The six BASIC devices range from vascular Doppler or photo-plethysmograph (PPG) to comprehensive systems incorporating all standard physiological measurements to diagnose peripheral arterial disease (PAD). In the above table, the numbers are the numbers of channels. The small size of the BASIC makes it well adjusted for measurements by bedside, physician office, mobile service or anywhere space is at a premium. PORTABILITY, MOBILITY BASIC1, BASIC 2 and BASIC 3.1 are portable devices. As all the BASIC units, they are powered by the mains supply. They can also operate on an internal rechargeable battery and be fitted with a comfortable handle for optimized portability. The BASIC can be placed on an easily movable and ergonomic support. Two supports are available: Trolley I and Trolley Z. The trolleys are positioned precisely where they are needed and without effort. Trolley Z is especially recommended for BASIC 3.2 and BASIC 3.4. It offers facilities for the storage of the cuffs, sensors and probes. When not used, the cuffs can be placed on the handle shape dedicated storages.

While the user holds the probe on the patient, a single click on the foot switch pedal allows the measureme nt of the systolic pressure. The cuff is inflated by the BASIC up to the proper occlusion pressure. The cuff is deflated slowly by the BASIC for an enhanced accuracy. The return of the blood flow is determined automatically by the BASIC. The software automatically places a cursor at the time location which is suspected as being the time of the return of the blood flow. The cuff pressure at this time is displayed. It is systolic pressure. However, it is the total responsibility of the system operator and the medical staff to modify the cursor location according to their medical training, and define the correct segmental pressure.
