction of the authorised management employee appointed by the employer in writing. To report any shortcomings and faults at the workplace to a superior management employee. To use the personal protective work equipment assigned to you.
7 OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY What can you expect from your manager? He/she shall ensure occupational health and safety at the workplace entrusted to him/her. He/she will cooperate with an expert in risk prevention. He/she will participate in looking for and assessing risks at the workplaces which he/she manages and propose measures to eliminate these or minimise their effects. He/she will implement specific measures to have arisen from risk analyses and work categorisation. He/she will know the measures in place to cope with extraordinary incidents (accidents, fires, floods), other risks and employee evacuation. He/she will ensure that the employees of another employer executing work at his/her workplaces receive information with regard to the measures taken to ensure OHS and FP (fighting fires, providing first aid and evacuating individuals in the case of extraordinary incidents).
8 OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY What can you expect from your manager? He/she will compile an actual curriculum for periodic training of his/her subordinates and train subordinates in OHS a minimum of once every two years. He/she shall keep documentation of the training in OHS and FP conducted or transfer it to a responsible person. He/she shall have an overview of inspections and revisions of electrical appliances, electric tools and technical equipment. He/she will eliminate the defects identified by inspections, tests or revisions of technical equipment. He/she will conduct inspections to ensure OHS and keep documentation about these. He/she will check that subordinates are using the personal protective work equipment issued to them.
9 Occupational medical care Medical care for employees classified under category 1 according to Work Categorisation is provided by the general practitioner of the concerned employee. The National Institute of Mental Health has a contract on the provision of occupational medical services in place with JACHTA in Klecany for employees classified under category 2 according to Work Categorisation. Types of medical examination: Initial examination when taking up employment Periodic Examination when leaving the company Extraordinary The employer covers the cost of medical examinations.
10 Occupational injury An occupational injury is harm to the health of an employee which occurs independently of his will on account of the short-term, sudden and violent effect of external influences. An occupational injury is also considered an injury which the employee has suffered in the execution of work tasks. An occupational injury is not an injury which the employee suffers on the journey to work and back.
11 Occupational injury The employer investigates occupational injuries to have occurred (hereinafter referred to as OI ), keeps the prescribed documentation, takes measures to prevent a recurrence of OI (the superior of the injured person always writes up a record of the OI). Employees cooperate with a qualified expert in the investigation of the causes of OI. The employer provides an OI Report to the injured person. The aim of investigating OI is to identify the cause and to prevent any recurrence. The injured person has the right to the following compensation: lost wages damages for pain and suffering compensation for material damage the costs of treatment
12 Procedure when an occupational injury occurs An employer at which an occupational injury has occurred is obliged to ascertain the causes and circumstances of the occurrence of this injury. Organisational measures: All occupational injuries are recorded in the Logbook of Injuries. The Logbook of Injuries is kept at the reception on the ground floor of the building next to the entranceway. Management employees (authorised employees) must enter each injury to have occurred at the workplaces which they manage and to have been reported to them in the logbook. Records of all occupational injuries are kept in the Logbook of Injuries even when they do not lead to incapacity to work.
13 First aid First aid must be provided immediately by whoever observes the accident. Brief summary of first aid procedure Contact 155 and act according to the instructions given, and immediately call a doctor. Stop any bleeding. Make sure that respiratory tracts are clear. Immediately administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the absence of a pulse. Inform the head of the relevant workplace as soon as possible.
14 Fire Prevention
15 OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY What do we expect from you? Do not cause fires to start. When leaving the workplace, leave that workplace in a condition which does not pose the risk of fire. If you discover a fire, you must report this to the Fire Report Desk (tel.: 111 at NUDZ) or by calling 150 (prefixed by 0) to dial out. You must know the location and types of fire protection equipment and fire safety equipment and allow an inspection of their operability to be conducted once a year. You must keep escape routes unobstructed, must ensure unobstructed access to distribution equipment, the main stops for media and fire protection resources. Adhere to technical conditions and instructions relating to fire safety with respect to products or activities. Ensure that workplaces are marked with the relevant safety signs, bans, orders and instructions and maintain these.
16 OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY What can you expect from your manager? He/she shall regularly check that FP regulations are being respected and will eliminate any defects identified without delay. He/she will ensure or enable maintenance, inspections and repairs of technical and technological equipment to be carried out within the deadlines laid down by the conditions of fire safety or by the manufacturer. He/she will know the fire-technical characteristics of the substances and materials used, processed or stored in order to be able to determine preventative measures. He/she will train subordinate employees in FP a minimum of once every two years. He/she will undergo training for management employees a minimum of once every three years. He/she will ensure that specified employees attend specialised training in preventative fire patrols a minimum of once a year.
17 The location of fire extinguishers The location of fire extinguishers must make it possible to use these easily and quickly. Fire extinguishers must be located such that they are easily visible and freely accessible. In the event that people have difficulty finding their way to fire-fighting resources, the relevant fire symbol is placed in a visible place to assist. Fire extinguishers are located in places in which the likelihood of fire is the highest, or within reach of such places. The handle of a fire extinguisher placed on a perpendicular structure must be a maximum of 1.5 metres above the floor. Fire extinguishers placed on the floor must be secured against falling in an appropriate way.

19 CORRECT USE OF FIRE EXTINGUISHERS Using a fire extinguisher in the correct way is vital in making sure this is effective. Correct procedure when extinguishing a fire with a power extinguisher is provided below as an example. CORRECT WRONG Extinguish the fire in the direction of the wind. Extinguish the burning area from the edge. Extinguish dripping and running substances from the top to the bottom. Extinguish burning walls from the bottom to the top. When using more than one extinguisher, use them all at the same time and not one after the other. Make sure that the fire does not start again. After you have used a fire extinguisher, make sure that it is refilled and do not simply put it back in place.
20 How to proceed when an evacuation is announced Stop work Switch off electrical equipment, machinery Close pressure cylinders Make sure that fire-protection closures are closed Try to maintain calm and do not allow panic to break out leave the building using escape routes and emergency exits go to the designated assembly point check the number of people there follow the instructions of the fire action commander What might help you Bend forward when you are moving along escape routes that are thick with smoke. Keep your head as low as possible. If possible, cover your mouth and nose with a handkerchief soaked in water (this will help breathing).
