1 The Seaeye Cougar-XT Compact is a highly flexible and extremely powerful electric ROV with working depths of 300 metres. This system comes with almost all of the specifications of the very reliable Couger-XT only that this specially designed Compact version weighs less and is smaller in size. THE VEHICLE CHASSIS The extremely rugged polypropylene and stainless steel chassis is totally maintenance free, no corroding and self-supporting in seawater. Additional equipment can be bolted directly to the chassis for customisation. BUOYANCY The syntactic foam buoyancy block has apertures for a sonar, emergency strobe and tracking transponder. PROPULSION Four vectored horizontal and two vertical brushless SM7 500 Volt DC thrusters provide full three-dimensional control of the Cougar-XT Compact and the highest thrust to weight ratio in its class. COMPASS & RATE GYRO A flux-gate compass and a solid-state rate sensor give superior azimuth stability. Compass accuracy ±0.5 Resolution 0.351º Update rate 98 ms DEPTH SENSOR The system uses an electronic depth sensor accurate to 0.1% FSD accuracy.

2 EQUIPMENT INTERFACES A wide range of interfaces are provided as standard: 4 video 4 auxiliary(rs232/rs485/stp) 1 sonar 1 manipulator 1 CP 1 tooling motor Custom interfaces and configurations can also be provided. AUTOPILOT FUNCTIONS Auto heading Auto depth Auto altitude (optional) VIDEO SYSTEM Up to 4 simultaneous video channels are available (transmitted via 2 multimode fibres). TILT PLATFORM The robust high-torque tilt unit accepts two cameras and a light. The tilt angles are displayed graphically on the video overlay. LIGHTING 600W of lighting in two individually controlled channels are available, each with two fused 150W lamps and their own dimmer control. LED lights offering exceptional illumination and durability. VEHICLE ELECTRONICS POD The vehicle has a watertight and anodised electronics pod machined from 6082 marine grade aluminium and fitted with leak and vacuum alarms. CONNECTORS The Cougar-XT Compact uses Seaeye s proven range of metal shell connectors. TETHER TERMINATION The tether is electrically terminated in an oil-filled and pressure compensated vehicle junction box and mechanically supported by a cable-grip. SURFACE CONTROL AND POWER SUPPLY SURFACE CONTROL UNIT Surface control equipment can either be installed directly in the customer s facility or integrated into a custom ISO control cabin. The surface control system provides: AC and DC supply switching control DC current and voltage indication Control of video and video overlay A keypad for system configuration Interfaces for ancillary equipment ROV control system (via the hand control unit) MONITORS AND VIDEO OVERLAY The system comes with two 15 colour rack-mounted video monitors displaying the video signal from the cameras. One also displays the following overlay data: Heading Analogue compass rose Depth Tilt position Date and time Free text from keyboard TMS bail cable count (when used with a TMS) CP probe readings (if fitted) Vehicle turns count Leak & vacuum alarms 1 string of live data, e.g. altitude or latitude/longitude (optional) TELEMETRY MONITOR UNIT A telemetry monitor unit allows the ROV data (heading, depth, etc) to be displayed on a PC and/or exported to a survey computer, and is also a useful diagnostics tool. KEYBOARD A rack-mountable keyboard is supplied for entering data and free text onto the video overlay. HAND CONTROL UNIT The hand control unit provides remote control of the ROV (propulsion, tilt unit, lights, autopilot functions, etc). SYSTEM POWER SUPPLY The power supply unit incorporates protection devices, interlocks and cooling fans. Safety features include both AC and DC line insulation monitors (LIMs) to monitor electrical leakage in the system (with trips and alarm indicators) and to test the isolation of the system. 3-PHASE 9 KVA TOOLING POWER SUPPLY UNIT This unit provides a 3-phase 660V power supply at the vehicle for optional tooling, such as cutters or water jetting systems. CABIN JUNCTION BOX At the surface the umbilical cable is terminated inside a lockable cabin junction box.

4 Lock-Latch System The Cougar-XT compact Running Lock-Latch System comprises a Bullet Assembly, that replaces the vehicle s standard umbilical attachment point, and a Lock-Latch Assembly that can be used in combination with a lifting winch to launch and recover Cougar-XT compact ROVs without putting strain on the ROV umbilical. This is ideal for use on oil rigs or from other elevated launch sites. Some operators leave the lock-latch in the water following release of the ROV to act as a clump weight below the splash zone helping to keep the umbilical clear of the ship s propellers and thrusters. Figure 1 With the winch lifting wire shackled to the top and the door open, the lock-latch is fitted around the ROV umbilical. The door is then closed. Figure 2 The locklatch is then lowered down the umbilical to mate with the bullet. Figure 3 When the internal spring loaded latches (or dogs ) are fully engaged with the bullet on the ROV, two latch indicators click into the horizontal position to indicate that it is safe to lift the ROV. Figure 4 The weight of the ROV can now be taken on the winch wire and the ROV can be lifted. The umbilical is allowed to go slack.
