And John knows a little something about longevity, he s the owner of Weldstar a specialty gas supplier that he first went to work for in the 1960s. Founded in 1936 in Aurora, IL, Weldstar now has facilities in Illinois and Indiana. Together with his three sons, Joe, Matt & J.B., they have made Weldstar one of the strongest independent specialty gas producers in the country. How do they do it? Service. When Joe says that all of his customers have his personal phone number, he doesn t mean his direct line at the office, he means his home phone. Because many Weldstar customers work on critical time lines, it s not unusual for them to call outside of normal business hours. On one occasion, a customer drove from Indiana in the middle of the night to pick up some critical components that no one else stocked.
