1 Woodway Tennis News Dear Tennis Players, May 1, 2018 Spring is here and the tennis courts are now open. We have had excellent attendance at spring camps and inter club matches begin in about a week. Listed below are the events in May and early June with sign up information. The complete men s, women s and kids tennis programs can all be found at Woodway.org. I hope to see you out on the courts. Chuck Milot Director of Tennis Play in May Tennis Tournament and Gala Saturday May 5th Our first event of the season is The Play in May Tournament and Gala on Saturday May 5th. This tournament is played at 5 local clubs and the finals and lunch are at The Tokeneke Club. Events include Women s and Men s doubles in both A and B divisions. It's a super fun day of tennis followed by a Kentucky Derby themed Gala in the Woodway ballroom. Proceeds from the tournament go Norwalk Grassroots Tennis and Education. Sign up at

2 Senior Tennis Program at Woodway Beach Club with Rod Brent Attention senior players, Rod Brent, tennis professional and former Australian Open quarterfinalist will be running tennis clinics this spring at Woodway Beach Club. Rod lives in the area and specializes in clinics and lessons for senior players. Join Rod and his Assistant Frank Valente for clinics and round robins beginning in early May. Players interested can contact Rod at Davis Cup Team Tournament Memorial Day Monday May 28 th 9am-12pm On Monday Memorial Day join us at the tennis courts for a fun morning of team tennis competition. Four teams each with a mixture of men and women of all levels will be competing to be Davis Cup Champions. Team matches include men's doubles; women's doubles and mixed all in a fun format. Sign up limited to 20 women and 20 men. Tennis Pro Chuck Milot to sign up tennispro@woodway.org Ladies Member Guest Friday, June 1st 9-1pm Invite a friend for a fun day of tennis at Woodway. The ladies member guest will feature A and B flights with a round robin format so you can meet all players. Lunch will be served at the tennis courts. 3 Men s Interclub Tennis Woodway has three men s teams that compete in the Fairfield County Interclub league. With three teams there is a chance for all men to compete on a weekly basis. The teams practice Monday nights at 6pm and play matches Wednesday nights at 6pm. The first match is Wednesday May 9th. Men interested in joining one of these teams can contact Head Professional Chuck Milot at tennispro@woodway.org Women s Just for Fun Clinic Thursdays 9:30-11:00am On Thursday mornings from 9:30-11am beginning May 17 th the tennis staff will be offering a clinic for women looking for a low key, fun instructional tennis class. If you haven t played in a while or have had minimal exposure to tennis this is the place to start. This class is a great way to get back into tennis and meet new friends. 4 Point Play Clinic Fridays 10:30-12:00pm, Saturdays (mixed) 10:30-12:00pm and Sundays (mixed) 12:00-1:30pm On Friday mornings starting May 18 th the tennis staff will be running a Point Play clinic. This class is a combination of Cardio Tennis and Match Play. Like Cardio, it is fast-paced and a great workout. Like Match Play, you keep score and can advance to stronger courts depending on your results. Sign up one week in advance by tennispro@woodway.org or at the Tennis Pro Shop. Class fee: $40 Cardio Tennis On Friday mornings from 9:00-10:30am beginning May 18 th come out for a fun fast cardio workout on the tennis court set to music. Cardio tennis is an hour and a half of fast-paced drills designed to get your heart rate up and to improve your game all while listening to your favorite songs. Packed with fun drills and games, Cardio tennis is a calorie burning workout but way more fun than going for a run or riding a bike. Players of all levels are welcome to join. 5 Men s Saturday and Sunday Tennis Clinics On Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8-9:30am men of all levels can join the tennis staff for a fun, fast-paced instructional clinic. This clinic is a great way to get a good workout and improve your game. No need to sign up, just show up. Men s Saturday clinics begin the weekend of May 5th. Sunday clinic begins May 6 th. Fee: $38 per class. Twilight Tennis Friday, June 8 th 6:00pm Twilight Tennis is a fun evening of mixed doubles, drinks and dinner at the tennis courts. There s always a great group of people and a fun format. The first Twilight of the season is Friday June 8th. Sign up as a couple or as an individual. Chuck or stop by the tennis pro shop to sign up.
