1 LIFETIME SPORTS REVIEW: RACQUETBALL: Singles- Played with two people Doubles- Played with four people Cutthroat - Played with three people Grip the racquet like you are shaking hands with it. For safety reasons, it is advisable to not turn around when the ball goes behind you. Serving The side first scoring 21 points wins the game. The server may not initiate the serve form outside the service zone. Only the serving side scores points, when it serves an ace or wins a rally. The ball must bounce on the floor in the service area and on the first bounce be struck by the server s racquet. The ball must strike the front wall first and on the rebound hit the floor behind the short line, either with or without bouncing on one of the sidewalls. Any served ball that strikes the server s partner, the ceiling, floor, or side wall before striking the front wall results in a side out. In doubles, the same player will serve until a side out occurs. A slam serve is hit low and hard on the front wall. A lob serve is a serve hit high on the front wall. A serve may be returned either on the fly or after the first bounce and before and the ball touches the floor the second time. If an opponent gets in your way when you are trying to hit the ball it is called a hindrance. TENNIS The singles game is played withtin a smaller playing area than doubles tennis. Scoring 0 points = Love Point 4 points = Game 1 point = 15 Game 6 games = Set 2 points = 30 Set 2 out of 3 sets = Match (females) 3 points = 40 Match 3 out of 5 sets = Match (males) 4 points = Game

2 Deuce- the score when each player has won three points 40-40, 40-all. Game- a game ends when one team has won four points and wins by two points. Players change sides of the net after all even numbered games. Serving When serving, stand behind the baseline, between the center mark and the right singles sideline. You must hit the serve over the net and in the service court that is diagonally opposite. If the ball fails to land within the service boundaries, it is a fault and the server has a second chance to serve. When returning the serve, the ball must bounce once before it is hit. Balls that hit the lines are considered good. Returns The exchange of shots after the serve is called a rally. You must hit the ball after it crosses the net and before it bounces twice. A return is good if it bounces within the court after crossing the net. BADMINTON: Scoring System A match consists of the best of 3 games of 21 points. Every time there is a serve there is a point scored. The side winning a rally adds a point to its score. At 20 all, the side which gains a 2 point lead first, wins that game. At 29 all, the side scoring the 30 th point, wins that game. The side winning a game serves first in the next. Doubles A side has only one service. The service passes consecutively to the players as shown in the diagram. At the beginning of the game and when the score is even, the server serves from the right service court. When it is odd, the server serves from the left court. If the serving side wins a rally, the serving side scores appoint and the same server serves again from the alternative service court. If the receiving side wins a rally, the receiving side scores a point. The receiving side becomes the new serving side. The players do not change their respective service courts until they win a point when their side is serving. The winner of a game serves first on the next game.

3 FLAG FOOTBALL: Play begins on the 20 yard marker- large cone. The offense has 5 downs to score a touchdown. The quarterback may run 1 play each series, defense gets 1 blitz each series. The defense may rush after 5 seconds. No fumbles VOLLEYBALL Philosophy: The philosophy behind the use of rally scoring has several aspects. It is designed to make the game of volleyball fan friendly by encouraging constant action and increasing the number of critical plays. The Game 1. The home team selects home court, the winner of the toss may elect to serve or receive. 2. In Rally scoring, a point is awarded upon the completion of every play. 3. The net serve shall be incorporated. a. If the ball is served, makes contact with the net, and lands on the serving team s side, the receiving team receives a point and the serve. b. If the ball is served, makes contact with the net, and lands on the receiving team s side, the ball is in play. 4. You must serve behind the line anywhere within the sidelines. 5. A block does not count as a hit. The ball is considered live for both teams when it is in the vertical plane of the net. 6. You can t block or spike the serve. 7. Stay out of the net, if you touch the net, play must stop. 8. You cannot lift, throw, or carry the ball. 9. You cannot receive the serve with your hands if they are apart. What is the let serve?... The let serve is a ball that when served hits the net without touching the net antenna and continues across the net into the opponents court. The let serve is a playable live play. Scoring a. All matches shall be best of two out three games. b. Games shall be played 25 points. c. A team, which has scored 25 points and has at least a two point advantage, is the winner. d. The third and deciding game shall be played to 15 points, and the winning team must win by two points.

4 PICKLE BALL The Game- Pickle ball may be played with two singles or four doubles players on a tennis or badminton court or a flat blacktop area. The three foot net divides the court. The players hit the plastic ball with wooden paddles. The object of the game is to score points. Scoring- The person or team must be serving to score. A game is 11 points and must be won with a two point lead. Serve a. One foot is behind the back line. b. The serve is underhand. c. Paddle swings below the waist. d. There is no bounce. e. Serve diagonally across the court. f. Must clear the won-valley area. g. Serve must be good, no second try. h. Let balls, reserved. Volley- Hitting the ball before a bounce. All volleys must be hit with the feet behind the non-volley line. Double Bounce- Each team must play their first shot off the bounce. Both the receiving team and serving team must be let it bounce. Faults a. Hitting the ball out of bounds b. Not clearing the net c. Stepping into the non-volley area and volleying the ball d. Hitting the first ball on the volley e. Letting the ball bounce twice on your side of the net Doubles Play a. Right hand court player serves first b. Play continues until a fault or point is served c. When a point is won, the serving team switch courts and the same player serves the next point. d. When the second fault occurs they lose the service and the opponents have their turn at service. e.
