2 Welcome On behalf of the United States Tennis Association (USTA), it is a privilege and honor to welcome you to the 2007 Jr. Team Tennis National Championships. These events feature the very best elements of tennis: spirited competition, friendship, achievement, sportsmanship, fun and provide the players with what may be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Marking the culmination of a year-long series of competitions at the local, state/district and section levels, the National Championships serve as the crown jewel of USTA Jr. Team Tennis. They showcase the nation's top teams competing for the right to call themselves national champions in the 14 & Under and the 18 & Under categories, in both the Intermediate and Advanced Divisions. Without the support, commitment and enthusiasm of all 17 USTA Section Coordinators and countless district/state and local providers, these national championships would not exist. Special thanks go to the people who work behind the scenes to make these events memorable for the players: the tournament and facility staff, sponsors, volunteers and of course the dedicated family members and friends offering support and encouragement to the players. Quick Facts USTA Jr. Team Tennis is a program of team practices and match play for girls and boys, ages 6 to 18, who want to play tennis on a team. It accommodates all skill levels. USTA Jr. Team Tennis can be played anywhere, i.e. parks, schools, commercial clubs, etc., and can be administered by an individual in a local community. Teams are organized using the National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) to match players of similar ability. They compete against teams from the same geographic region in one of five age divisions: 8 & Under, 10 & Under, 12 & Under, 14 & Under, and 18 & Under. The team concept emphasizes fun, fitness and friends. The focus is on enjoying the exhilaration of exercise and refining skills that make tennis fun for all ages and all skill levels. Fun Facts on Bob & Mike Mike is two minutes older than his twin brother, Bob. Both of their parents, Wayne and Kathy, teach tennis and began teaching their sons at age two. Wayne is a lawyer, musician and tennis instructor who is involved in various ATP Kids' Days and Clinics on tour. Kathy (formerly Blake) is a former player on the professional women's circuit and played at Wimbledon four times, reaching the mixed doubles quarterfinal in During their days as junior players, Mike and Bob were forbidden to play each other in a tournament. If they were scheduled to play each other, they would take turns defaulting the match. Off the court, Mike and Bob enjoy playing basketball and music. They have their own band called the Bryan Bros. Band which consists of Mike on the drums (and occasionally guitar), Bob on the keyboards, and their father on the guitar.
