2 Course Description: Racquetball is a basic course designed for the beginning & intermediate racquetball student. The fundamentals of the forehand, backhand, and various serves will be taught. The historical background as well as the rules of competition, safety, etiquette, care & selection of equipment & basic singles, doubles and cutthroat game strategy will be covered during this course. 3 Methods of Teaching and Learning: Explanation, discussion, demonstration, small group, feedback, correction Course Objectives and/or Competencies: A. Student will be introduced to the value, history, and rules of the game B. Student will be introduced to the proper racquetball dress & etiquette C. Student will have an opportunity to learn the proper care & selection of racquetball equipment D. Student will have an opportunity to learn the following racquetball skills: 1. Forehand (grip, body position, swing, contact, follow through, footwork, & control) 2. Backhand (grip, body position, swing, contact, follow through, & control 3. Serve (grip, stance, racquet swing, control & contact) E. Student should be able to demonstrate the above 1, 2, 3, & 4, correctly 70% of the time. F. Student should be able to analyze basic singles, doubles, & cutthroat game situations G. Student should be able to keep score in racquetball as demonstrated in a game situation & on a written exam H. Student should be able to correctly apply & explain the racquetball rules effectively in all basic playing situations both during play & on a written exam I. Student should be able to correctly identify & recognize court lines & various parts of the court on a written exam J. Student should be able to identify on a written exam & communicate using the common racquetball terminology Course Outline Schedule: Schedule is subject to change. Review for final exam F. Cutthroat tourney Written final exam as scheduled Course Grading Information: A. Skill test on the following tennis strokes: (Valued at 70%) 1. Forehand 2. Backhand 3. Serve B. Written final exam (valued at 30%) Late Work, Attendance, and Make Up Work Policies: Late or make up work will be considered on a case by case basis approved by the instructor Student Behavioral Expectation or Conduct Policy: Students are expected to maintain classroom decorum that includes respect for other students and the instructor, prompt and regular attendance, and an attitude that seeks to take full advantage of the education opportunity 5
