2 Learning to swim is an essential life skill and one of the best gifts we can give our children. Total Fitness Swimming Academy offers a fully comprehensive and progressive programme of swimming lessons for all our junior members. Children s Lessons We will teach your child a wide range of skills which results in a competent, confident and safe swimmer who will have a love of swimming and a skill base to develop further techniques in a wide range of water-based sports. The Total Fitness Swimming Academy is delivered by professional, highly trained, motivated teachers who are passionate about teaching swimming. All our lessons are safe, fun, progressive and comprehensive. All swimmers are given a swimming lesson Progress Card which allows parents/guardians to continually monitor their child's progress and keep in touch with what is being delivered during a lesson. All swimmers are continuously assessed and badges are awarded when achieved. How do I book swimming lessons? Please fill out the swimming lesson application form on the back of this leaflet and hand it in at reception. Our swimming coordinator will contact you to confirm your application has been received. At this time you may be offered a swimming lesson place however our lessons are extremely popular and their may be a waiting list. We will always try to place swimmers as quickly as possible up to week four of a swimming course. After week four of a course no swimmers are accepted. However swimmers will be offered intensive courses, one to one lessons or a priority place on the following course. One to one lessons are booked in the same way, however we book throughout the swimming term when places become available. How do I pay for my swimming lessons? Once we offer you a swimming lesson place, we will send you a swimming lesson enrolment form which contains all your course details, please bring this to reception prior to the pay by date shown on the form and pay for your lessons either by cash, cheque or credit card. 3 Learn to Swim Programme shark dolphin swimasong building confidence in water Swimming lessons specially for 0-3 years. A fun, innovative and effective programme for introducing adults with babies or very young children to the exciting world of aquatics. It incorporates water safety, free movement, structured play, exercise to music, and guidance in physical and educational development. TM Dolphin is the first level of our learn to swim programme. We will concentrate on water confidence and installing a love of the water through games and play whilst teaching the foundations of swimming without our swimmers knowing it! By the end of this level swimmers will be confident in the water, able to propel themselves in a variety of directions and jump in. The second level of our learn to swim programme is Shark. Within this level a great range of equipment will be used to provide interactive, fun and enjoyable lessons for our swimmers. By the end of this stage swimmers will be able to swim 7 metres unaided on their front and back. 2

4 Improver Programme goldfish TF1 The first level of our Improver programme is Goldfish. The time spent on water confidence and gaining a love of being in the water really comes into its own now. The building blocks to swimming all four competitive strokes begin in this level. By the end of this level, our swimmers will be able to swim 10m confidently, demonstrate an understanding of all four strokes and perform a range of skills from push and glides, sculling, treading water and picking objects up from the pool floor. starfish TF2 The second level of our Improver programme is Starfish. Starfish level will see our swimmers perform three competitive strokes, breaststroke, backstroke and front crawl over at least 10m. They will be able to perform 10m of basic butterfly leg kick and complete a length of sculling. This level also progresses the already learnt skills needed for learning to dive. Swimmers completing this level will now move onto swimming lengths. seahorse TF3 The third level of our Improver programme is Seahorse. Our swimmers of this level will be swimming lengths, we are now honing in on the basic strokes already learnt and turning them into efficient strokes. Once this level is completed you will see a swimmer who can effortlessly swim 25m plus in all three competitive strokes and 25m butterfly leg kick with undulation. Water safety although taught in all levels is brought to the fore now with a focus on open water safety skills. Forward and backward rolls are a great fun element within this level, the beginnings of learning starts and turns. 3

5 Advanced Programme octopus TF4 Octopus Level - Swimmers must now perform all their strokes to the ASA Laws. Within this level swimmers will be taught to swim quickly, efficiently and effectively with these laws in mind. Mini polo skills, synchronised swimming skills and obstacle courses are all taught within this level. By the end of this level we will have a swimmer who s swimming will be not only confident enough but also strong enough to take part in many water based sports. You will see the difference in your child during this level as their water fitness really starts to improve. whale TF5 Whale level sees the introduction to competitive swimming. We begin to teach our swimmers about timed swims, the pace clock and how to efficiently link one stroke to another through use of turns at the pool wall. The skills we ask them to perform are increasingly difficult and stretch their swimming ability whilst at the same time further increasing their confidence and improving their performance. Fitness is an essential part of this level and swimmers will find their stamina tested, but will have a great sense of achievement after every lesson. killer whale TF6 Killer Whale - This is our last level, by the end of this level we will have a record of timed swims in all four strokes. Distance swims are done within this level as are, medley swims, swimming drills and swimming exercises. A swimmer who finishes the Total Fitness Swimming Academy will have a life skill that will enable them to take part in any water based activity, from swimming for fitness to swimming with dolphins, canoeing, white water rafting or snorkelling at the great barrier reef. All these things are possible with the skills and confidence they have gained. 4

6 frequently asked questions How many children are there in a swimming class? We endeavour to limit our class numbers to eight however as our scheme is progressive we will not hold a child back if it means adding an additional child or two to a class. All of our teachers are qualified to teach up to 16 children of mixed abilities. Do you provide badges and initiatives? All children who take part in the Total Fitness Swimming Academy are given a My Progress Card, this enables both the parent and the child to see what strokes/skills will be taught during a stage. Badges are awarded for completion of stages and distances swam. How do I re-enrol for the next course of lessons? Two weeks prior to the end of the term you will be sent an enrolment form for the following term. This means you are automatically given a placement for the next term as long as payment is received by the date given on the form (Pay by date). What happens if I forget to pay for my lessons by the pay by date? Once the pay by date passes we fill the available lesson places with swimmers on our waiting list. If you contact us as soon as you miss your payment, we will endeavour to place you in a suitable class, however we cannot guarantee your issued place will still be available. What are Family Fun pool sessions? These sessions are a great way for families to exercise together whilst having fun and practising all the skills they have learnt during their swimming lessons. We have family fun sessions taking place at all our pools. Kids and adults will love it! Can my child have a Pool Party? Once children are water confident and have a love for swimming they will always want to be in the pool. A pool party is an excellent way to celebrate a birthday or event with your family and friends. Pool parties can be booked by contacting your nearest club or collecting a party leaflet from the reception. Come along and enjoy the fun! Terms and Conditions Children must be linked to an Adult member. Children must be members. Children must be brought to and collected from lessons by an adult member/nominee. Lessons must be paid in full by the pay by date. All course fees are non-refundable in part or whole unless in receipt of a medical certificate. Any swimming lessons refunds will be subject to 15% admin charge. Swimming fees are non-refundable if membership lapses. By paying for your course fees you are agreeing to abide by the terms and conditions stated on this leaflet. 5
