3 Course Title Description Prerequisites and/or Required Equipment Responding to Propane Emergencies Learn how to respond safely to emergencies involving LPG. Topics include physical properties, overview of containers and fittings, and tactical response guidelines. Four hour lecture in the class followed by a practical exercise to help students gain confidence and skill for dealing with a small propane emergency such as they most commonly might encounter. Full PPE and SCBA Required Completed firefighting essentials Building Construction & Ventilation Building Construction After completing this lesson, the student shall be able to recognize the various components of basic building construction, understand the effects of fire on common building materials, and identify the indications of imminent building collapse and construction hazards Ventilation All ventilation types will be addressed, The emphasis will be on instruction in Positive Pressure Ventilation. Class will define ventilation, List advantages of ventilation for rescue, attack, fire control, and suppression operations, List primary ventilation method used to prevent backdraft. building factors that aid in determining use of vertical/ horizontal ventilation. Special considerations associated with windowless buildings and basements. PPE Required The Art of Reading Smoke Often, smoke issuing from a building is the only clue available to predict fire behavior and the likelihood of a flashover or rapid fire spread. First-arriving officers, Incident Commanders, and Safety Officers MUST know how to rapidly read smoke this class explains the reading-smoke process Passport Accountability Explains procedures and needed equipment to implement a personnel and apparatus tracking system within the Incident Command System. Structure Arson 16 hours The primary purpose of this course is to provide a consistent knowledge and skill base for the Structure Fire Origin and Cause Determination along with collection and preservation of Evidence. The concepts taught in this course will help you in performing at acceptable levels.

4 Course Title Description Prerequisites and/or Required Equipment Critical Thinking for the Initial Incident Command On a structure fire the initial incident commander is faced with the expectation of making critical decisions in a compressed time frame. CRITICAL THINKING for the INITIAL IC uses Bloom s Taxonomy and Costas Levels of Intellectual Functioning methodology in addressing Critical Thinking as applied to the Initial IC when dealing with structure fires. We also look at the components and relationship of Criteria Based Decision Making with Recognition Primed Decision Making as they apply to fire ground decisions. Students will understand which criteria are critical and how to utilize these criteria in making effective decisions. This class is designed for the Initial Incident Commander For command level officers only Firefighter Essentials SCBA &Personal Protective Equipment Fire Behavior and Control Hose Streams Mayday SCBA Presents the components, functions and safety features of SCBA and PPE. Limitations of the equipment are also presented. Proper methods of using and caring for equipment are presented. Environments that require SCBA use are reviewed and procedures for donning, doffing, inspecting, maintaining SCBAs and changing SCBA cylinders are presented. Class will include exercises utilizing the Clearwater Fire Academy Confidence Trailer. The Trailer can be configured in a variety of ways to simulate actual fire fighting conditions. Fire Behavior and Control Emphasis on fire behavior and the phases a fire passes through as it grows, Includes tactics to attack and extinguish fires. Hose Streams Cover the Application of water or foam streams and using different stream patterns in fire fighting and Properties of water and foam. Mayday Identifies when and how and who should call a Mayday. Each person in class will bring PPE and The SCBA unit that they will normally be using during an emergency and a spare bottle Prerequisites: None Required: Full Personal Protective equipment including SCBA. PPE Required Fire Apparatus & Pump Maintenance Covers pump theory, pump component familiarization and operational checks, basic pump maintenance and fire scene Pumping procedures.

5 Course Title Description Prerequisites and/or Required Equipment Rope Rescue Awareness This class is designed to give the student an awareness and basic skills for rope rescue at the low angle This class covers identification of equipment and hardware, rope construction, knot tying, and low angle evacuation International Fire Code 20 hours Analysis of the intent of fire codes and how to apply them in individual fire districts. How to use good judgment and discretion considering the district s capabilities, apparatus, terrain and access roads to apply the codes fairly and equitably. Fire Chiefs & Assistant Chiefs & Officers IS-130 Wildland Training for Structural Firefighters 20 Hours This course addresses the foundational skills universal to all wildland firefighters This class is to train Structural Firefighters in basic Wildland firefighting skills. Firefighters who successfully complete this course will be qualified to suppress wildfires while under supervision. Before the Academy take S-190 online 6-8 hours courses/s190.html G-265 Basic Instructional Skills 20 Hours Every Fire Department should have a Training Officer and this course is for them. This course will discuss instructor preparation, presentation, and evaluation in relation to adult learning principles. This course provides a foundation from which participants can develop and enhance their instructional delivery skills This class is offered to Officers and Interior Firefighters. Engine Company Operations 20 Hours Covers scene evaluation, apparatus positioning, water supply, deploying and advancing hose, working with ladders, fire attack, and structure search techniques. (extensive hands on training) Students should be in good physical condition.. Successful Completion of Firefighter Essentials Required Bring Full Personal Protective Equipment including SCBA and 1extra tank. Required
