2 DEAR POTENTIAL SPONSOR It s with great excitement that we announce the 4th Annual 2016 Sarasota SUP Race Championships at The Sandcastle Resort, Lido Key on Saturday, June 18 th, Evolved from the Sarasota SUP Race Series, we listened to our racers and decided to go all in with a single full day event at Lido Key! Comprising of a full day of races, entertainment, music, food and fun, the is a water and beach lifestyle event like no other. It shall provide a solid return for those companies wishing to maximize their marketing and promotional dollars as well as experience the sheer enjoyment of being a part of a world class competitive event. SUP has been said to be the fastest growing water sport in the world. And, the growth in Florida alone has been explosive as new participants are eager to explore local waterways while enjoying incredible physical activity. 3 2016 CHAMPIONSHIP RACE OVERVIEW The Sarasota SUP Race Series is now a single race called the Sarasota SUP Championships which takes place on the local hot spot site, at Lido Key Beach. This year s Battle of the Paddle format event will have the 5K, 10K and Grom races taking place in the cool temps of the morning and then the "SUP Rodeo" in the afternoon. Awards for all distance events are distributed during lunch so day travelers can be back on the road and home by dinner. The afternoon will center around competitive fun for all ages and abilities including: team sprint races, obstacle courses, live music, Hawaiian Luau, cold Kona brews, board and SUP equipment demos, over 40 surf/sup vendors and premium raffle prizes. So to recap, race in morning, SUP Rodeo in the afternoon and a day on Lido, this is certainly not to be missed! RACE DIVISIONS ELITE RACE 10K Men s, Women s & Junior 12.6, 14 and Unlimited Divisions OPEN RACE 5K Men s, Women s & Junior 12.6, 14 and Surf SUP Divisions DATE & LOCATION Saturday, JUNE 18 TH LIDO KEY GROM RACE 1K Junior Boys and Girls 12 & under SPRINT RACE COED TEAM RELAYS Free to all Elite and Open Racers Beach to buoy 100 yard dash. Elimination rounds to follow distance races AWARDS Awards are given to the top three finishers in each division. Overall winners in the Men s Elite 14 s and Women s 12 6 Divisions shall receive special trophies. There will also be a sportsmanship award given to the junior paddler who exhibits the qualities of a waterman, which include having a sense of fair play, showing respect for all and being stoked on the water! 3

4 2016 RACE SITE THE SANDCASTLE RESORT, LIDO KEY BEACH Lido Key is rich in history and is a hot spot for locals as well as vacationers, as it s the home of Sarasota s icon, St. Armand s circle. Walking the circle, which is surrounded by a variety of shops, restaurants, sculptures and pedestrians, is a must-do-see when visiting the area. The island truly is a hidden gem. The location is ideal for stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, boating, biking, relaxing and more. There are also many beachfront accommodations, shops and restaurants on the island. 4

5 PADDLE DEMOS KIDS PADDLE On race day, Sarasota SUP Championships will provide an on the water Stand Up Paddleboard experience for kids of all ages and levels. Race competitors and volunteers will be paired with a child and take them out on a board and paddle around educating them on the key basics of SUPing. This education is the core component of our mission, to promote a healthy lifestyle through SUP and the conservation of our beautiful waterways. ADULT PADDLE Adult demos will also be offered on race day, allowing adults to sample various styles and brands of SUP boards. This opportunity provides a firsthand SUP experience to those adults who have been newly introduced to the sport or those just wanting to learn more. It s also the ultimate opportunity to sample new brands or models on the water, especially if you ve been looking into buying a new board or even your first. 5
