2 Enjoy a sizzling summer in Accora Village with our fantastic line-up of recreation programs! s can get moving with a variety of activities including badminton, basketball and personal weight training. For the kids we have a range of fun activities from floor hockey and basketball to cooking club and movie nights. To beat the heat, nothing tops a dip in either the indoor or the outdoor pool. Visit the Accora Centre for more information on how to love the summertime in your community! Membership Cards Complimentary memberships are available to individuals, and their immediate family members, who are listed under a tenancy agreement with Minto and reside in the Accora Village community. To become a member of the Accora Centre, Accora Village residents 8 years of age or older must obtain a membership card. Applications may be completed at the Registration Desk during regular facility hours with proof of residency (picture identification and your lease). A staff member will take your picture for the card once your application has been completed. Residents 7 years of age or younger must be accompanied to the facility by a parent, caregiver, or responsible youth who is 16 years of age or older, and who must remain at the facility for the duration of each visit. Please note that Accora Centre Access Cards are NOT TRANSFERABLE. Any misuse of Access Cards can result in suspension of use of the Accora Centre. Members acknowledge that photographs during community events may be used in future promotions. Refund Policy A full refund will be granted if a program is cancelled. In the event that a program is interrupted, it will be resumed at a later date. In the event of illness, a refund will be granted upon presentation of a medical certificate. A request for a refund must be received no less than seven (7) days before the program start date. An official receipt must be produced in order to obtain a refund. Refunds will not be granted for Exercise Room memberships. A $5 processing and administration fee will be charged for all refunds. Please remember... to bring your Accora Centre Access Card to every visit or access WILL be denied. to bring your own lock for the lockers and your own towel and swimwear for pool activities. no personal items are permitted to be left on the pool deck or in the Exercise Room during use. The use of the room is restricted to Accora Village residents who are 16 years of age or older. All members are required to complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (ParQ) before a membership may be purchased. Members are not allowed to bring guests into the Exercise Room. A valid Liquor License must be provided to the Accora Centre Manager at least 48 hours prior to the party. All party rooms must be booked by appointment. All room bookings must be paid for by money order only. On-duty staff may enter the room for inspection at any time. In order to book a party room you must present a copy of your most recent Lease Agreement and payment must be made at the time of booking by a money order. We accept personal cheques for damages. The Lap will no longer be offered at that time. Lap Lap Lap Lap Accora Village Pool Rules and Regulations 1 Children under the age of 8 years old MUST be accompanied to the pool and into the water by an adult over the age of 16 years old. Maximum two children to one adult. 2 Patrons must be able to swim two widths of the pool without stopping (the swim test) before being allowed into the deep end of the pool. Any person not able to complete the swim test must remain in the shallow end and beach area at all times. Proper swimwear must be worn; NO cut-offs, long constricting clothing, basketball shorts, or boxer shorts may be worn. A bathing suit MUST be worn under clothing and NOT underwear or bras. 4 Please bring your own bathing suit, towel and lock. 5 Always listen to the lifeguards. Staff members have the right to enforce rules and punish offenders. If you have any questions about these rules, please feel free to speak to the lifeguards, Aquatic Supervisor or Recreation Manager. 6 In the event of maintenance or technical issues the pool may be closed without advance notice. 7
5 Aquatic Programs For more information call Day and Time: Monday to Friday 9:00am 12:00pm Session 1: July 4 to July 14 Registration deadline: June 0 Session 2: July 18 to July 28 Registration deadline: July 14 Session : August 2 to August 12 Registration deadline: July 28 Session 4: August 15 to August 25 Registration deadline: August 11 Cost: $45 for nine 0-minute group lessons $ 9 per private lesson Non-residents may join this program for a $5 fee per registrant, per session. Each lesson is 0 minutes in length and is taught by a certified Lifesaving Instructor. Group lessons provide a social yet highly directed environment that allows you to learn the skills you need to succeed in the water. Low student to instructor ratios ensure that you still receive the individual attention you may require. Private lessons provide one-on-one instruction to help you improve your swimming skills, and they re based entirely on your individual needs. Limited space is available, and all classes are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. The schedule of each session is based on registration and will be set in the week before the first class. There are no refunds or credits for cancelled lessons unless a medical certificate is provided. Also, there are no make-up lessons for any classes that may be missed (both group and private). Lifesaving Society Program Parent & Tot Program Overview Spend quality time with your child while you both have fun, learn and socialize. Through structured in-water interaction between parent and child, we stress the importance of play in developing water-positive attitudes and skills. We provide Lifesaving Society Water Smart tips to keep your child safe in any aquatic setting. Certified instructors provide guidance and answers to your questions. Because activities and progressions are based on child development, you must register in the level appropriate for your child s age: 12 months, months, or 2 years. Preschool Program Overview Give your child a head start at learning to swim. The Lifesaving Society Preschool Program develops an appreciation and healthy respect for the water before kids get in too deep. In our basic aquatic progressions we work to ensure that to 5-year olds become comfortable in the water and have fun acquiring and developing a foundation of water skills. We incorporate Lifesaving Society Water Smart education in all Preschool levels. mer Program Overview The Lifesaving Society s 6-level mer Program is designed to make sure that your children learn how to swim before they get in too deep. mer progressions accommodate children 5 years and older including absolute beginners as well as swimmers who want to build on the basics. We stress lots of in-water practice to develop solid swimming strokes and skills. Set your own goals as you work with certified instructors to learn to swim, or improve your current swimming ability and water fitness. You ll develop water confidence as well as smooth, recognizable strokes that are good enough for lane swimming and perfect for the beach. We incorporate Lifesaving Society Water Smart education in all levels. 101: You ll work towards a 10 15m swim on your front and back. You ll be able to do jump entries from the side and support yourself at the surface for seconds. You ll also be able to recover an object from the bottom of chest-deep water. 201: Kick it up a notch by working towards a m swim. You ll be able to perform dive entries and demonstrate breaststroke arms and breathing over 25m. You ll also develop sculling skills and strengths over 10m, and show off your handstands in shallow water. 01: No sweat (or at least none anyone can see)! You ll be doing m continuous swims and sprinting 25m. You ll be front crawling, back crawling and breaststroking over 100m. And, you ll be sculling feet first and swimming 25m head-up. Whew! ming Learning to swim or just hoping to perfect your strokes? Either way this is the program for you. Instructed by our highly trained Lifesaving Society Instructors, this class is only for those 16 years of age or older.
