OPTISWIRL 4070 C SAFETY Intended use The vortex flowmeters are made to measure the flow of gases, vapors and liquids. These flowmeters are particularly suitable for measuring: Clean liquids with low viscosity (< 10 cp) Hydrocarbons with low viscosity (< 10 cp) Water Chemicals with low corrosiveness Saturated steam Superheated steam, including CIP and SIP applications in the food industry Industrial gases The meters are rated for the following flow velocities: From 0.3 to 9.0 m/s for liquids From 3.0 to 80 m/s for gases and vapors 1 1 DN15-3,0 to 45 m/s DN25-3,0 to 70 m/s If the danger of waterhammers can occur in steam net works appropriate condendsate separators have to be installed. If the danger of water cavitations can occur appropriate measures have to meet. WARNING! The operator himself bears the sole responsibillty for the intended use of the flow meter regarding the suitability and the comision resistance of the used materials against the measured fluid. The manufacturer sis not liable for any damage resulting from improper use or use for other than the intended purpose. Do not use any abrasive or highly viscous media < 10 cp. INFORMATION! The sensors are fabricated from stainless steel 316 L (1.4404) or Hastelloy C4. In your project planning, please observe the data given in the corrosion tables. The pressure-bearing parts have been designed and rated for stationary operation taking account of maximum pressure and temperature. External forces and moments, caused e.g. by pipe stresses, have not been considered thereby. Primarily, volumetric flow and temperature are measured, with pressure measurement as an option. From these parameters the flowmeter calculates the mass flow or standard volumetric flow using pre-programmed density data and then issues the measured values via various communication interfaces. 12/

OPTISWIRL 4070 C ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS Current output, electrical data Power supply INFORMATION! The supply voltage has to be between 14 VDC and 36 VDC. This is based on the total resistance of the measuring loop. To determine this, add up the resistances of each component in the measuring loop (not including the flowmeter). The required supply voltage can be calculated using the formula below: U B =R ges. 22 ma + 14 V where U B = the minimum supply voltage and R tot = the total measuring loop resistance INFORMATION! The power supply has to be able to supply a minimum of 22 ma. 12/
4 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS OPTISWIRL 4070 C Load for HART communication INFORMATION! For HART communication a load of at least 230 ohm is required. The maximum load resistance is calculated as follows: R max = U B - 14 V 22 ma 1 + ma 2 HART 3 A A+ B B+ Figure 4-2: HART current output connection 1 Power supply 2 Optional amperemeter 3 Load DANGER! Use a twisted two-core cable to prevent electrical interference from impeding the DC output signal. In some cases a shielded cable may be necessary. The cable shield may only be earthed (grounded) at one place (on the power supply unit) /
OPTISWIRL 4070 C ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS Pulse output, electrical data INFORMATION! When using the pulse output, two separate signal circuits are necessary if the pulse output is utilized together with analog signals. Each signal circuit requires its own power supply. The total resistance must be adapted so that the total current I tot does not exceed 100 ma Connection pulse output ma + 4 HART 3 A A+ B B+ Figure 4-3: Electrical connection pulse output 1 Power supply 2 Optional amperemeter 3 Load 4 e.g. counter 12/
4 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS OPTISWIRL 4070 C Configuring the pulse output The pulse output is a passive frequency, "open collector" output, isolated from the current interface and the sensor. It can be configured as a high current output or NAMUR output using a jumper on the amplifier board. Figure 4-4: Data pulse output 1 Pulse 2 closed 3 open 4 fmax = 0.5 Hz ms /
OPTISWIRL 4070 C ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS 4 Jumper in NAMUR setting R i = 900 Ω U max = 36 VDC The maximum frequency of the pulse output is: f max = 0.5 Hz Jumper in high current setting Open: Maximum voltage U max = 36 VDC Closed current I R < 1 ma Closed: Maximum current I max = 100 ma Voltage U < 2 VDC The maximum frequency of the pulse output is: f max = 0.5 Hz Figure 4-5: Jumper settings pulse output 1 Electronic insert 2 Jumper on board 3 Jumper in high current setting 4 Jumper in NAMUR setting 12/
4 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS OPTISWIRL 4070 C 4.5 Protection category The flowmeter meets all requirements of protection category IP 67. DANGER! After all servicing and maintenance work on the flowmeter, the specified protection category has to be ensured again Figure 4-6: Cable feedthrough Therefore it is essential to observe the following points: Use only original gaskets. They must be clean and free of any damage. Defective gaskets have to be replaced. The electrical cables used must be undamaged and must comply with regulations. The cables must be laid with a loop 1 upstream of the flowmeter to prevent water from getting into the housing. The cable glands 2 have to be tightened firmly. Align the meter in such a way that the cable gland is never pointing up 3. Close the unused cable glands using blanking plugs 4. Do not remove the specified outer sheath from the cable gland /
OPTISWIRL 4070 C ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS Earthing connections The earthing can be done either by connecting the PE terminal in the housing or the PE terminal on the connection piece between sensor and converter. Both of these electrical connections are equally effective from a technical point of view. Figure 4-7: Earth connection 1 Electrical earthing connection on piece between sensor and converter. 2 Electrical earthing connection earth on housing DANGER! The flowmeter has to be earthed properly to achieve accurate measurement. The earthing cabel may not transfer any interference voltage. Do not use this earth cabel to ground any other items of electrical equipment. 12/

OPTISWIRL 4070 C TECHNICAL DATA Functional principle Vortex flowmeters are used to measure the volumetric flow of gases, vapors and liquids at completly filled pipes. The measuring principle is based on the Karman vortex street. The measuring tube contains a bluff body, behind which vortex shedding occurs. The frequency f of the vortex shedding is proportional to the flow rate v. The nondimensional Strouhal number S describes the relationship between vortex frequency f, width b of bluff body and and the mean flow velocity v: f = S. v b The vortex frequency is recorded at the sensor and evaluated at the converter. v b b b Figure 8-1: Functional principle 12/
