2 I look for the inherent drama in things as in the light and shadows that magnify or reduce a feature or shape. Alan Claude Influenced by American realist painter Edward Hopper and European travel posters of the 1920 s, the house Travel Poster Collection by award-winning graphic artist Alan Claude is a dramatic and bold interpretation of lighthouses and their surrounding environments. Early one September morning in 2004, Alan Claude and his fiancee Erin exchanged vows at Marshall Point in Port Clyde, Maine. This wonderful experience and subsequent visits to other lighthouses on the beautiful Maine coast inspired Alan to create the house Travel Poster Collection and other scenes of New England. Working in various mediums including pen & ink, photography, and digital illustration, my challenge was to create an original series with a certain freshness of expression. I wanted to reflect in this series the way I felt about lighthouses. The house Travel Poster Collection is a way to honor these historical treasures. With colorful contrasting imagery, dimensional light and shadows, these classic illustrations bring forward the strength and spirit of each light.
