(0S) This is a warm-up drill to begin a practice. The goal is to get 0 sets across the net in a row, followed by 0 down balls in a row across, followed by 0 back row attacks in a row. Groups of 4 to 6 players. Divide equally directly across the net from each other, /3 per side across from each other. Begin with a toss over the net to other group. Set the ball to partner at the net, they set back to partner and then set the ball over. That side then rotates, passer to setter and setter to passer, on their side. Other side repeats same pattern until 0 sets over collectively is achieved. Next is 0 down balls in a row. Pass, set, standing down ball. Next is 0 backrow attacks. Pass, set, jump and swing. Often modified to not be in a row, but must have two contacts on other side to count towards the 0. The goal is to complete all sets of 0 in under 0 minutes. During the 0 sets, below the height of the antenna and not directly set or hit to other group when sending a ball over, hit slightly off to their sides. Focus on proper footwork and technique, even though the drill is very basic. Stress importance of control and not power. 3 4

. LANES NARROW Level: Intermediate This is a drill that is part conditioning and part focused on angles of passing. Team should split into groups of three. Two players should be split about 0 apart on the sideline with one ball each. Third player should be in the center of the court shuffling back and forth in a parallel pattern. First progression should be passes straight forward from tossers. The goal is to get the maximum number of quality passes in a 45 second window. Rotate around so each player passes. Player with highest number wins, others have to do sidelines. Next progression is with one ball and passers should pass an angle ball to the opposite target. Staying low and head up. Using legs to pass ball and not swinging. Progression Progression

3. ACE REPLACE This drill is focused on tough serves, with passers getting extra reps. There should be three passers, one target, and the rest serving. If a server gets an ace they go become a passer. If the server gets passed well they stay, go to the end of the line and serve again. A miss serve is a wash. Agressive serving and taking risks with the serve. No penalty for missed serves.

4. PASSERS VS. SERVERS This drill focuses on generating pressure moments for both servers and passers. Being able to generate a tough serve or dime pass when the stakes are higher helps build that competitive edge. Three/four passers and target on one side and the rest are servers. The goal is 5, or 3 ball passes before the servers get 0 ace serves. An ace is a shanked ball or a ball without a second touch. Anyone can make the second touch. Ace serve with no effort by a passer is automatic loss. Two missed serves in a row is a point for the passers. Passing in crunch moments. Consistent serving but tough.

5. TURN REACT Level: Intermediate This drill focuses on building reactionary timing to a fast driven ball. Players should make a single file line. The first player up stands facing the line and on a coach slap of the ball spins and digs down ball. The coach should hit a downball at the player. After digging shag if necessary and go to the end of the line. Variations Tip ball short. Angles with driven ball. High ball to dig with hands. Should hop on the turn, not step multiple times to turn around. Land on toes when turning. Hands open before digging the ball.

6. BLOCK FOOTWORK TO HIT This drill is to work on the footwork for blocking and transitioning off the net quickly to attack. A player goes one at a time by starting at the middle of the net and blocking to the pin. After the player blocks, they should drop off, transition out to the 0 line and hit the coaches toss. Coaches should go over proper blocking footwork for everyone before beginning. Work both sides of pin blocking. If running the drill on both sides of the net, players should hit down the line. Proper footwork on blocking, not drifting, big first step to transition. Pressing over the net. Transitioning out of the court lines and not looking or turning away from the court. 4 3

7. DIG RACE Level: Intermediate This is a drill to maximize reps for digging cross court and line shots on an open net. Coaches should be on boxes hitting cross court downballs at players in left back. Players dig to target, they become target, and target joins end of line on their side. Losing team runs difference of lines. After cross court hits, then hit down the line in a race to digs. Drop step footwork, along with angling body to target.

8. TURN & BURN The goal is about correct communication and actually listening when a player shouts mine or got it. Coach tosses ball over with two players stacking at the net. Their goal is to get three contacts and get ball back over. This ball should be tossed in the court. Giving way to the player when they call it mine.

9. DOG HOUSE This drill is a flipped version of queen/king of the court. Setup 4s on each side with one side serving. The goal is to stay off the receiving side. Points are scored as individuals when you win on the serving side. There should be lines for serving, middle back, left back, and setting. Goal is to score 5 points as an individual. Communication is loud as there are fewer players to help cover. Point Side Dog House
