We HIGHLY encourage all Walkers to pre register online at Not only does this make check in go more smoothly, it allows you to get to the fun and not wait in line. 2. You can mail in money to the JDRF office before the Walk or drop by the office, if you re in the area, at 60 Walnut Street, Wellesley Hills, MA Be sure to read the enclosed Walk Money Tips Sheet. Turning in funds earlier is another great way to ensure a speedy check in process on Walk Day! For directions to the JDRF office, visit our website at newendland.jdrf.org. 3. Walk Day Security and Bag Policy: To streamline safety procedures for public events, Boston Metro as well as local police have asked that no bags be left at the Bolton Fairgrounds while you are on the Walk route. Please be prepared by only bringing bags you can walk with (small backpacks, cross body purses, fanny packs etc.). WALK DAY SCHEDULE 9:30 a.m. Check In Opens 10:15 a.m. Welcoming Remarks 10:30 a.m. DJ Arnie starts countdown and Walk Starts! 11:30 a.m. Light refreshments and snacks to be served. Entertainment to be provided by High Octane! WHEN YOU ARRIVE 1. All Teams and Individual Walkers are to proceed to the Check In area: Check In: Standard check in for all Walkers and Team Captains. If you have Walk donations to turn in, donations should be counted and sealed in a completed Walker Collection Envelope. An accurate total of money contained in the envelope must be clearly written on the outside of the envelope. Every Walker turning in funds should turn in their own separate envelope. It is extremely important that Collection Envelopes are filled out completely and accurately. Be sure to read the enclosed Walker Collection Envelope Instruction Sheet. Envelopes can be found inside Walk Brochures and we will also have Collection Envelopes available at Check In. Please see enclosed instructions on how to fill out your Collection Envelope. 2 New this year: Get Bead azzled at the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes! We want to deck you out in bling at this year s Walk! Simply fill out your qualifier card, available at Check In, and then take that card to the T Shirt/Bead Table to receive the strands you are eligible for it s as easy as that! Listed below are all the achievements we will be honoring, each with their own strand of beads! Blue Beads: Living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) Purple Beads: Sibling of a T1D Red Beads: Parent of a T1D Green Beads: Raised $500+ Gold Beads: Team Captain FOOD AND REFRESHMENTS While we provide as many refreshments as possible thanks to our in kind sponsors, please understand that we have a limited quantity of food available and we are not able to meet all dietary needs. We ask that you please come prepared in order to enjoy the activities of the day. Before the Walk: Sample apples and Cabot Cheese. During the Walk: Enjoy apples, water and Frito Lay snacks at the Water Stops. After the Walk: Stop by the Food Tent for finger sandwiches, Coca Cola products, and more. WALK ROUTE Please see the enclosed route map for details and please remember to follow the JDRF Sneaker Signs as you make your way along the route. ENTERTAINMENT/ACTIVITIES Vendor Booths will be open before and after the Walk. This year we ll be joined by Novo Nordisk and TrialNet. Also be sure to check out the JDRF Info Table for information and upcoming JDRF activities. The Kids Tent is the place to be Stop by in the morning to get a pirate tattoo and your child s ID bracelet. Pop back in after the Walk for face painting and a craft project. Walk Day Entertainment will be provided by DJ Arnie and the local cover band High Octane. There will also be a Balloon Animal Artist and a Bouncy House for the kids. WALK RESULTS AND PRIZE INFORMATION You have eight weeks after the Walk to turn in all remaining and outstanding team money; due in the office by 5 p.m. Monday, December 2, Approximately five weeks after the Walk, Team Captains will receive a mailing with Team totals. Please allow JDRF staff time to compile and mail this data before calling the JDRF office. Final results will be announced at the Central Massachusetts Walk Awards Ceremony to be held in January. Team Captains, you will receive your invitations to the Awards Ceremony in early December. PRIZE INFORMATION All donations for prize eligibility must be received by Monday, December 2, Please designate if you would like to receive a Prize Catalog in your Walker Participant Center by this date as Prize Catalogs will be ordered Tuesday, December 3. Note: Want even more of your money raised to go to diabetes research? Select I do not want a prize on your Walker Envelope and 100% of your donation will go to JDRF thank you!

3 If you have Walk gifts to turn in, donations should be counted and sealed in a completed Walker Collection Envelope. An accurate total of money contained in the envelope must be clearly written on the outside of the envelope. Every Walker turning in funds should turn in their own separate envelope. Waiver Signature B A C D IMPORTANT: Information pertaining to cash/check Walk donations! 1. Cash/check donations that have not been received by JDRF prior to Walk Day but have been entered into your Participant Center, will temporarily disappear from your Participant Center and fundraising thermometer on Monday, October 7 to avoid us counting them twice. 2. Immediately following the Walk we ll begin entering all money turned in on Walk Day and expect to be finished within four weeks. 3. Once complete, the donations you turned in on Walk Day will appear on your fundraising thermometer as confirmed donations.

4 1) Don t hold onto your Walk donations until Walk day! Turn in your Walk donations as soon as you receive them: 1. Drop them off at the JDRF office (60 Walnut Street, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481). We are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. 5 p.m. 2. Send them to the office via mail, FedEx, DHL, UPS, etc. (please don t mail cash). 2) Write the Team name and Walker name on each check. Write the Team name and Walker name on each check and/or money order you turn in. This helps ensure all Walk donations are posted to the correct Team and Walker! 3) Don t turn in cash. Convert your cash donations into a check or money order before turning it in. Checks and money orders are more secure than cash. Sometimes children want to turn in the actual cash they worked so hard to raise. Consider taking them to the bank with the cash and converting it into a money order so they can see where their cash is going. This way they can still feel proud of their fundraising accomplishments while ensuring their gift is received safely by the office. 4) Be sure personal checks/ Money Orders/Bank Checks/Treasurer s Checks have the donor s name and address on it. Some personal checks list only the name of the donor. In this case if you know the address of the donor please write it on the check. Not all money orders/bank checks/treasurer s checks include the name and address of the person purchasing it. Be sure to write the name and address of the person who purchased the money order on the money order in addition to the Team name and Walker name. We are required by the IRS to send an acknowledgement letter for gifts of $250 and above; we need the donor s address to do so. For checks under $250, their cancelled check is their receipt. If the donor address is absent, the acknowledgement letter will be sent in care of the Walker so you may forward it on to the donor.

5 In order to promote a safe and fun event designed to raise funds for JDRF and comply with the state s requirements for our use of this public space, the New England Chapter has developed the following policy. Walk Day Team Placement Walk Team Tables will be awardedd to the Top 10 Fundraising Teams Team Tables are to be used as a meeting or gathering place for Walk Teams. Team Tables can be decorated and be used to serve food to Team Walkers. Team Tables will be clearly marked on the enclosed site map that will be sent to all Team Captains and will be on the JDRF websitee ( org). Team Captains are responsible for turning in all money at Check In before they start walking. Team Tables will not be guarded while Walkerss are on the route. No items are to be left at team tables. General Policies Without specific approval of the New England Chapter office, JDRF Walkers and other attendees of the event cannot: Solicit additional funds for Walk Teams throughh the sale of items, such as bracelets, etc. Distribute information from a diabetes or other corporate vendor. No independent vendors or clubs can utilize Team Tables for soliciting purposes. Collect names, s or mailing information from any JDRF Walkers outside of collecting funds for the Walk. Drive on the fairgrounds during Walk Day. Make use of tents/tables that haven t been designated as your Team s Tent/Table. Team Captains are responsible for the actions of their Teams. Take Route 117 west four miles to the fairgrounds. From Boston and Points East: Take the Massachusetts Turnpike or Route 9 to I 495. Take I 495 North to Exit 27 (Bolton/Stow Route 117). Take Route 117 west four miles to the fairgrounds. From Route 2 and Northwest: Take Route 70 three miles south from Lunenburg to Route 117. Take a left onto Route 117 east and go one mile to the gate. From Worcester and the West: Take Interstate 190 north from Worcester or south from Route 2 to Exit 7. Take Route 117 east four miles to the fairgrounds. Parking Please follow the JDRF parking signs to the paved parking lot through the Gate 2 Fairgrounds Entrance. Parking lot volunteers will be there to direct you. Thank you for joining us at our NEW location. We hope this proves a safer Walk Route for all of our Walkers. We understand many of you drove further this year than in years past, and for that we thank you for your dedication to the Walk to Cure Diabetes and to your loved ones with type 1 diabetes (T1D).

The Type that will stop at nothing, absolutely nothing, until Type One becomes Type None. JDRF is the only global organization with a plan to progressively remove Type 1 diabetes from our lives. Since our founding in 1970, the Walk to Cure Diabetes has been our signature event. Over the years it has assembled millions of people in good weather and bad, it has raised billions of dollars for type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and it has educated the world about this disease and its complications. But none of these big numbers would have ever happened if it weren t for every One of you and for this and everything else you do, we thank you. Together we will be known as the people who cured T1D.
