2 PASSION AND COMMITMENT My coaching history and experience demonstrates a lifelong passion and commitment to alpine ski racing. I have developed many innovative strategies to enhance my athletes skills and experiences. One such strategy is the implementation of an innovative on-hill coach training and mentoring component in my U18 program. As a result of this strategy, we develop a highly competent source of well-trained coaches for our club program. Throughout my career, I have maintained close ties with the senior coaching fraternity in BC and across the country. As recently as last winter, I hosted the BC U18 team and coaching staff in training with my athletes prior to the U18 Nationals in Collingwood. I support the CSCF and Canadian Ski Coach development as a prerequisite to Canadian Ski Racing Athlete development.

4 WINNING: Winning is not just about the medals and the podiums. It is about performing your best, reaching your potential, and being the best you can be. The podiums will then take care of themselves. This philosophy is valid for every athlete at all age groups and is applicable to all aspects of life. Every athlete can be a winner and must be respected as equally important to the coach.

5 SAFETY It goes without saying that safety is a first priority for all club programs and activities. Over my career in ski racing, I have experienced the highs of athlete success at all levels as well as the lows from athlete injury and worse. I am a technical advisor to the Nik Zoricic Foundation promoting athlete safety in snow sports and providing event safety equipment to clubs, provincial and national organizations. I have also acted as the lawyer for ski clubs, athletes and parents in respect of legal matters pertaining to safety and ethics in the sport of alpine ski racing.

6 SKI RACING AND EDUCATION Throughout my career, I have felt that the co-ordination and balance of school and ski racing is of the utmost importance. I know and understand the challenge that our young athletes face from personal experience. While I believe that formal education should be a priority, participation in all aspects of sport and in particular ski racing provides opportunities for life skills that may not be learned in a formal educational setting. As an example to my commitment to athlete education, I am a cofounder of the National Ski Academy in Collingwood, which carries out a coordinated education and athlete training program.

7 CSCF LEVEL 4 PROGRAM DIRECTOR I completed the Canadian Sport Institute Advanced Coaching Diploma and CSCF Level 4 Program Director certification in May The two year advanced coaching diploma course offers the most cutting edge coaching and sport programming skills to highly experienced coaches from all sports. It teaches a comprehensive range of athlete and coach development skills, extending far beyond the technical aspects of each individual sport. No matter how long a coach has been working in his or her field, there must be a continual passion to keep up to the most current coaching practices, and to push the boundaries of coach and athlete development in sport

10 FAMILY AND BACKGROUND I was born and raised in West Vancouver, and my immediate family and most of my relatives live either there or in Whistler. I am supported in the pursuit of this job by my family. My wife, Tricia, has worked with me as a partner in our ski camp and coaching business and has an excellent understanding of the sport. As a teacher at the high school level, she has much experience working with young people and with community partners. She is a leader in the areas of developing and enhancing student leadership, social justice, fundraising, and event planning among other skills. She is interested in bringing her expertise to Grouse Tyee on a volunteer basis wherever she can be of assistance.

11 ERIN LATIMER. MEMBER CANADIAN PARA- OLYMPIC ALPINE SKI TEAM - CPAST Erin came to my U18 program 3 years ago as a competent but not exceptional 15 year old racer. Her commitment to the sport and her training was average. At that time, she was an athlete competing in the Alpine Ontario Division Race Series. I recognized her potential as a para-athlete and I created a training program for her within the club U18/FIS program. She now competes internationally in the para-alpine standing category. Her technique, confidence, mental training, and goal setting skills improved dramatically. Last winter, at age 17, Erin was selected to the Canadian Para-Olympic Alpine Ski Team (CPAST). She competed in Sochi Russia and had the best Canadian result in Giant Slalom. This is truly a coaching and program success and she has a very bright future in the sport.
