5 MEET PROCEDURES IT IS IMPORTANT THAT ALL COACHES, MANAGERS, & SWIMMERS READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY. 1. OBTAIN A PROGRAM Check your name against events. 2. CLAIMING & MARSHALLING Claiming will be made TWO events before the event being swum. Claiming of events will be announced continuously. Competitors must then report to the Marshall and REMAIN IN THE MARSHALLING AREA until directed to report to the Check Starter. If competing in an event within the next three events, inform the Marshall, swim the event, then return to the marshalling area. Coaches and Parents are not permitted in the marshalling area. Rule (SW10.18) 3. WITHDRAWALS To withdraw from an event, please notify the Marshall. Competitors who fail to report to the Marshall by the specified time shall be deemed a withdrawal. WARM-UP INSTRUCTIONS In the interest of swimmer safety, the following procedures must be observed throughout the WARM-UP PERIOD. 1. All lanes, with the exception of 1 & 8 are NO DIVING lanes, with entry to the lane feet first, from a sitting position. Swimmers can only push start, and should observe a keep left rule at all times. 2. Lanes 1 & 8 (at the start end) are reserved throughout the whole of the warm-up period for dive sprints and walk backs. Swimmers must clear the lane immediately, and should use caution when doing a Backstroke start. 3. Lanes 2 to 7 are reserved throughout the whole of the warm-up period as circle swimming lanes TO AVOID ACCIDENTS PLEASE DO NOT RUN IN THE POOL AREA AND PARTICULARLY ON THE POOL DECK.

6 STARTING INSTRUCTIONS 1. The Check Starter will direct you to a position behind the on your nominated lane. 2. Report to the for your lane prior to the HEAT before yours. 3. Whilst swimmers from the previous heat are clearing the water, step forward to behind your lane s Starting Platform and await the Referee s signal. 4. When competitors have placed themselves behind their Starting Platform, the Starter will announce - for example Event No.5-50 metres Backstroke Heat On the long whistle blast from the Referee the swimmers shall step onto the Starting Platform and remain there, or for Backstroke swimming, immediately enter the water. A second long whistle blast shall bring the swimmers immediately to the starting position. 6. On the Starter s command Take your marks, competitors will immediately take up their starting positions with at least one foot at the front of the Starting Platform, and in the case of a Backstroke Event, their starting position in the water, and remain stationary. 7. When all the competitors are stationary, the Starter will give the starting signal. 8. Any swimmer starting before the starting signal has been given, shall be disqualified. If the starting signal sounds before the disqualification is declared, the race shall continue and the swimmer/s shall be disqualified on the completion of the race. 9. If the disqualification is declared before the starting signal, the signal shall not be given, but the remaining competitors shall be called back, be reminded by the Starter of the penalties, and start again. 10. Competitors must finish in the lane in which they started and will REMAIN IN THE WATER IN THEIR LANES AT THE FINISH OF THEIR RACE. On the signal from the Referee competitors are to leave the water VIA THE SIDE OF THE POOL. 11. In an Individual Medley event, the sequence of strokes is Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle. In a Medley Relay event, the sequence of strokes is Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, Freestyle. 12. When starting over the top is used, all competitors from the preceding heat are to move to the side of the lane, against the finishing wall, and remain still. When the next race is backstroke, the competitors from the preceding heat are to move down the lane rope towards the backstroke flags and remain still. When the next heat has started, they should leave the pool by the sides as quickly as possible TO AVOID ACCIDENTS PLEASE DO NOT RUN IN THE POOL AREA AND PARTICULARLY ON THE POOL DECK.
