Middle Name or Initial: News Paper: NORTHFIELD NEWS NORTHFIELD, MINNESOTA Date: OCTOBER, 1927 John Evert Sr. Oct/1927 John Evert, Sr., who had been a resident of Rice county fifty-eight years, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, after an illness of nearly two years. He was born Sept. 18, 1838, at Mecklenburg, Germany. In 1864 he was married to Louise Seidler, and five years later they came to America and settled in Dundas, where they resided until 1874 when they bought a farm in Forest township Five children were born to this union. One son died at the age of thirteen years; another son, Charles, died five and one-half years ago. His wife died forty-eight years ago. Mr. Evert is survived by three children, Mrs. Henrietta Schulz of Forest, Mrs. Louise Siemers of Faribault, and John Evert, Jr., of Forest; fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral was held at the residence Friday, Oct. 7, Rev. Walter Merzdorf officiated. Interment took place at St. Johns Union cemetery. The following acted as pallbearers: Fred Prinzing, Jake Prinzing, Julius Wadekamper, Jos. Siemers, Herman Fischer and Ed. Meehl. Relatives from away who attended the funeral were: Miss Sophia Miller of Minneapolis, Mrs. Minnie Gebhardt, Harry Holt, Mrs. August Schultz and Christian Schultz of St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Schultz of Northfield.

Mr. and Mrs. John Evert emigrated from Germany during the period, to section 18, Forest Township. They lived as tenants until purchasing the quarter section on September Forty acres were sold to Peter Gustafson in1884. An interesting sidelight on this farm is that the first U.S. patent was granted to an Agnes Martin. The Evert family owned this farm until John Jr. s death in To this union were born: Henrietta (1864), Charles, Louise and John (1877). Following the birth of John, Mrs. Evert died from child-bed fever. Henrietta then assumed the task of caring for the younger children. This she did until marrying John Schulz of Watertown, WI. After a few years farming at Wells, MN, John and Yettie bought a farm in section 27, Forest Township. Their family included John, Louise (Schlemmer), Emma (Andersen), Frank, Martha (Hanna), Frances (LaPierre), Albert, Henry and Minnie (Petersmeyer). In May 1918, Charles Andersen, eldest son of Nels Peter, and Eugenia Rosselot Andersen, and Emma Schulz began farming on Grampa Andersen s farm on the north side of Fox Lake, sections 26 and 27, Forest Township, purchasing it in There were 3 daughters: Lorraine (Olson), Elinor (Meyer), and Marjorie (Moe). Fred Olson, son of Anton and Tomine Wasland Olson, and Lorraine Andersne were married on May 26, They have resided on the Olson home farm in section 8, Walcott,since that time. There are 6 children: Harvey (Minneapolis); Linda (Paul Jennings), Kristina and Karen Jennings of St. Louis Park; Alan (Faribault); Mark (Walcott); Wayne (Julie Diedrick), Walcott; Faith (Steve Lund) of Faribault. Steve and Faith have a daughter, Kari. Dairying has been a lifetime interest to Fred Olson beginning with producing grade A milk in1921; then to registered Holsteins in Son, Mark, is continuing this enterprise under the Olstar prefix on the home farm. Thus we trace 6 generations of one family s ties to Rice County, MN.
