1 O N E C H U R C H, MA N Y D I SC I P L E S CA M PA I G N N E W SL E T T E R December 2018 CHALLENGE GOAL: $80,000,000 PLEDGED TO DATE: $73,226,410 92% OF CHALLENGE GOAL One Church, Many Disciples Ends 2018 on a High Note A Feasibility and Planning study in 2017 led to the first-ever capital campaign in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City: One First-Ever Capital Campaign in the Church, Many Disciples. The first 10 pilot Archdiocese Experienced parishes conducted the campaign process in Great Success in 2018 parishes across Oklahoma to set the stage for the remaining 97 parishes and missions to conduct the campaign. At the beginning of 2018, months before the beginning of the second wave of parishes and missions, the campaign had raised approximately $22.1 million. Over the course of this past year, families from the first three waves of parishes and missions came together and raised more than $50 million to support the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine, their local needs and shared ministries throughout the archdiocese. In January 2019, the fourth wave of parishes and missions will begin to conduct their portions of the campaign. With a collective goal of $9,345,000, the parishes and missions of the fourth wave will be the final wave of campaign activity, and will bring this historic effort in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City to a successful close. The tremendous success of the campaign will have an impact on the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City for generations to come. The shrine for Blessed Stanley Rother will provide a space to honor the native Oklahoman and illustrate his faithfulness through the museum and pilgrim center. onechurchmanydisciples.org 1 (405)
2 St. Monica Parish has new Building Blessed by Archsbishop Coakley Local needs already being addressed by returning campaign funds Archbishop Coakley visited St. Monica Parish in Edmond to celebrate Mass and bless their new St. Ambrose building. The new building will function primarily as a youth education building. St. Monica was one of the first 10 parishes to conduct the campaign as a Pilot Parish. The furnishings for the St. Ambrose building were paid for through the parish portion of the funds raised during the One Church, Many Disciples campaign. By the end of the first wave, St. Monica Parish had raised $1,870, percent of their parish goal. Per the campaign guidelines, parishes will receive 20 percent of what they raise up to goal, and 50 percent of anything they raise past their goal. St. Monica Parish will receive approximately $495,000 in total, and began receiving payments of those funds six months after their parish campaign was completed. Wave 4 Parishes Begin in January Final Wave of Campaign Will Start the New Year The final wave of 31 parishes and missions to conduct the One Church, Many Disciples campaign will begin at the end of January Launch meetings for Wave 4 will happen on January 24 at the Catholic Pastoral Center, and on January 31 at St. Joseph parish in Norman. The meetings will introduce the elements of the campaign and the campaign staff, and briefly explain how the campaign will be conducted. These two meetings will be for the pastors, deacons, and other lay leaders of the Wave 4 parishes and missions. Meet the Campaign Staff Mark Berlyn Mark Berlyn is the executive director of the One Church, Many Disciples campaign. He works for CCS, and has many years of diocesan fundraising and campaign experience. His wife, Lily, also works for CCS, and worked with St. Charles Borromeo parish on their portion of the campaign. He has two grown children, and lives in Oklahoma City with his wife and their three beagles. onechurchmanydisciples.org 2 (405)
