The sweep was the first BU win over TCU for head coach Ryan McGuyre. The 3-0 win was also the first sweep over TCU since Nov. 14, Katie Staiger tallied at least 23 kills in a three-set match for the second time this season. Highlights in 3-1 loss at No. 8 Kansas (Oct. 1) Camryn Freiberg had the most effective attacking effort of her BU career, notching a career-high 14 kills with a.542 attacking mark. Nicole Thomas dropped in a career-high six kills on just 10 swings, good for a.400 hitting rate for BU. Tara Wulf recorded 13 digs, a season-high for the freshman defensive specialist. The loss snapped a 10-match winning streak, a program best since the 2009 season. Highlights in 3-0 win over Texas Tech (Sept. 28) Katie Staiger led the Bears with her 8th double-double and second-straight of the season, adding 19 kills and 10 digs. Baylor has now won 10 matches in a row, dating back to Sept. 9. This is the first 10-match winning streak since 2009 (Aug. 28 to Sept. 12). McGuyre brough a wealth of coaching experience, including two seasons as Florida State s associate head coach. After two seasons at Florida State and more than a decade of coaching on the west coast, McGuyre carries pipelines from both the west and east coasts to central Texas. In 2015, McGuyre saw immediate improvements in his first season at the helm of the program, finishing overall to give Baylor its first winning season in three years. An initial focus on protecting the home court at the Ferrell Center paid off, with the Bears notching 10 wins at home, the most in the previous nine years. Narrowly missing a postseason birth, the Bears peaked at a program-record No. 30 ranking in the NCAA RPI, finishing the season as one of the first four left out of the bracket. Senior outside hitter Andie Malloy capped off a successful career at Baylor, earning All-Big 12 First Team honors for the second straight season. A hopeful sign of things to come in the McGuyre era, freshman Shelly Fanning iced a remarkable first season for the Bears, earning All-Big 12 Second Team and a spot on the Big 12 All-Freshman Team. McGuyre has coached at the collegiate level for both men and women since 1999 including head-coaching stints at California Baptist (CBU) and Biola University, both of which are faith-based institutions. McGuyre and the Florida State Seminoles finished a 2014 NCAA Tournament run reaching the Sweet 16 before a loss to national runner-up BYU, Dec. 13. The Seminoles finished 30-3 in 2014, and in his first season at Florida State in 2013, the Seminoles posted a 26-8 record and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16. Prior to his arrival at Florida State, McGuyre was an assistant at Maryland for one season following a 10-year head coaching stint at CBU from There, he was the head coach for both the men s and women s programs, and he crafted a men s program that won six NAIA national championships (2004, 05, 06, 07, 10, 11) and three women s national titles (2004, 05, 11). The outside hitter from Plano, Texas, earned her third offensive POTW award from the conference this year, matching Anna Breyfogle (3, 2007) for the BU record for single-season weekly honors. Team receives votes in AVCA Coaches Poll Baylor volleyball (15-5, 3-1 Big 12) earned five votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I Coaches Poll, released Monday afternoon by the AVCA. This is the third-straight week that the Bears have earned votes. BU has logged two wins over current or former top-25 teams in the last four weeks, downing then-no. 23 Kansas State in straight sets on Sept. 25 and upsetting now-no. 13 Washington State on Sep. 17 in four sets.
