Overall Villanova Connecticut Louisville Syracuse Providence Rutgers UCONN TO FACE BOSTON COLLEGE IN NCAA FIRST ROUND: The Huskies will open NCAA Tournament play on Saturday afternoon when they face Boston College beginning at 2:00 p.m. (ET) on the campus of Princeton University. UConn is entering NCAA play with a 16-5 overall mark and 4-1 in conference action. Saturday s other first round game at Princeton pits No. 3 seed Duke (15-4) vs. host institution Princeton (9-8). Saturday s winners will meet Sunday in the NCAA quarterfinals at Princeton. Sunday s gametime is slated for 2:00 p.m. (ET). HUSKIES IN NCAA PLAY: UConn is making its 17th NCAA Tournament appearance and owns a mark all-time in NCAA postseason action. The Huskies have advanced to the NCAA semifinals seven times and have won a pair of national titles (1981, 1985). HUSKIES IN THE FIRST ROUND: UConn owns an all-time record of 11-5 in NCAA first round games. The Huskies have yet to face Boston College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Their only past Tournament meeting was in the 1998 quarterfinals when Connecticut came out on top 3-0. UCONN CAPTURES BIG EAST TOURNEY TITLE: Connecticut defeated Villanova 3-2, in overtime, in the 2005 BIG EAST Championship Game last Sunday at Rutgers. The title marks the Huskies second in a row and is the eighth in the program s history. UConn boasts an all-time mark of 21-8 in BIG EAST Tournament games, the best of all conference institutions. HOFFMAN NAMED MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER OF CHAMPIONSHIP: UConn junior Meagan Hoffman was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2005 BIG EAST Championship. Hoffman is the ninth player from UConn to be recognized with this award. VS. BOSTON COLLEGE: The Huskies lead the all-time series with the Eagles The teams first met in In the regular season, Boston College defeated Connecticut 1-0. This will mark the second time Connecticut has faced Boston College in the NCAA Tournament. Saturday s contest will be the first-ever match up between the Huskies and Eagles in the first round of the Tournament. UConn defeated Boston College in the 1998 quarterfinals 3-0. VS. DUKE: The Blue Devils lead the all-time series with the Huskies 1-0. Their only meeting was during the 1992 season. Connecticut and Duke have yet to meet in the NCAA Tournament. VS. PRINCETON: The Huskies narrowly edge out the Tigers to lead the all-time series 6-5. During the regular season, UConn traveled to Princeton and handed the Tigers a 4-2 loss. The last meeting between Connecticut and Princeton in the NCAA Tournament was in the 1998 semifinals where the Huskies fell to the Tigers 1-4. The Huskies have only lost one game this year by more than a one-goal margin (3-1 at Penn State on Sept. 4). I WANT MORE PLAYING TIME: Five of Connecticut s games this season have been decided in overtime or in penalty strokes including both matches in the BIG EAST Tournament. The Huskies were successful in all but one of these contests. SHE SHOOTS, SHE SCORES: Connecticut dominated its opponents this season in the offensive categories. The Huskies outshot their opponents and scored 63 goals to their opponents 29. In addition, UConn earned 190 penalty corners to the opposition s 88. Senior Laura Puddle was a first team All- BIG EAST choice and ranks tied for fourth nationally with 15 assists. HUSKIES WELL REPRESENTED AT BIG EAST AWARDS BANQUET: Six members of the University of Connecticut field hockey team were recognized at the 2005 BIG EAST Field Hockey Awards Banquet. Senior forward Laura Puddle and freshman back Jennifer Kleinhans were both named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. This is Puddle s second consecutive season being selected for first team honors. Senior goalkeeper Melissa Bostwick, senior midfielder Rebecca Helwig, junior forward Kristin Galuski and sophomore forward Lizzy Peijs were added to the All-BIG EAST second team.
