They were paced by freshman guard Jaelynn Penn who scored a career-high 25 points as Indiana shot 54 percent from the floor while holding the Skyhawks to just 14 points in the second half. The Hoosiers improved to 8-1 all-time in the opening round of the WNIT. LAST TIME AROUND Seniors Amanda Cahill and Tyra Buss were on the roster the last time the Hoosiers and Panthers faced off on Dec. 14, IU came away with a win as Cahill scored 13 points and eight rebounds while Buss added 10 points, a game-high nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. HOOSIERS IN THE WNIT Indiana is making its fourth appearance in the postseason in the last five seasons and third-straight postseason bid since joining the NCAA in The Hoosiers received the automatic bid into the WNIT for the Big Ten. IU makes its ninth appearance overall in the WNIT, holding a 13-8 overall record (10-3 at home) as it advanced to the quarterfinals in Indiana has made 15 appearances in a postseason with WNIT appearances (1998, 2001, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2013, 2017, 2018) and five NCAA Tournament berths (1983, 1994, 1995, 2002, 2016) and one NWIT appearance (1991). Prior to the NCAA, IU made an AIAW Final Four appearance in 1973 and two AIAW Elite Eight appearances in 1972 and CAHILL NAMED COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN Senior forward Amanda Cahill repeated to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team, announced by the organization VERSUS THE OPPONENT ABOUT THE PANTHERS Milwaukee had the hot hand on Thursday night as it shot 69 percent from the floor and 55 percent from 3-point range in an win over UNI. They finished the season fourth overall in the Horizon League and are led by all-conference selections senior guard Jenny Linder (14.5 ppg., 8.1 rpg.) and senior forward Steph Kostowicz (13.8 ppg., 7.6 rpg., 3.4 apg.). As a team, the Panthers are averaging 65.8 points per game while shooting 43.7 percent from the floor. SERIES HISTORY Indiana leads 2-0 LAST MEETING Dec. 14, W, (Milwaukee, Wis.) on Monday. Cahill, who holds a 3.92 GPA in Elementary education, repeats as an Academic All-American joining Terri Friedman ( ) and the sixth selection in school history. Fifteen Division I women s college basketball players earn Academic All-American distinction each year, and Cahill is one of two Big Ten selections (Carlie Wagner, Minnesota) and one of four repeat Academic All-Americans from last season. HOOSIERS AT HOME Indiana will get the chance to play in front of its home crowd again on Sunday afternoon after another winning regular season in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers finished 11-5 overall, its sixth-consecutive winning season in Bloomington. Their 11 wins mark the fifth-consecutive season IU has won double digit games at home, including all four under head coach Teri Moren. MORE RECORDS TO BREAK With six school records already broken, senior guard Tyra Buss still has potential to break one more record before her career is over. She broke the school record for assists and 3-pointers attempted in the regular season finale at Iowa while also holding records in points scored, free throws made, free throws attempted and steals. The seventh school record in her sights in the 3-pointers made record as she has scored 195 in her career. She is second all-time currently in the category and needs 11 to break the all-time record held by Kris McGrade (206). She has now scored 650 points after she added 14 points in the win over UT Martin. She surpassed the previous record of 642 points set by Karna Abram in CAHILL MAKES HER MARK Senior Amanda Cahill has also etched name into IU's record books in her final season in Cream and Crimson. She became the third player to record 1,000 rebounds along with Denise Jackson (1,273) and Whitney Thomas (1,090) to reach the career milestone. She s just the second-ever player to record over 1,800 points and 1,000 rebounds. She ranks seventh all-time in scoring (1,815), third all-time in rebounds (1,080), third in alltime double-doubles (39) and tied for fifth in blocks (129). She is also seventh amongst all active Division I players in career rebounds. PENN PUTS UP POINTS Freshman guard Jaelynn Penn continues to put up solid numbers for Indiana in her freshman season. She has posted 13 games in double figures as she set a new career-high 25 points on Thursday against UT Martin. The Louisville, Ky. native is averaging 10.7 points and 4.8 rebounds in her freshman season. She ranks sixth in points per game amongst all Big Ten freshmen, tied for third in steals (1.1), sixth in rebounding and tied for sixth in assists (2.2). She is a two-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week selection as she picked up honors in back-to-back weeks on Jan. 22 and Jan. 29 while starting every game for Indiana this season. QUADRUPLE OVERTIME It took 60 total minutes, but free throws by senior forward Amanda Cahill proved to be the game winner as IU got past No. 10 seed Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament second round, Cahill set a new career-high 38 points which also tied the fourth-best single game performance in school history. It also set a new IU Big Ten Tournament single game performance, beating out the previous mark of 31 points set by Jill Chapman in 1999 also against Michigan State. The four overtime game was the longest Big Ten Tournament game in history (men's or women's) and was the second quadruple overtime game this season in women's college basketball (Creighton defeated Drake, , on Dec. 3, 2017). The Hoosiers would advance to the quarterfinal round where it fell to No. 2 seed Maryland, BUSS, CAHILL AND PENN HONORED BY BIG TEN Senior guard Tyra Buss, senior forward Amanda Cahill and freshman guard Jaelynn Penn were all honored by the Big Ten in the annual postseason awards announced on Monday. Buss earned her third-straight All-Big Ten first team selection while Cahill also earned her third-straight All-Big Ten second team distinction. Both earned nods from the coaches and the media, with Buss coming in as a unanimous selection on the first team by the coaches. Penn earned All-Freshman team honors, the first IU freshman since 2014 to earn a spot on the team. SCHEDULE TOUGH The Hoosiers played one of the toughest schedules in the nation this season, which finished as the 11th hardest in Division I. They faced six ranked opponents this season, including four of their first seven games in Big Ten play. Of those four league foes, they met three of those on the road. In addition, Indiana has three top 50 RPI wins - Minnesota (40), Rutgers (41) and Western Kentucky (50). The Hoosiers finished out the regular season with an RPI of 54. SEND OFF IN STYLE Seniors Tyra Buss and Amanda Cahill capped off their playing careers by combining for 53 points in an win over Nebraska on Feb. 17. BUSS AND CAHILL NAMED COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT Seniors Tyra Buss and Amanda Cahill have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team, announced by the organization today. The senior duo are two of five players in District 5 and now are eligible for the organization s Academic All-American distinction, which will be announced in March. Cahill is a three-time all-district selection and a 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-American selection who holds a 3.92 GPA in Elementary education. Buss earns her first all-district honors in her career as she holds a 3.3 GPA in physical education. They are one of three pairs on the same Division I program to be named to first teams, with Belmont and Kentucky also placed two student-athletes on the first team. BUSS NAMED FINALIST FOR SENIOR CLASS AWARD Senior guard Tyra Buss is one of ten finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, announced by the organization on Feb. 8. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their athletic platforms to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. BARN BURNER STAYS WITH IU Indiana completed its first sweep of Purdue since with a win at Purdue on Feb. 12. The Hoosiers take the two-game series this season, after also picking up the win on Jan. 6 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The win was also the first for IU in Mackey Arena since Senior forward Amanda Cahill led the way with her ninth double-double this season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. BUSS SETS SCORING RECORD Senior guard Tyra Buss set another career milestone on Jan. 20 at Michigan State when she became the first Indiana Women's Basketball player to score 2,000 points. Buss is one of six players (men's or women's) at Indiana to score 2,000 points and ranks third all-time in scoring behind Calbert Chaney and Steve Alford with 2,255 points. Buss broke the record for points scored on Jan. 3 at Penn State. She eclipsed former record holder Denise Jackson's 1,917 points set in with her game-high 27 points against the Lady Lions. Currently, Buss is currently eighth amongst active career scorers in the NCAA. The 23 wins marked the seventh time in program history the Hoosiers have reached 20 wins or more, including back-to-back seasons for the first time ever. The program also featured its first All-American in 31 years, as junior guard Tyra Buss was named a WBCA All-American Honorable Mention. For the first time since , Indiana featured three players on All-Big Ten teams highlighted by a repeat All-Big Ten First Team selection Tyra Buss. Junior forward Amanda Cahill (second team) and senior guard Alexis Gassion (honorable mention) were also honored, as Gassion was selected to the league s All-Defensive team, also the first selection since In addition, Cahill earned CoSIDA Academic All-American honors, the first for the program since 1989 and the fifth player ever in school history. In her second season , Moren led the Hoosiers to the most regular season wins (20) in program history while also tying for overall wins (21) in a single season. Indiana had the school s second-most Big Ten victories (12) ever on her way to being named Big Ten Coach of the Year. She became just the second IU coach to earn the award (Maryalyce Jeremiah, 1983) while leading the program to its first NCAA Tournament berth in 14 years. The Hoosiers won their first NCAA Tournament game since 1983 with a triumph over eighth-seeded Georgia in the first round at Notre Dame as the No. 9 seed in the Lexington Region. Indiana s 21 wins marked the sixth time in program history that IU had won at least 21 games in a season as its 12 Big Ten victories were the school s most since Moren s Hoosiers finished fourth in the Big Ten, the school s highest conference finish in 18 years, and earned a No. 4 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, tying for the program s highest seed ever in conference tournament play. Under Moren in , Tyra Buss was named First Team All-Big Ten, becoming the first IU player to earn first team honors since Amanda Cahill earned Second Team All-Big Ten accolades. Buss and Cahill become the first IU duo to earn all-conference recognition in the same season since During her first year in Bloomington in , Moren led the Hoosiers to the program s best scoring average (71.9 ppg) since , the best team free throw percentage (74.3 percent) since and the most steals (284) since IU nailed point field goals, the second best total in school history, and also cracked the top five in program history in free throw percentage (4th), points scored (5th, 2,229), points per game (5th) and 3-point field goal percentage (5th, 33.1 percent). Indiana also set single game records for scoring (115) and 3-pointers made (16) in the season opening win over Gardner-Webb on Nov. 15, IU also tied the school mark for field goals made in that game (46).Off the court, Moren s team achieved a team grade point average of 3.23 in Indiana University Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass announced the hiring of Seymour, Ind., native as head coach of the IU women s basketball program on August 9, Prior to Indiana, Moren won a Missouri Valley Conference championship during her four seasons with Indiana State. She led the Sycamores to two WNIT appearances and had six players named All-MVC. ISU finished with a record in , the program s first 20-win season in eight years and just the fifth 20- win campaign in school history. With a 14-4 record in conference games, Moren s Sycamores won a share of the regular season MVC title and earned the No. 1 overall seed in the MVC Tournament. Prior to ISU, Moren was associate head coach at Georgia Tech. In each of her three years there, the Yellow Jackets made an NCAA Tournament appearance and won 22 or more games each season. Moren began her head coaching career at the University of Indianapolis ( ). The 2003 WBCA Region 4 Coach of the Year in NCAA Division II, her teams went to three consecutive NCAA Division II Tournaments and earned Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season and tournament titles in That squad finished with a 29-3 record overall and an 18-2 mark in conference play. Moren began her coaching career in at Butler ( ), leading the Bulldogs to three 20-win seasons. Moren then spent two years as an assistant at Northwestern ( ). A 1992 graduate of Purdue University, Moren earned her bachelor s degree in therapeutic recreation. She was a four-year basketball letterwinner and twoyear starter for the Boilermakers under Women s Basketball Hall of Fame Coach Lin Dunn. She was part of three NCAA Tournament teams and Purdue s first Big Ten championship. Moren graduated from Seymour High School in 1987 and was named an Indiana All Star. She led the Owls to four sectional titles, two regional championships, a semi-state win and a 1987 state finals appearance. She was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame on April 26, 2014 and will be part of the inaugural class of the Seymour Athletics Hall of Fame in December
