2 The 10 th Annual Communities In Schools Peace.Love.Mud Volleyball Tournament will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 2614 FM 1585 (130 th and University) in Lubbock, Texas. The purpose of the Peace.Love.Mud Volleyball Tournament (MVB) is to have some muddy fun in the sun while raising funds used to combat student dropout rates. In order to guarantee the success of this very important fundraiser, we are seeking community partners to sponsor the event, ensuring that all funds raised go directly to provide assistance to at-risk students in our community. The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. The objective is to prevent kids from dropping out of school by giving them the tools they need to be successful. These tools include evidence-based programs and services that address the academic, nonacademic, cognitive, and social and emotional factors that directly impact students ability to persist and be successful not only in school but throughout their lives. The difference Communities In Schools of the South Plains services make in the lives of students and families is well-documented and plays out in 16 districts and on 56 campuses in the Lubbock Independent School District (LISD), the greater Lubbock area (Frenship, Lubbock-Cooper, Slaton, Shallowater ISD), and throughout the South Plains (including districts as far away as Amarillo, Brownfield, Dimmitt, and Plainview). 11 MUD VOLLEYBALL RULES What time does the event start? The first game starts at 9:00 am We suggest you arrive two hours early to set up space How does the scoring work? The first team to 25 wins, no win by two Every serve counts as a point How do the teams need to be comprised of during a match? There must be 8 players on the court at all times (4 male / 4 female) During the game, teams must rotate players males for males and females for females. After the serve, players can change positions Can only use substitute for server Do teams change sides of court once game starts? Yes, once the two scores equal 25, the teams change sides How do we know if a ball is in or out? If there is a splash of any amount of water the ball is in Any rules on serving? Must rotate male / female in serving Same person continues serving until team loses point Underhand serve only If the serve hits net and goes over, it is in play Can we spike? Good luck, best advice to just get the ball back over the net, If you can spike the ball then go for it What if someone hits the net with hand or body? As long as the hit is unintentional, there is no penalty for hitting the net How does the tournament work who advances to the finals? 15 ADMISSION The event location is at 2614 FM 1585 (130 th and University). Each player must wear their event issued wristband in order to enter the event area. Each team will be issued eight (8) event wristbands - one for each player on the team. Any individual not associated with the event (spectators, etc...) must pay an entry fee of $5.00. EVENT PARKING Teams are strongly encouraged to carpool to the event in order to minimize traffic and ensure a safe and efficient parking experience for everyone. CONCESSIONS There will be many food trucks to choose from.
