1 Intrductin RLSSA Natinal Teams Selectin Plicy This plicy is relevant fr all athlete selectins int Ryal Life Saving Sciety - Australia Australian Representative Teams fr majr Pl Lifesaving cmpetitins including but nt limited t Cmmnwealth Lifesaving Champinships, Arafura Games, German Cup, Asia Pacific and any ther Internatinal Pl Lifesaving Cmpetitin as seen relevant by the Natinal Bard and Natinal Sprt Cmmittee. This Plicy will be due fr review and update n later than January RLSSA NATIONAL TEAMS SELECTION POLICY Aussie Barras 1.1 Applicatins The Natinal Sprt Cmmittee will call fr Expressins f Interest r applicatins fr the RLSSA Natinal Team (Aussie Barras). Interested cmpetitrs are requested t apply in writing n the relevant frm. Applicatins nrmally clse n the advertised date as specified n the frm. Late applicatins may be accepted due t extenuating circumstances at the discretin f the Natinal Sprt Adviser. 1.2 Natinal Team Selectin Panel A Natinal Team Selectin Panel (NTSP) usually cmprises the Natinal Sprt Adviser (Cnvenr), Natinal Team Cach and a Natinal Sprt Cmmittee member. The Natinal Team Selectin Panel meets t: i) Select the best pssible team, cnsistent with the particular cmpetitin fr which the team is being selected. The NTSP reserve the right t select team members n develpment ptential and; ii) Prvide the best pprtunities fr cmpetitrs t gain selectin in the Australian Lifesaving Team t cmpete in upcming Wrld Lifesaving Champinships and Wrld Games cmpetitins 1.3 Selectin Criteria The NTSP will set the selectin criteria, but will at least use the fllwing criteria: RLSSA Natinal Teams Selectin Plicy (Nv12) 1

2 Criteria fr eligibility fr selectin fr the Natinal Team are as fllws: i. Athlete must be a current financial member f the RLSSA; ii. Athlete must hld a current RLSSA Brnze Medallin r higher; iii. Athlete must have taken part in at least ne f the RLSSA Australian Pl Life Saving Champinships r ther RLSSA Natinal Pl Lifesaving event / RLSSA sanctined event as nminated by the Natinal Team selectin panel in the tw (2) years prir t the cmpetitin the team is being selected fr. Cmpetitrs must nte that the Australian Pl Life Saving Champinships immediately prir t the cmpetitin (fr which the selectin applies) may be the principal vehicle fr selectin in a Natinal Team subject t sectin 1.4; iv. Athlete must; in the pinin f the selectrs; be cmpetent, skilled and at the highest level f fitness required t cmpete at an internatinal level in the envirnment in which the cmpetitin (fr which the selectin applies) is t be held; v. Athlete must display the apprpriate sprtsmanship and cmmitment t the values f Ryal Life Saving Sciety - Australia; vi. Athlete must in the pinin f the selectrs have displayed lyalty t the Ryal Life Saving Sciety - Australia in the Lifesaving sprt and cmpetitin envirnment; vii. Minimum age requirement is 16 years f age at the date f the internatinal cmpetitin. 1.4 Team Selectin and ther factrs. In any year, where the internatinal cmpetitin fr which the team is being selected is t be cnducted twards the middle r end f the year; an Aussie Barras squad and/r a train-n squad will be selected after the crrespnding year Australian Pl Life Saving Champinships. The final selectin f the Aussie Barras team will take place a minimum f three mnths befre the internatinal cmpetitin depending n any utstanding circumstances. Cmpetitrs may be selected fr the Aussie Barras team wh are nt part f the Aussie Barras Squad r trainn squad. RLSSA Natinal Pl Lifesaving cmpetitins r ther trial selectin events as nminated by the NTSP in that year may be used as a selectin vehicle in the team selectin prcess. Therefre it is strngly recmmended that all cmpetitrs cmpete in RLSSA Natinal Pl Lifesaving events r ther RLSSA sanctined events thrughut the year. Other factrs/criteria that may be used by the Natinal Team Selectin Panel include but are nt limited t: i. Past natinal and internatinal perfrmances being perfrmances cnducted in ILS, RLSSA r RLSSA sanctined events that have ccurred since the event in which selectin is being cnsidered.; ii. Current natinal and internatinal perfrmances being any such perfrmance that has ccurred within the 12 mnths prceeding selectin. These perfrmances must have ccurred in ILS, RLSSA r RLSSA sanctined events; iii. Demnstrated and/r ptential ability t wrk with the caching staff, team fficials and ther team members; RLSSA Natinal Teams Selectin Plicy (Nv12) 2

3 iv. Any current r ptential injury r cnditin which will impair, inhibit r prevent the member s perfrmance t the requisite level. The NTSP reserves the right t deselect any member wh sustains an injury prir t the team s departure and wh des nt pass a fitness test t the requisite level. The fitness test and timing f the fitness test will be determined by the NTSP in cnsultatin with the Natinal Team Cach. v. The ptential f the member t successfully achieve the bjectives f this Plicy and f RLSSA under its Cnstitutin; vi. Any ther factr cnsidered relevant in the circumstances including but nt limited t selectin f athletes based n develpment ptential. 1.5 Acceptance All selected cmpetitrs will be required t ntify the Natinal Office f their acceptance f selectin t the Aussie Barras and/r train-n squad and the Aussie Barras Natinal Team by signing and returning the Cmpetitr Agreement by the advertised date. By signing the Cmpetitrs Agreement athletes will be frmally recgnizing that RLSSA has played a significant rle in their develpment as a Pl Lifesaving athlete. Fr selectin in future united Australian Lifesaving Teams fr Wrld Lifesaving Champinships and Wrld Games; athletes signing a RLSSA Cmpetitrs Agreement will be required t submit an applicatin thrugh RLSSA fr 36 mnths frm the date f accepting a psitin in a RLSSA Aussie Barras Team r squad. This applicatin will be frwarded t each athlete by RLSSA with guidelines fr cmpletin and submissin. T ensure there is n misunderstanding in relatin t this matter, the nly requirement f an athlete wh is a member f RLSSA and any ther Lifesaving rganisatin is that the athlete is required t tick bth membership bxes n the united Australian Lifesaving Team nminatin frm. Please cntact the RLSSA Natinal Sprt Adviser if any further clarificatin is required. Failure t fulfil this requirement will result in the fllwing actin by RLSSA: i. Request t the athlete t repay all mney cntributed by RLSSA fr their participatin in the current RLSSA team/squad fr which the RLSSA Cmpetitr Agreement applies. RLSSA Under 16 Australian Representative Team Junir Barras 2.1 Team Selectin T ensure the cntinued develpment f the Ryal Life Saving Sciety Australia s (RLSSA) Under 16 athletes t an Aussie Barras team standard, any cmpetitr wh has succeeded in gaining selectin in an RLSSA Aussie Barras (Open) representative team r equivalent in any ther Lifesaving rganizatin is n lnger eligible fr selectin in the Junir Barras r Silver Barras representative teams r squads. The team t be selected will cnsist f a minimum 4 bys and 4 girls In additin, a wild card nminee may be selected at the discretin f the Natinal Team Selectin Panel (NTSP). The team will be selected at the cnclusin f the RLSSA Australian Pl Life Saving Champinships by the Natinal Team Selectin Panel. A cmpetitr s levy may be required t be paid by each team member. Under 16 Representative Teams will nly cmpete in Australia. The minimum age fr representative teams travelling internatinally is 16 years. 5 1. The pints gained by cmpeting in all seven (7) events that cmprise the Under 16 Overall Pintscre at the Australian Pl Life Saving Champinships will determine the selectin f the team. 2. The first, secnd, third and furth placed verall by and girl n accumulated pints will be autmatically selected in the RLSSA U16 Australian Representative Team Junir Barras. 3. If; fr any reasn; a by r girl in the first fur places cannt take their place in the team, the fifth placed cmpetitr will be invited t be part f the team and s n dwn the list f placing until the fur places are filled. 4. T summarise; the pints accumulated in the fllwing individual Under 16 events at the Australian Pl Life Saving Champinships will be the selectin criteria t gain autmatic selectin n the team. U16 200m Super Lifesaver (Junir Australia Cup) U16 200m Obstacle Swim U16 100m Manikin Carry with fins U16 100m Manikin Tw with Fins and Tube U16 50m Manikin Carry U16 12m Line Thrw U16 CPR 2.3 Acceptance All selected cmpetitrs will be required t ntify the Natinal Office f their acceptance f selectin t the Junir Barras Squad and/r the Junir Barras Natinal Team by signing and returning the Cmpetitr Agreement by the advertised date.
