Explanation of the Representatives ouncil - Steve provided explanation of the process - larification of coaches meeting at the championship - physical meeting is not necessarily needed, conference calls if needed can be organized - n explanation of the regions was also included 3. doption of minutes Henning/King-Taylor That the minutes of the October 3, 2005 meeting be adopted as presented arried 4. usiness rising from the minutes IS schools pairing up as a team - Potential powerhouse of mixed teams; however this is fine as long as they have satisfied all of the requirements of the constitution lothing regulations - ifferent interpretations have occurred with respect to clothing regulations - larification needs to be made at the association level - IF rule is that shorts should not come below the knee - ccording to the regulations, there are 4 different options that are being presented i. ssociation shirts ii. OFS souvenir shirts iii. Full white is always the option for the event iv. School uniform - Is school uniform the same as school colours? - The focus is more on the consistency of the uniform
- It is the responsibility of the association convenor to make sure that the rules regarding uniforms have been followed - oubles and mixed partners also must bring similar uniforms - Try to have information regarding the uniform on the website prior to the championship OFS Sponsorship (Yonex, lack Knight) - The bids were presented to the committee at the last meeting - The recommendation from the committee at the last meeting favoured the Yonex birds - The OFS executive looked at both bids and found that they were fairly similar in quality, 5. Report on 2006 adminton hampionship in Timmins - No report was provided at the current time - There are a few financial receivables that Frank is awaiting on - Etiquette of the banquet speakers was really bad - Not having assigned tables led to this behaviour - Many late arrivals - oaches and associations must have more control over the athletes at the banquet - No guest speaker which actually was positive - Hard to keep the cost of the banquet to $25 6. Update on 2007 hampionship Waterloo - ave Meijer provided a report that was circulated to the committee - Portable courts were asked of Yonex - Still in the preliminary stages on the organization of the event - Possibly have assigned seating and site with their association - Facilities booked - 1 st day 4 separate courts - U of Waterloo complex has 10 main courts, and 5 practice courts - Now 10 courts, in olumbia Ice Fields, 5 at P, 8 courts at Wilfrid Laurier (on first day) - U of Waterloo was not going to repaint badminton lines on the court due to refinishing - t olumbia Ice Fields, not very much lobby space - Not all the courts will be used, seating will be in place instead - There are a number of windows in the hallway that give views of courts - One locker for each participant in the change-rooms, YOL (bring your own lock) - Was negotiating FE hall at the University for the banquet, but committee was not comfortable working with them - Still working on the banquet, default is the cafeteria at ameron Heights cafeteria - Will look at the cafeteria benches as seating - Working on Robin Hermitage as guest speaker - Would there be 4 refs for all four areas? - There needs to be consistency for officials
- Players are the only participants to ask for a judge or official based on the circumstance - Perhaps an initial address to the student-athletes is needed to make sure that everyone understands - ill Mason, felt that training students to be scorekeepers rather than the training them as officials - You do however need a number of officials on the last day - Officials are not required until the player requests the official, - Even if a convenor imposes officials for matches, officials responsibilities are: keep the score; tell to players which lines he/she will call and which lines the players will call; make sure that play continues and adjudicating on the speed and non speed of shuttles - nything else, the participants must request judgement for example i. Official ii. Service judge iii. Line officials iv. Play v. Water on court - $20/athlete will be the cost of registration - Other committee members have taken all the other responsibilities - urrently a competition within the school is being held for the logo urrently working on souvenir apparel - Must continue to contact individuals for seeding purposes - Mavis 300 yellow will be used this year 7. Report from adminton Ontario - Roger Wallis provided a report that has been attached Scoring - Scoring has now changed to rally point - oncern that the rules will not stick as IF and adminton anada change frequently - oncern about changing regulations mid season - Need to get feedback from the school level prior to accepting - IF has changed regulation on continue play, dress code and serving larification on Serving - Serving now has to come back and go forward - Waist is now indicated by the elbow - Racquet must be below the waist defined by the elbow, now officials look at the elbow for guidelines - The shaft of the racquet must be below horizontal - If official is instructed to look at the flight of the bird, (larification: drive serve that arrives at the player above the waist, the racquet must have been travelling uphill) Protective Eyewear
- Whenever there are more than two players on the same court, whether in warm up or play, protective eyewear must be worn and must meat STMFEO3 approval. - there is a concern that if an accident happens at OFS, there may be a examination as to why O and adminton anada have regulations on eyewear and why OFS does not - The committee would like staff to open up the bid for eyewear to lack Knight and Leader - Gord Kerry: Leader Kathy Lamb: lack Knight - ill Mason is available to be referee - O would like a booth if possible 8. orrespondence - None received 9. Review of Playing Regulations NOTIE OF MOTION FOR JUNE 2007 Meijer/Vandergheynst IRT OFS adminton scoring will be aligned to the IF/adminton anada regulations by the 2007/2008 year provided that IF/adminton anada stay with their regulation. RRIE Meijer/King-Taylor IRT effective immediately, that the following paragraph be added to the end of Section 17: t OFS championships where medical personnel are available, only the referee, official and the medical personnel shall attend to on-court injured student-athlete during match play. No other parties shall attend to the student-athlete or they will otherwise risk default of match. RRIE Hennig/Whitney IRT effective immediately, the second paragraph of Section 11 be changed to read: ll competitors participating in OFS championships must wear whenever they are on the court. Protective eyewear must meet STMFEO3 approval. RRIE 10. Other usiness Penalty for violation of the OFS Uniform Policy - Regional fine of $10 to OFS convenor in order to continue in the championship - Forfeit is strong
- If this occurs If they do not pay their fine, they are not permitted to get their medal Play ates (for discussion) - Generous if they are not more they do not count regional play-downs or OFS championships - re they looking at coaches or students - Hastings county are looking to have team pay for the teacher coverage - Some associations have regional, zone events that would already max out at 6 in league play alone - The committee feels that 8 would be sufficient and fair Shuttlecock (Mavis 350) - urability of the bird has been touted as a benefit - In Timmins the majority of the people were in favour of moving to 350 possibly in 2007/2008 school year after further input from association convenors is a bit more expensive, but lasts twice as long - Eyewear Timing of hampionships - Why are we so late in the championships - We are interfering with Spring sports - TSS look at in from the other end because of lack of gym time - Many religious holidays in pril - ommittee does not think that it could go later - We are all protecting their own areas - Replacement of hair - lyde explained his roles as S chair - reating uneven playing field for high school trained and club trained - We have a partial playing field with the flight system - o we need to re-examine the system - Perhaps when we go to rally point, we would have a flight WhitneyVandergheynst That the meeting be adjourned arried djournment 3:15pm Steve Sevor: Recording Secretary
