Excessive use of chlorine compounds leads to other problems like high stabilizer, calcium scale, chlorine irritation and excessive chloramines. When added, this compound increases the calcium content of the pool, leading to problems with scale. These compounds also increase the pool s PH. High PH leads to algae and calcium scale. 12 Shock and Swim When to use: - After heavy pool swims. Why? Shock and Swim is a nonchlorine oxidizer. It is PHneutral, contains no calcium hardness, and also adds 1/3 lb. of borate! Contains no chlorine, so do not use this in situations where you need to kill off excess bacteria, algae, or viruses. After applying, you can reenter the pool in 15 minutes.
