The Hawkeyes last defeated the Buckeyes on Oct. 26, 2008 in four sets (25-23, 19-25, 25-15, 25-22). Iowa played Ohio State on Oct. 3 this season, falling to the Buckeyes in straight sets (25-19, 25-17, 25-22). Northwestern leads Iowa, , all-time. The Hawkeyes last defeated the Wildcats on Oct. 18, 2014 in five sets (20-25, 25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 15-12). It was the first win for the program over Northwestern since Oct. 23, 2009, when Iowa swept the Wildcats (25-23, 27-25, 25-21) in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. CAREER CLIMB Senior Alessandra Dietz is currently first all-time at Iowa with a.277 career attack percentage, 14th all-time with 263 career blocks, and three service aces (77) from entering Iowa s career top 20 list (80). COMING ON STRONG Freshman Taylin Alm has emerged as an offensive weapon for the Hawkeyes late in the Big Ten season. The 6 5 right side hitter has recorded double digit kill totals in three of the team s last five matches. Her hot streak began at Rutgers, when she reached double digits for the first time and earned a career high with 11 kills. She followed it up with a 10-kill performance against Indiana. Most recently, Alm posted 10 kills against No. 4 Wisconsin. In the five game stretch, Alm owns a.368 attack percentage and a 2.32 kill per set average with 44 total kills. B1G WINS The Hawkeyes have five victories in Big Ten action with four conference matches remaining in the regular season. That is the most for the program since 2009, when Iowa posted a 5-15 record. Iowa recorded its first win at home against Northwestern on Oct. 18, outlasting the Wildcats in five sets. It was the first win for the program over Northwestern since Oct. 23, 2009, when Iowa swept the Wildcats in Carver- Hawkeye Arena. The Hawkeyes collected four Big Ten wins in a row -- the longest conference win streak since 1994 when the team recorded eight consecutive victories and went on to clinch a berth to the NCAA Tournament with a sweep of Maryland, a four set win over Rutgers, a five set victory against Indiana and a four set win over No. 12 Purdue. The victory against Purdue was the first ranked win for the program since CONFERENCE RANKINGS Iowa is tied for 12th in the Big Ten standings along with Northwestern. Both teams are 5-11 in conference action. Senior Alessandra Dietz is seventh in the conference in service aces per set (0.27) and eighth in hitting percentage (.354). Junior Mikaela Gunderson is 13th in blocks per set (1.05). Sophomore Alyssa Klostermann ranks eighth in service aces per set (0.27) and 15th in assists per set (5.33). Freshman Michelle Fugarino is seventh in the conference and second among freshmen in digs per set (3.90). Freshman Taylin Alm ranks 15th in the Big Ten and fifth among freshmen with a.299 hitting percentage. Freshman Kaylee Smith is 14th in assists per set (5.80). UP NEXT Iowa ends its regular season with a home stand in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes take on Maryland on Nov. 26 at 4 p.m., and conclude their season against Michigan State on Nov. 28 at 7:30 p.m. SUCCESS IN 4 OR MORE In matches lasting more than three sets, the Hawkeyes like their chances of securing a win. Iowa volleyball is 7-1 on the season in matches lasting four or five sets. The squad is undefeated in four-set contests (5-0) this season, with victories over UT-San Antonio, Idaho State, Florida International, Rutgers and Purdue. Iowa is 2-1 in five-set competitions, with wins over Northwestern and Indiana. The lone loss in four or more sets came against Illinois (3-2). 300 WINS CLUB First-year head coach Bond Shymansky earned his 300th career victory when the Hawkeyes completed their 3-0 sweep at Maryland on Oct. 31, and added to his win total the next night when the team defeated Rutgers, 3-1, on Nov. 1. Shymansky has earned 13 of his 303 career victories at Iowa, 117 in five seasons at Marquette and 173 in seven seasons at Georgia Tech. He currently owns a record and a.711 win percentage in 13 seasons as a head coach.

3 HEAD COACH BOND SHYMANSKY Bond Shymansky 1st Season Alma Mater: Iowa, 1995 Career Record: Win Percentage:.711 University of Iowa Director of Athletics Gary Barta announced Bond Shymansky as the new head coach of the Hawkeye volleyball program on January 31, Shymansky, a UI alum and Iowa City native, is the ninth head coach of the program. The Big Ten is the most competitive volleyball conference in the country, Barta said. I was thrilled when Bond agreed to lead our program. He has a strong track record as a head coach in the sport of volleyball and he has deep Iowa ties. This is such an unbelievable opportunity for me as an Iowa City native and Hawkeye alum. But more importantly, it s a huge opportunity as a volleyball coach to be a Hawkeye and match the level of determination, intensity, commitment and expectation that the administration and Gary Barta have for the volleyball program s future success, Shymansky said. In his 12-years as a head coach, Shymansky has produced 24 all-conference honorees, three conference players of the year, two conference Freshman of the Year honorees, 17 AVCA All-Americans, two AVCA Region Freshman of the Year selections, and eight professional volleyball players. He has amassed a career record of (.727). Shymansky arrives at the University of Iowa after spending five seasons ( ) at the helm of the Marquette volleyball program, where he has developed a winning culture and created a postseason tradition. On his watch, the Golden Eagles earned their first NCAA berth and NCAA victory in school history in 2011, and returned to the postseason in 2012 and Marquette also won its first Big East regular season title and Big East Tournament championship in Shymansky was instrumental in the accomplishment of many more firsts for the Marquette volleyball program. He developed 10 honorable mention All-Americans and the program s first third team All- American, helped the program accomplish its first-ever Top 25 national ranking and a No. 8 RPI rating in 2013, and signed the first top 25 ranked recruiting class in program history. Shymansky, a two-time Big East Conference and Regional Coach of the Year, also understands the importance of academic success. The Golden Eagles posted a team grade point averages of 3.3 or higher each season of his tenure. Before Marquette, Shymansky spent seven seasons as the head coach at Georgia Tech ( ), where he guided the Yellow Jackets to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including Elite Eight and Sweet Sixteen finishes, and three Atlantic Coast Conference championships. In his tenure, Georgia Tech posted an overall mark of (.729), including a (.716) record in ACC action, and earned No. 4 and No. 6 RPI rankings. Shymansky produced a first team All-American and a three-time second team All-American at Georgia Tech, signed a Top 5 recruiting class, and was named ACC Conference and Regional Coach of the Year. Shymansky has a deep understanding of what it means to be a Hawkeye, as he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications in 1995 and a Master of Arts in English Education in 1997 from the UI. From , Shymansky was a setter and outside hitter on the UI men s volleyball club team. He and his wife, Iowa City native Catherine (Cruikshank) Shymansky, have a daughter, Corrina, and two sons, Nicholas and Bond, Jr. B1G=BIG DEAL Six Big Ten institutions appear in the most recent release of the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I Coaches Poll (Nov. 17). No. 2 Wisconsin, No. 4 Penn State and No. 10 Illinois rank in the top 10, while No. 11 Nebraska, No. 16 Purdue and No. 20 Ohio State appear in the top 20. Eight of Iowa s 11 Big Ten losses this year have been to a team currently ranked in the top 25. The Hawkeyes have four conference matches remaining in 2014, one against a currently ranked opponent (Ohio State).
