Disconnect the tool from its power source before attaching or removing the Pad (45C). 2. Rest the tool on a flat surface. Thread the Pad into the Drive Spindle (38C) until it is tight. 6 Dual Action Air Sander OPERATION 3. Place a 6 diameter pad of adhesive backed sandpaper (not included) onto the pad. Press it firmly into place. 4. To remove the sandpaper, peel it from the Pad (45C). You may need to use a scraping tool to completely remove it. 5. To remove the Pad from the tool, rotate the Orbital Hub (41C) vertical on the groove of the Drive Spindle (38C) to hold it in place. Rotate the Pad (45C) counterclockwise to remove it from the tool. To Adjust the Sander for Circular or Orbital Motion 1. The sander may be adjusted for circular or orbital motion. In circular motion, the sanding pad spins around its center. In orbital motion, in addition to spinning around its center, the entire pad rotates around the axis of the tool spindle. 2. To adjust the sander for circular motion, position the round edge of the Orbital Hub (41C) against the round edge of the Drive Spindle (38C). To adjust the Sander to move in an orbital motion, position the flat edge of the Orbital Hub (41C) against the round edge of the Drive Spindle (38C). Please see the photo. 17 Using the Sander CAUTION: Always wear ANSI approved safety goggles and full face shield, with dust mask or respirator while sanding. 1. Be sure all safety precautions are being followed. 2. Tighten workpieces to your workbench or other fixed base so that both of your hands are free to hold the Sander. 3. Set the air compressor regulator to 90 psi. Connect the Air Sander to the air compressor hose at the Air Inlet (2C). Use the Air Regulator (19C) to adjust the air pressure as required. 4. Check to be sure all attachments are secure before turning on the tool. 5. Grip the handle with one hand, and the Housing (1C) with the other. Depress the Trigger (16C) to turn the tool on. Allow the motor to reach its full speed before sanding. Be sure the tool is operating properly, and running smoothly before proceeding. 6. Apply the sanding pad to the work material at a slight angle. Move the sanding pad around the surface of the work material as needed. Do not allow the pad to remain in one place as this may burn the work material. If the sander slows down appreciably, you are applying too much pressure. Always keep your body and clothing away from the moving sanding pad. 7. When you are done sanding, remove the tool from the work material, and release pressure from the Trigger (16C). Allow the tool to come to a complete stop before setting it down. Disconnect the air pressure hose when the tool is not in use. Some Tips About Sand Paper 1. When sanding, start with a relatively coarse grit paper, and work up to a finer grit to complete the job. The grit selected depends on the job at hand. With bare metal finishing, you may start at 100 and work up to 600 grit. With paint finishing, you may start with 400 and work up to 2000 grit, for example. Your choice of grit depends on the job and your preferred method of working. NOTE: Harbor Freight Tools cannot be responsible for damage to property due to incorrect selection of sanding disc or grit size. Always practice on scrap material before using the tool on your workpiece. 2. Sand paper works by moving a large number of sand grains in an arbitrary pattern over the work surface. Because of the Backing Pad, these will produce a relatively uniform series of hills and valleys at the grain size of the grit used. Using the first grit selected, sand out any scratches or blemishes in the finish. You want to produce an even finish at the grain size of the grit being used. NOTE: Your Sander features an Air Regulator (19D), allowing you to vary the amount of air pressure to the tool. Turn the regulator knob clockwise to increase the air flow, counterclockwise to restrict it. SKU For technical questions and replacement parts, please call Page 17 REV 02/07

21 Cylinder (14D) Retainer Spring (15D) Trigger (16D) Chisel Regulator (4D) Air Inlet (9D) NOTE: Your Air Hammer features an Air Regulator (4D), allowing you to vary the amount of air pressure to the tool. Turn the regulator knob clockwise to increase the air flow, counterclockwise to restrict it. WARNING: Examine your chisels/bits before using them. If a chisel is dull or cracked do not use it. Replace worn or broken chisels with approved replacement chisels/bits from Harbor Freight Tools. 2. Connect the air hose to the Air Inlet (9D) and turn on the compressor (not included). 3. Grip the Air Hammer with both hands firmly and put the chisel/bit tip up against the workpiece you wish to chip. 4. Gently squeeze the Trigger (16D) and move slowly along the workpiece. Do not push down on the Air Hammer; let it do the work. If it does not do the intended job to satisfaction, examine your bit to see if it is worn or dull. Warning!! Always disconnect from the air source before examining or changing bits. 5. When you are finished, turn off the air supply and then hold the Air Hammer in a safe direction and Squeeze the trigger to bleed off the remaining air. Then, disconnect the air hose. Maintenance Warning!! Always disconnect from the air source before attempting maintenance. 1. After each use, wipe the Air Hammer down with a lint free cloth. 2. Make sure there are no concrete chips, dirt, or debris in the Retainer Spring (15D). 3. Before storage, add a small quantity of high quality pneumatic oil in the Air Inlet (9D) and operate the tool for a couple of seconds to lubricate and protect the internal mechanism.
