4 6. Historical and Thematic Associations The former Oakhurst farmstead at 1470 Bronte Road was constructed by William Cyrus Inglehart in the late 1880s. The farm comprised approximately acres, including land in Lot 33. Inglehart was a farmer, who arrived in Canada around 1823 and settled outside of Palermo. 1 William Cyrus lived at Oakhurst with his wife, Eleanor (née McLaren). Their son, Herbert Inglehart inherited the farm and raised an imported Scotch Bull. 2 The property was expropriated by the Provincial government as part of the Bronte Creek Provincial Park around Based on photographs of the site posted on Ontario Abandoned Places, The original barn (Figure 4) may have been partially or fully replaced, at some point, with a large metal or pre-fab barn building. The barn was used at one point for equipment storage, but it is unclear how long this use continued. The lakestone silo was also retained. The redbrick farmhouse was destroyed by fire on September 27, All other built resources were subsequently demolished.
