4 INTRODUCTION SOME ADVICE BEFORE YOU START DRAWING: All art forms are a means of expression that enable us to live with greater intensity. They teach us to be more receptive, so that we are able to distinguish different tones in a range of colors and easily identify the various techniques. CHOOSE A QUIET AND WELL-LIT WORKPLACE. HAVE THE NECESSARY MATERIAL AT HAND. DON T RUSH. ENJOY.
5 ALIENS Draw aliens in three simple steps. In the third step, you can paint it how you like. 6 7 Invent new characters using shapes A and B. A B ALIEN: A STRANGE CHARACTER OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN.
6 ROBOTS Two simple, flat shapes. We add volume. Three simple shapes. We add volume and join them together. We draw the arms. 8 We draw the legs. 9 Now for the antennae, the face and the legs. 6 We draw the antennae and the tail. And now for a lovely eye. WE PAINT IT. A robot is a machine that imitates human behavior. It can be in the form of either a human or an animal. We add the detail and paint it.
7 BALLERINA Look at the head and body; they are very simple geometrical shapes. We draw the arms and legs. We draw the hair and a nice expression on the face. We add volume to the arms and legs. We draw the shoes. We finish off the body and erase the lines. 0 LOOK! We continue erasing the lines and now we have the dress. We complete the details! Let s paint her! SHE DANCES TO THE SOUND OF THE MUSIC. 6
8 FAIRIES Fairies are very feminine and conceited. They decorate their hair with flowers, fruit and ribbons. Three simple shapes. We draw the arms and legs. Now for the wings and the magic wand. We paint it. You can change the color of the dress and hair. REMEMBER: They have butterfly or dragonfly wings. These are very delicate.
9 PIXIES I m sure you can draw a pixie in three steps. Two simple shapes, Now we draw the hat, We draw the trousers the arms and legs. the sleeves and the shoes. and the belt. 6 PIXIES ARE VERY NAUGHTY SPIRITS THAT LIVE IN HOUSES AND HIDE THINGS. Different hats. We add volume to the arms and legs. We finish off the details. We paint it!
10 GHOSTS We start with three triangles. One triangle. Two triangles. Four triangles. How many triangles have you got now? 6 We round off the shapes. We draw the details. We paint it! We round off the shapes. We draw the eyes and mouth. 7 Here are three different ghost faces. WE ADD SOME SCENERY AND PAINT IT.
11 OGRE Two very simple shapes. We perfect the details. 6 We draw the arms and legs. We create the face. 8 9 We add volume. 7 We draw the boots. WE COLOR IT IN! An ogre is a man who is very tall and out of proportion, bad tempered and greedy. He always smells quite bad. His skin color can be blue, green, violet or brown.
12 UNICORN We finish off the legs and draw the tail. Now for a beautiful mane. 6 0 Look closely! A triangle, a rectangle and four lines. We add volume to the legs. We finish off the details and... PAINT IT. 7 A unicorn is a fantasy animal with a horse s head and a horn on its forehead. It s a good friend of the fairies and pixies. We give volume to the neck. We round off the shape.
13 DRAGONS Two oval shapes. We outline the neck and the legs. We start with three shapes: The head, body and wings. We mark the curves of the wings, as well as the ears, horns and legs. Now we add volume to the neck and legs. We draw the tail. We finish off the detail and paint it. We finish off the detail and paint it. DRAGONS ARE MY THICAL CREATURES THAT SPIT FIRE AND BREATHE SMOKE OUT OF THEIR MOUTHS.
14 MERMAID We add volume to the arms and draw the hands. Draw a circle for the head and a rectangle for the body. Draw the fish s tail. Outline the arms and hands. DON T FORGET THE HAIR WITH THE STARFISH. A nymph with a fish s tail and a melodious voice. She attracts sailors with her singing and keeps her treasure in the caves at the bottom of the sea. 15 HARLEQUIN Three simple shapes; the arms and the legs. Now we broaden the arms and legs and finish off the hands and feet. 6 We draw the neck of the clothing and the hat. 7 6 We give him a cheerful (smiling) face. We give shape to the neck and head. This is a comical character wearing clothing with bright and colorful geometric shapes. We finish off the detail. LET S PAINT HIM!

17 TRIBAL CHIEF We draw these four geometrical shapes. We improve the drawing, adding volume to the arms and adding two feathers. 0 Now for the arm and the leg. 6 Now we draw the whole crest. We draw the hair, hand and the waist. We finish off the details and paint it. THE TRIBAL CHIEF IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON OF HIS GROUP.
18 MAGICIAN We finish of the hands and place a hat on his head. Two simple forms. We draw the arms and legs. We draw the tunic with very straight lines. We finish off the details. 6 Now for the neck, sleeves and the ribbon. The men who do magic can make stars and colored scarves come out of their magic wands and also take a bunch of flowers, doves and even a rabbit out of an empty hat.
19 LADY CLOWN We give her a very cheerful smiley face. We give her a hat with flowers and two plaits. Three simple shapes. 6 Now for the neck, arms, hands and the feet. We draw her trousers with braces. We finish off the details and paint her. CLOWNS ARE CHARACTERS FROM THE CIRCUS WHOSE JOB IT IS TO MAKE PEOPLE LAUGH.
20 PIRATE We have three simple shapes. We outline the arms and legs. Be careful! We finish off the hat; we give him a hook and a wooden leg. 6 We draw the face. We finish off the detail! 7 We add volume to the clothing. 6 PIRATES SAIL THE SEAS ATTACKING THE SHIPS THEY FIND TO STEAL THE LOOT FROM THEM.

In the stories, the brave prince saves the princess from dragons and witches spells.
23 THE KING We start with two simple forms. Give him a crown and finish off the hands. Draw his face and give him a scepter. Draw the nose, ears, beard and neck of the clothing. Now we give shape to the clothing. Observe the geometrical form of the sleeves and draw the hands. THE KING IS THE MAN WHO RULES THE KINGDOM. HE LIVES IN A PALACE OR A CASTLE. 6
24 THE QUEEN We start with two simple shapes. Finish off the crown and the hands. DON T FORGET THE NECK. Trace the cape and the crown. Now give her some hair and a belt. 6 Finish off by drawing her face and painting her. Draw the sleeves and the hands. The queen is the woman who rules the kingdom. She can govern alone or with by the king.
25 SOME SMALL Now we draw a JELLYFISH in three steps. SEA DWELLERS It isn t difficult to draw STARFISH. ANEMONES come in many different shapes. Here is one. 6 7 Look closely. There are five arms and a point. CONCHES aren t difficult to draw either. You can also draw a SHELL. It s very easy. Finally, we draw a LIMPET.
26 SEAL Two simple shapes. Two ovals. Four fins. We round them off. 8 9 We give shape to the four fins. We mark the shape of the fins and draw the nose. BABY SEALS ARE SCARED OF WATER, BECAUSE THEY CAN T SWIM. We paint it! WE PAINT IT!
27 FISH An oval shape. The fins and the tail. A circle. We draw a line inside the circle. With four triangles, we draw the fins and tail. The eyes, mouth and we paint it. 0 We draw an eye and the mouth. IN THE DEP THS OF THE SEA, THERE ARE SHOALS OF FISH; THEY ARE GROUPS OF THE SAME SPECIES THAT SWIM TOGETHER. Now an oval shape and a triangle. We draw the body. We finish it off and paint it. THE SOLE IS A FISH THAT PRACTICES MIMICRY, THAT IS, THE COLOR OF ITS BODY BLENDS INTO THE COLOR OF THE SAND.
28 PENGUINS Follow the six steps and you ll see how easy it is to draw them. Here are two penguins, one facing you and the other one in profile. 6 PENGUINS ARE BIRDS THAT GROUP TOGETHER TO PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM THE COLD. 6
29 SQUID SEAHORSE Follow the seven steps to draw the squid. Now follow the five steps to make the seahorse. 6 Finish it off and paint it! 7 FINISH IT OFF AND PAINT IT! DID YOU KNOW THAT SEAHORSES MEASURE FROM TO 0 CMS LONG?
30 WHALE For the first whale, we begin with three simple shapes. We round them off. For the second whale, we use five simple shapes. We round them off. 6 We draw the mouth, the fins and improve the tail. 7 We draw the fins and finish the tail. We add some detail. NOW WE CAN PAINT THEM!
31 DOLPHIN SWORDFISH We start with two easy shapes. We draw the tail and nose. To make the swordfish, we draw an oval shape. Then we add the tail. Don t forget all the fins. 8 We round off the silhouette. 9 Now for the mouth and fins. We paint an eye and the mouth. And to finish off, the SWORD SHAPE. WE PAINT IT!
32 SHARK Draw a shape similar to a drop of water. To draw the second shark, we repeat the first two steps. The tail is like a moon. 60 We add the fins and the mouth. Then we draw the fins and mouth. SHARKS HAVE FIVE ROWS OF TEETH, WHICH IS WHY THEY ARE SO DANGEROUS. 6 We finish it off and paint it. We finish by drawing the eyes and teeth. We paint it!
33 SHIP S CAP TAIN We draw the jacket, lengthen the sweater and draw on the beard. We draw the initial shapes. We finish off the face and hands. 6 6 The neck and the moustache. We give him a hat and trousers. 6 We paint him. THE CAP TAIN IS THE LAST ONE TO ABANDON SHIP IN THE EVENT OF SHIPWRECK.

36 CHICKS COCKEREL With two circular shapes positioned differently, you can make several chicks. Three simple shapes to start the cockerel. 68 We draw the beak, the crest, the jowl and a wing. 69 We draw the legs and tail. We round them off. DID YOU KNOW THAT... chicks are wet when they emerge from their eggs? We finish the detail and paint it.
37 GOOSE We are going to draw the goose from two points of view. We draw the first one in profile. 70 In this other version, we draw the goose more from the front. 7 Geese are OVIPAROUS animals. This means that they form inside the egg.
38 TURKEYS We start with two shapes: The head and the body. We draw the neck. 7 We continue with the beak, the wings and the tail. Now for a peacock. You can do it on your own. It is a lot like the previous one. 7 To finish off, we give it some legs and WE PAINT IT! DID YOU KNOW THAT... the colorful feathers that open out into a fan shape are used to seduce its mate?
39 SHEEP GOAT Follow the four steps to draw the sheep in profile. First we draw the head and body shapes and then we add the horns and tail. 7 SHEEP PROVIDE US WITH WOOL. We round off the shapes. 7 Now you can draw a sheep from the front. We draw the ears and the nose. We shape the legs and give it some hooves. NOW PAINT IT!
40 DOGS We are going to draw these two dogs in three steps. Now we draw another one in fours steps, starting with two simple shapes. We continue with the legs and tail WHEN A DOG WAGS ITS TAIL, IT MEANS THAT IT IS HAPPY. We mark the nose, ears and finish off the details. NOW WE CAN PAINT IT.
41 PIG Now another one in five steps. In four steps, we draw a little pig One from the back in three steps. DID YOU KNOW THAT ALL THE PARTS OF THE PIG ARE USED? EVEN THE HAIR, WHICH IS USED TO MAKE BRUSHES AND PAINTBRUSHES?
42 RABBITS You can also draw a rabbit in profile, in three steps. 80 It is very easy to draw rabbits. Here is a rabbit in three steps. If you want to draw the ears raised, look at this other one. THE MOTHER RECOGNIZES HER YOUNG BY THEIR SMELL. IF YOU TOUCH THEM, THIS SMELL WILL CHANGE AND THE MOTHER WON'T CARE FOR THEM. 8 What do you think of this one with an ear bend down?
43 HORSES Now, draw this horse in just three steps. Look very carefully! 8 We draw three simple shapes and add the legs. We give volume to the legs. We draw the ears and the tail. 8 We round it off. WE PAINT IT! WHEN A HORSE'S EARS ARE ERECT, IT MEANS THAT IT IS HAPPY. IF IT TURNS THEM TO THE RIGHT, IT MEANS THAT IT IS ANGRY.
44 COW And from the side, in five steps. First we draw it from the front. 8 DID YOU KNOW THAT... cows lick stones to obtain mineral salts? 8 Then from the back. Cows keep the grass in their stomachs and then they bring it up to their mouths to eat it little by little.
45 FARMER Three simple shapes and we draw his limbs. We give him some socks and shoes. We draw his trousers and sleeves A smiling face and a straw hat. 6 Now for his collar and hands. FINAL DETAILS AND THEN PAINT IT!
46 THE LANGUAGE OF COMICS NOW LOOK! There are many types of bubbles. Some can be filled with letters and others with symbols. A Look at these two children: A and B. B Child A falls over. 47 LIGHT AND SHADOW Look at these three cubes. One of its sides is lighter. Sides A, B and C are lighter. Draw a box with a well-lit face. A B C Draw a letter or character and cut it out. Place the outline on a sheet of paper. Paint the inside of the outline in a soft grey color LET S CONTINUE: Now look at this rounded figure. It has a point of light. If we move away from this point, the picture gets darker. Thus we can give volume LIGHT to a circle (light and dark). Look closely at this apple. Try to draw one with light and shadow. You could also use a real apple as a model. Stick the letter or character over the shadow you have just painted, displacing it slightly. DARK IF YOU SHINE A LIGHT ON A WALL AND PLACE YOUR HAND IN FRONT OF IT, YOU WILL SEE THE SHADOW. Add some color. Look at the result! CONGRATULATIONS, ARTIST!
48 HOW TO DRAW THE SEA Light from the sky and surroundings give the water its color. A To draw the sea, the first thing you must consider is whether it is calm or choppy. The horizontal lines give a sensation of calm (A). The wavy lines give a sensation of movement (B). The points give a sensation of roughness (C). A green sea usually has a lot of algae. On a rainy cloudy day, the sea is seen darker and grayer. B 9 9 C On a clear day, we see it bluer. When the sun rises, it appears tinged with yellow, red and orange. Look at drawing D. If you didn t have the boatas a reference, you wouldn t realize how big the wave is. D SCALE IS VERY IMPORTANT. On a full moon night, it is dark with some white and silver reflections. During the sunset, it can acquire different tones such as pink, lilac and violet... LOOK FOR PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE SEA AND OBSERVE THE COLORS. First make a list of the tones you see. Then draw the one you like the most.
49 THE DISTANCE BETWEEN LINES If we draw a road with trees along both sides, the first trunks will be further apart from one another, as shown by the vertical lines. Now we will explain some simple facts that you will find very useful: 9 9 When drawing a ploughed field, we use the lines to provide a sense of distance. The further away we look, we draw them closer together and the same goes for objects, which we will draw smaller. Closer to us, we draw the furrows further apart. WHICH CARROTS ARE THE LARGEST, THE ONES AT THE FRONT OR THOSE AT THE BACK? THE MORE DISTANT TRUNKS ARE CLOSER AND CLOSER TOGETHER.
