5 MORELL S CAREER DAY Madison Morell had a career-day in Nevada s 3-2 upset of No. 25 Wyoming on Oct. 3 after setting a new career-high with 31 kills, including five in the match clinching fifth set Her 31 kills was just one shy of tying the program record of 32 set by Lauren Netherby in 1998 The Plano, Tex., native is the first player in the Mountain West this season to register 30+ kills and is also tied for ninth in the nation for most kills in a five-set match this season ANDERSON SETS CAREER-BEST Junior setter Lyndsey Anderson was re-inserted in the starting lineup against No. 25 Wyoming and did not disappoint as she posted a career-high 57 assists in the 3-2 upset of the Cowgirls Anderson s previous high was 49 which was done at Air Force on Oct. 25, 2014 The Sparks native is on pace to enter the top 10 in program in assists as she currently has 1,396 career assists WILLOUGHBY ENTERS TOP-10 IN BLOCKS After posting six blocks against No. 20 Colorado State and No. 25 Wyoming, senior Sam Willoughby entered the top 10 in program history in that category with 244 career total blocks The Jamul, Calif., native sits in sole possession of eighth on the list GROENWEGHE SETS CAREER-HIGHS IN WOLF PACK CLASSIC Junior Kathryn Groenweghe was arguable the top peformer for Nevada at the Wolf Pack Classic. She posted 12 kills and hit at a.455 clip, both career and match-highs, in Nevada s 3-2 win over Weber State on Sept. 11. Hit over.400 and matched her career-high again in the Pack s win over Miami (OH) where she registered a.455 hitting percentage to go along with three blocks. Racked up a team-high six-blocks in a sweep of Montana State and helped the Pack out-block its opponents in every match over the three-matches. FOLEY TWICE BREAKS HER CAREER-HIGH Sophomore Madison Foley continued her strong play in the Portland Classic where she registered 48 kills, 45 digs and four service aces. The Dayton native tallied two double-doubles, in the loss to host Portland and in the five-set victory over UC Riverside. In the win over the Highlanders, Foley went on a tear and set career-high in kills with 23 and digs with 23, while also going 7-for-9 win the third set. NELSON TALLIES FIRST HEAD COACHING VICTORY The Wolf Pack went 1-2 last weekend at the Molten Classic which included a convincing 3-0 sweep over Eastern Washington for its first win of the season. The win also marked the first head coaching victory for Lee Nelson, who comes to Reno after spending the last three seasons at Miami where he helped take the Hurricanes to three-straight NCAA Tournaments. Sophomore outside hitter Madison Foley was a top performer for the Pack last weekend at the Molten Classic where she compiled 29 kills, 23 digs and four service aces over three matches. Defending MW champion Colorado State received seven of the 10 first place votes while UNLV claimed two and Boise State and Wyoming each picked up one vote a piece. San Jose State was predicted to finish 11th in the poll. WELCOME LEE NELSON After a three-year run as the top assistant with the Hurricanes women s volleyball program that included threestraight appearances to the NCAA Tournament, head coach Lee Nelson enters his first season leading the Wolf Pack Prior to joining the Miami coaching staff in 2012, Nelson was the associate head coach of the men s program at UCSB for four years, which included an appearance in the NCAA Championship match in That was his second stint with the men s program at UCSB, having worked there from Nelson previously served as an assistant coach for the Wolf Pack in 1999 where he earned his master s degree and coached a number of all-conference selections including Kelli LaBossiere and Nevada Hall of Famers Suzanne Stonebarger and Michelle More.
