2 Lap-A-Thon FAQ's What is our Lap-A-Thon/ Spaghetti dinner? All funds raised from will be used improve the equipment for the aquatics department at the Lima YMCA (ex. New track-start blocks, replacement touchpads, new timing system...). Lap-A-Thon is a fundraiser in which participants earn money for their team by swimming lengths of the pool. Swimmers have a 2-hour period to swim laps. Swimmers get flat donations from family, friends, neighbors, businesses, etc. prior to swimming. Remember the Y is a Non-profit and donations are tax deductible. Fazoli s will provide the spaghetti dinner. Each Barracuda family will receive 6 dinner tickets to sell at $8/ticket. When and where is Lap-A-Thon/Spaghetti Dinner? Both events will be held at the YMCA on October 30 th, 2016 Lap-A-thon will start at 1:00 p.m. and go to 3:00 p.m. The spaghetti dinner will start at 12:30 p.m. and go to 2:30 p.m. What will we do at Lap-A-Thon? All swimmers will swim laps and be challenged to swim as many laps as possible. Parents will cheer and volunteer! We will need lap counters, food servers, set-up crews, cleanup crews, etc. Be sure to sign-up for a job on the Swim-a-thon Event on Team Unify. How do we raise money for Lap-A-Thon? Pledge Form Letters Mail out pledge letters to everyone you know! Grab your address book and go for it! Relatives and friends are great for sending pledge letters. A sample of the pledge form letter can be found on pages 4-7 of this packet. Envelope Collections Use your manila envelope and ask everyone you know to sponsor you. Be sure to include neighbors, classmates, and co-workers of Mom and Dad when asking for donations! Swimmers will bring the envelopes with the donations to the Lap-A-Thon and turn them into Coach April. Corporate Sponsorships In an effort to achieve our goal, we are offering Corporate Sponsorship opportunities. Before asking a business to sponsor our Lap-a-thon, please Jared Lehman (the CEO of the YMCA) at lehman@limaymca.net. We would like Jared to handle all Corporate Sponsorship efforts. You will still get credit for any corporate donation. o Bronze Sponsorship of $100: Will receive an advertisement space on our Barracuda s Swim Team Website and on our team t-shirts. o o o Silver Sponsorship of $250: Will receive an advertisement space on our Barracuda s Swim Team website and on our team t-shirts, and a fourth of page advertisement on all home swim meet heat sheets for the season. Gold Sponsorship of $500: Will receive an advertisement space on our Barracuda s Swim Team website and on our team t-shirts, a half of page advertisement on all of our swim meet heat sheets and a sponsorship banner hung in the pool area. Platinum Sponsorship of $1000: Will receive an advertisement space on our Barracuda s Swim Team website and on our team t-shirts, a full page advertisement on all of our swim meet heat sheets, a sponsorship banner hung in the pool area. * To have Name on our Fall Fiesta Invitational T-Shirts, Donations have to be made by Friday, October 28 th 2

3 Corporate Matching Matching Gift Programs are charitable giving programs set up by corporations in which the company matches donations made by employees to eligible nonprofit organizations. For example, if a donor works for Bank of America and donates $250 to a nonprofit organization, Bank of America will then match the donation and write a check for $250 to the same organization. Note: This process can take several weeks to process depending upon the corporation. How do I win prizes? First, sell the spaghetti dinner tickets. Every 3 tickets sold gets your name entered into a drawing for prize. Sell, Sell, Sell There will be multiple winners based on Swim Group, Age & Gender Be the Number 1 sales swimmer for both selling spaghetti dinner tickets and collecting sponsors for the Lap-a-Thon. What is the deadline for turning in donations? The deadline for turning in donations is October 30 th, Spaghetti ticket money should be turned in October 20 th, 2016 When and where can I turn in my donation envelope or spaghetti dinner monies? There will be a box in Coach April s office for both. Please make sure it is in the envelope you were given with your name and total written on the outside. Please turn in all donations, envelopes, unsold tickets, etc. to Amy Amspoker (aamspoker@elida.k12.oh.us) or in the box in Coach April s office. DO NOT give them to Fazoli s or the Lima YMCA Front Desk. What if I have questions? Please all questions to jbowlus6@me.com. This will be monitored daily throughout the fundraiser to ensure all questions are answered. 4 Dear, I am a swimmer for the Lima YMCA Barracudas Swim Team. I work hard at practice week after week in order to learn all four competitive strokes from my coach. Then I go home to complete my homework for school. My day is busy, but I am learning a lot and enjoy what I do. I will be in the same pool at the Lima YMCA on Sunday, October 30, 2016, swimming at our Lap-a-Thon to raise money to purchase equipment for the aquatics department that will benefit my team and the High School teams that practice and compete at the YMCA. 5 Dear, Every day after school, and Sundays as well, I train with my swim team, the Lima YMCA Barracudas. I am a competitive swimmer. Swimming is truly a wonderful sport; It teaches me much more than just proper swimming technique. I have learned that goals should be set and that plans should be made in order to meet these goals. Sacrificing certain things is part of attaining goals, and hard work is fundamental to this process. Our team has a lot of programs to help children get better at swimming, from swimming lessons to pre-competitive swimming to swimming at National meets.
