1 THE POOWONG PRATTLE Friday 9th, February, 2018 School Council Parent Members: Geoff Warriner ( Pres.) , Karyn Hill (Sec.) , Melanie Wallace (Treas.) , Kelli Olsen ,, Brad Mc Intosh , Royce Nieuwerth , Michael Kendall , Caroline Wilson , Brock Churchill What s on this Term February 13th 15th 21st 23rd Pancake Day. Getting to know you interviews Swimming Carnival-9am-2pm School Photos District Swimming. Prep Photos Happy Birthday to the following students who had birthdays this week: Kohen Mandemaker, Briley Staben, Kye Cecil, Dahlia Foster. 2nd 12th 15th 29th March Division Swimming Labour Day Holiday Regional Swimming Last Day of Term Well done to Crystal, Lachie and Bradley for an awesome first week of school. I look forward to seeing your fantastic collaboration and focus on learning through the year Congratulations to Grade 6 for receiving the first grade award for the year! Keep up the fantastic focus and energy. A Message From Mrs McKenzie Swimming Our swimming sessions have started and will finish on Wednesday next week. A huge thank you needs to go out to Desirae Hancock, Moose and Holly Enbom for their fantastic organisation and leadership of this years swimming sessions. I would also like to make a huge shout out to all of those parents who helped out by getting in the pool to help reduce group sizes and give some individual attention to the kids. We honestly could not run this program at our local pool without your support!! Thank you also to parents who walked, came down to the pool to help and to those of you who offered help in any way. It is greatly appreciated!! Next week the weather is not going to be as hot, however it is really important that our children learn to swim in all sorts of weather conditions. We will monitor the conditions next week and let you know if swimming is NOT happening. Swimming Carnival On Thursday we will be running our swimming carnival down at the pool. You are more than welcome to come along and watch the carnival. It is predicted to be 22 degrees so I would suggest making sure that students bring an additional towel or jumper, in case they get cold. Students in Grades 3-6 will leave just after 9am to go down to the pool and Grades Prep-2 will come down at 11am to join in the fun games and races. We will be having a sausage sizzle, provided by the school, as a welcome to the new school year. Students should also bring their snacks, drink and lunch in case they want more to eat. I will be co-opting some parents on Thursday at the pool to fire up the BBQ and get the sausages cooked!! Uniform Concerns A few people have expressed concerns with new uniforms pulling etc. I am meeting with representatives from Beleza on Wednesday morning, however I need complaints ed to me with photos so that I can pass this on (I think they may think I am exaggerating the issue!!). If you have swapped your child s uniform over and have already got pulls, runs, threading in them already, please me your concerns to our school address at poowong.cs@edumail.vic.gov.au. At this stage I have asked them to look at other options for fabrics or alternative manufacturers so that this does not continue to be an issue for all of us. Thanks for your understanding and feedback.
