Outdoor Slide Use: The outdoor slide may be used by those who are 48 or taller or have earned a black band. Further guidelines are posted next to the slide. Black Band Test: Any swimmer under age 14 must have a black band in order to swim in water deeper than five feet or use the outdoor slide if less than 48. Swim bands are worn around the swimmer s neck to indicate to aquatics staff that the swimmer in deep water is both competent and confident. To receive a black band, a swimmer must swim one pool length (25yds) either front crawl or breaststroke, face in without goggles, demonstrating rhythmic breathing, and then tread water for 30 seconds with ears out of the water. The swimmer must then climb out of the pool, jump in to water over his/her head, and surface. The first swim band is free. If a swimmer does not have his/her swim band, he/she may be reassessed and purchase a new band from the Welcome Center for a fee. If a swimmer wearing a black band does not exhibit black band swim abilities, the black band may be revoked or the swimmer may be asked to take a reassessment. Assessments are given during adult-only swim. Pool Closures: At ten minutes to the hour, an adult-only swim is called by the lifeguards in all pools to allow young swimmers to use the bathroom. Both Indoor and Outdoor pools will also be closed for fecal incidents, vomit, cloudy water, or thunder or lightning. Children requiring flotation: Any children requiring flotation must be within arms reach of an adult at all times while in any pool. Flotation is not recommended in either the Indoor Play Pool or Outdoor Baby Pool.
