2 ONE MAN S OPINION Thirty-two years ago, the Spearman family purchased the assets and liabilities of LNRC. The purchase took place during the middle of the club s annual Calcutta. That Calcutta was nothing compared to the event that just concluded at the end of April. The winning team was the Broncos; second place was the Patriots. Everyone had a wonderful time and without exception this event was the best ever Calcutta. Congratulations to Mark, Anne, Sandy, Rachel, Tammy, Ronnie and Vannessa and all of the members that participated in this event, in spite of the renovations going on in the lobby. Several of you have questioned why I wasn t in attendance as much as usual this year. Briefly, I have defective eyes that have required several surgeries that have rendered my vision to be legally blind. Until I recover from the most recent surgery, the doctor tells me I will have limited vision for 4-6 weeks. As an optimist, I will plan to be walking around the club, smiling at everyone within three weeks. In the meantime, if I fail to recognize you, please understand it is simply that I can t see you. However, I am confident that my vision will be sufficient for normal activities in early June. I am very proud of the wonderful members that make up LNRC-TCMB. Because of the admiration for the loyal members, I am continuing to invest in renovations, decorations and landscape that make the club members feel appreciated. My wife Jean is supervising the renovation with great help from Mark, Sandy and the staff. I appreciate everyone bearing with us as we attempt to provide normal club service during renovations. Justin/Cathy Bass and Joe Poshek had the craziest get-ups. Brian Manning/ Cierra Gayton won the Pro line with Rob Horsch/Faye Sargent coming in a close second. And a great time was had by all!!!!! 3 We are heading into the home stretch until summer hits all of us. Let s make sure we have plans for the kids and the family. The Summer Camp is a great option for all levels of play for the kids and we have a lot of new plans for the kids and the instructors training has been in the works. I want to give a big shout to Ronnie who took care of the Calcutta while I was gone. I prepared the event and left Ronnie, Anne and Van to help make sure the players were taken care of. I heard it was one of the best and the tennis was outstanding on all levels. The PRO line was awesome and it started out with our own PRO Tim Fresenius getting the event started with bidding on the pros. With $1,400 on the line, the event was fierce on court and I heard was outstanding. Congrats to Brian Manning and CIerra Gayton, as they won the top money with a tiebreaker over Rob Horsch and Faye Devera. I look forward to next year already with more bidding and more surprises for another must play event. Thanks to Rachel and Tammy, as well as not only playing, but their help was awesome. We have lots of new things going on at the club and the new floor is such an upgrade and much needed for the facility. Ronnie and Rachel have been putting together a singles ladder and other tennis activities that you need to be getting into. We also have Jr. USTA teams and adults going full force right now. If you re looking to play the leagues during the week or weekend, please let me know so I can everyone playing and being competitive. See you on the courts. MONARCH JUNIOR TENNIS ACADEMY -- The MJTA offers a complete & challenging junior tennis training program. We follow an organized player pathway to ensure success in the game for anyone. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of players at every level: from young players just beginning tennis to Sectional ranked players seeking improved tournament results. 5 Joanna is a NASM certified personal trainer. She grew up in Laguna Niguel and has been a longtime member of Laguna Niguel Racquet Club. She played four years on a full tennis scholarship at Arizona State University, while completing her Bachelor s degree in Psychology and a Master s degree in Sports Law and Business. With her tennis background and knowledge of how the body moves on the court, she focuses on tennis specific exercises to simulate those movements. Her passion of health and fitness goes beyond the tennis court. She loves doing bootcamp, enjoys lifting weights, and takes pride in maintaining a very wellbalanced diet that helps her stay energized throughout the day. Her newfound love is competing in Spartan races. We offer the following EVENING CLASSES at LNRC! FastTrack Group LTS- Starting at Laguna Niguel Racquet Club on June 6th for Levels 1-6. The FastTrack program is designed for rapid and accelerated learning and development, with classes running Monday through Thursday (Tuesday through Friday for some facilities) for 2 weeks at a time. (8 lessons). The 2016 FastTrack has been redesigned and re-developed to incorportate the latest information in child development and learning.
