3 Presence PR, PRC and PRE are ready to use medical oxygen cylinders complete with an integrated regulator-valve and flow meter which are intended to supply regulated medical oxygen to a patient or another medical device. They deliver medical oxygen either through a flow regulated barbed outlet or a fixed flow sleeved outlet. 4 1. Inspection checks to be performed by the User before initial use a b a. Check that a clear plastic heat shrink wrap with AIR LIQUIDE Healthcare logo is intact, and fully covers the shroud (refer Fig 1). Check that the cylinder is clean and free from oil and grease. b. Check Outlet Protective Caps are in place prior to removing wrap. When possible always replace the Caps when not in use (refer Fig 1). Figure 1 Heat shrink wrap and protective caps c. Check that the valve is in the red O OFF position (refer Fig 2). View the front of the valve assembly and identify all the components (the barbed and sleeved outlets and the pressure gauge). c d Figure 2 Outlets and pressure gauge d. Check that the pressure gauge shows the cylinder is fully charged and check that the pressure indicated on the gauge matches the pressure on the product label. If the cylinder has already been used, check the pressure gauge to ensure there is sufficient medical oxygen left. The coloured sections are an indication of the available contents: Green: Sufficient contents Yellow: Contents are getting low Red: Contents are low. Discontinue use and replace with a full one e e. Check the product label to ensure that the gas matches the application. Read the operating instructions provided on the label fitted to the side of the shroud (refer Fig 3). e Figure 3 Operating instructions and product label If any deviation is observed do not use the cylinder and contact your nearest AIR LIQUIDE Healthcare office on

5 2. Operational Information 2.1 Connecting to the Barbed Outlet a. Remove the cap and connect the oxygen tubing to the barbed outlet (refer Fig 4). a b. Turn the ON/OFF valve (outer ring) anti clockwise to show the green I in the portal on top of the valve (refer Fig 5). Figure 4 Tubing connected to the barbed outlet c. Select the flow rate, 1, 1,5, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12 or 15 litres per minute ( l/min ) by turning the flow selector knob at the top of the valve (inner section) clockwise. A click will be heard when each flow rate is selected until the desired flow rate is reached (refer Fig 6). b Figure 5 Valve in the green I ON position d. Medical oxygen is now delivered from the barbed outlet. e. When therapy has concluded, turn off the flow by turning the flow selector knob in an anti clockwise direction until it no longer moves and the green I is displayed in the portal. f. Turn the valve clockwise showing the red O in the portal. g. When required remove the oxygen tube from the barbed outlet and replace the cap. c Figure 6 Flow selector knob turned to the selected flow rate Ensure that the flow rate position is not in-between any available flow rate position as this may interrupt the supply of medical oxygen. 5

6 2.2 Connecting to the Sleeved Outlet: a. Remove the cap and connect the desired equipment to the sleeved outlet (i.e. hose or suction equipment) and ensure the fitting is sufficiently hand tightened (refer Fig 7 & 8). a b. Turn the ON/OFF Valve anti clockwise to show the green I in the portal on top of the valve (refer Fig 5). Figure 7 Hose connected to the sleeved outlet c. Use the attached equipment as required for proper dispensation of medical oxygen. The outlet pressure flow rate of the Sleeved Index Outlet is at least 50 l/min whilst the contents are within the Yellow and Green coloured sections of the pressure gauge. d. When therapy has concluded, turn off the attached equipment. a e. Turn the ON/OFF valve clockwise showing the red O in the portal. f. When required remove the attached equipment from the sleeved outlet and replace the Cap. Figure 8 Venturi Suction unit connected to the Sleeved Outlet g. When attaching a suction unit to a PRE cylinder, the use of a small extension piece will be required (refer Fig 9). Extension pieces should not be fitted to PRC and PR cylinders as this will cause the cylinder to become unstable. g h. When a venturi suction unit (or similar) is attached to the Sleeve Outlet, the pressure gauge on the Presence PR, PRC and PRE may be obscured. A close up view of the pressure gauge (such as looking under and around the device) may be required to ensure a clear viewing. Figure 9 Connection to the PRE Sleeved Outlet using extension piece Ensure that the extension piece is removed from the cylinder prior to returning the empty cylinder to AIR LIQUIDE Healthcare. 6

Troubleshooting Guide Fault/Concern No flow of gas Cannot connect to the Outlet Hissing noise Possible Cause Cylinder is empty Outlet Nozzle may be blocked Flow Selector in-between settings Blocked port in Flow Selector Hose diameter is wrong size Shroud is twisted Damaged Sleeved Outlet Gas leak Response to be taken Check that the Flow Selector knob or any attached device has not been left ON. If contents have been depleted then place unit in the empty cylinder storage area and replace with full one. If it s a first time use, then check the pressure gauge and if the gauge is in the red section immediately contact Customer Service and quarantine the unit for investigation by an AIR LIQUIDE Healthcare representative. DO NOT attempt to clear a blocked nozzle. Immediately contact Customer Service and quarantine the unit for investigation by an AIR LIQUIDE Healthcare representative. View the top of the Flow Selector knob to ensure the flow setting is visible through the viewing port. If the number is not clearly visible then rotate the knob till the required flow is clearly visible and clicks into place. Immediately contact Customer Service and quarantine the unit for investigation by an AIR LIQUIDE Healthcare representative. Check that the tubing fits firmly over the Barbed outlet. If not then replace the tubing. View the front of the unit and if the Shroud is twisted contact Customer Service and quarantine the unit. Obtain another unit for use. If the unit is required immediately, then twist the shroud back in-line and use as normal. At the completion of use, contact Customer Service and quarantine the unit for investigation by an AIR LIQUIDE Healthcare representative. Check that the thread is not damaged to either the Sleeved Outlet or the device it s being connected to. Check that the outer rim of the Sleeved Outlet has not been damaged and is circular in shape. Check the Hand wheel engages properly. If Sleeved Outlet is damaged then contact Customer Service and quarantine the unit for investigation by an AIR LIQUIDE Healthcare representative. First check to make sure that the Flow Selector knob has not been left ON. Do not attempt to stop a leak. Turn the valve OFF and immediately contact Customer Service and quarantine the unit for investigation by an AIR LIQUIDE Healthcare representative. Safety Information Read the Product label and MSDS before using. Do not use grease or oil or any oil-based product. Do not use or store near a naked flame, a source of ignition or combustible material. Do not smoke nearby and use appropriate signage. Use and store in a well ventilated area and store in a secure and upright position. Do not connect any device to the Fill Port located at the rear of the integrated regulator-valve. The metal cap shall NOT be removed under any circumstance. Refer to the warning label located near the Fill Port. Only attach fittings and accessories to the integrated regulator-valve that are compatible with medical oxygen Do not store Presence units in any area where insect infestation may occur. Do not place objects inside the nozzles and ensure proper protection of the outlet nozzles when not in use by using the plastic caps as supplied. Flow inaccuracies can be caused by back-pressure downstream of the integrated regulator-valve. Any repair, service or modification shall only be carried out by an authorised agent. 7
