2 Parent Learning Walks Learn how you can help your student at home by visiting classrooms to better understand the skills, tasks, and expectations students must meet and demonstrate. See firsthand what students are asked to do and engage in collegial discussion about how you can best help your student at home to meet these expectations. Parent Learning Walks will be conducted monthly in a select language each date. Attend this informational presentation for details about the Senior Year Expectations, graduation expectations, SAT and ACT Exams in the Senior year, College Application Process (4 year and 2 year), Scholarships and Financial Aid process and timeline! * Due to limited space, this is for parents/guardians only. 11 Student Bulletin ATTENTION SENIORS! If you have not taken your senior portrait yet, you need to do so on or before Friday, September 1 st. That is a hard deadline, and you will not be included in the yearbook if you miss it. To make an appointment, contact Southcoast Photographic at or go to southcoastphotographic.com for more info. Now that the eclipse is over - what to do with your eclipse shades? You can donate them to schools in South America and Asia! Give your eclipse glasses a second chance! Astronomers Without Borders and its partners will be announcing a program to collect glasses after the eclipse, to be sent to schools in South America and Asia when eclipses cross those continents in Don't waste. Donate! If you bring your glasses to Mr. Fournier (Rm 210) or Mr. Dwyer (Rm 209) they will ship them all off for this good cause! OR You can save them for the 2024 Solar Eclipse! They don't expire. However, if the lenses are scratched, torn or have a hole - definitely get throw them out. Calling all Centurions with a creative side: PTSA is inviting you to participate in our Reflections Art Program. Show off your talents in Dance, Video Production, Literature, Music, Photography, or Visual Arts. The theme this year is Within Reach. So let your imagination soar, and pick up a registration packet for details in the counseling office. Entries are due September 15th. What are Career Pathways? 12 Volunteer at Cypress Public Library! Cypress Library is in need of several dedicated teens to commit to volunteering each week for their Homework Help and Rookie Readers programs. It s a great way to earn community service hours, a letter of recommendation, and give back to your community! Homework Help Help kids in grades K-8 finish their homework. Mondays & Wednesdays (choose one or both days) 3:30-5:00pm Starts August 21, ends December 13. No sessions Sept 4 & 6, Oct 9 & 11, Nov 20 & 23. Rookie Readers Help kids in grades K-5 with reading practice. Wednesdays 5:30-6:30pm Starts August 23, ends December 13. No sessions Sept 6, Oct 11, Nov 23. If you volunteered this summer, your application is still valid. Contact the Cypress Library to sign up for shifts. If you volunteered last school year, please pick up a new application and sign up for shifts immediately, then return your application on your first day.

13 Safety Tips For Drivers & Pedestrians With school in session, there is significantly more traffic in and around the school area. Pedestrians, bicyclists, buses and cars all contribute to school zone congestion. In addition, children do not always follow the rules of the road. Often they enter the street from between two cars, attempt to "run" red lights with their bikes through intersections, and skateboard or walk into traffic without checking. Some parents also drop off their students in the middle of traffic and have them cross the street, instead of dropping them off in a designated and safe area. According to the National Safe Routes to School program, more children are hit by cars near schools than at any other location. Because of this, motorists must exercise increased awareness in and around a school zone. Below are some important tips and reminders to make the school zone safe. Obey all traffic laws and speed limits, Be extra vigilant in school zones and residential neighborhoods Don't double park; it blocks visibility for students and vehicles Don't block the crosswalk when stopped at a red light or waiting to make a turn, forcing pedestrians to go around you as this could put them in the path of moving traffic Check side mirrors before opening your door to exit a vehicle Always use extreme caution to avoid striking pedestrians wherever they may be, no matter who has the right of way Do not pass other vehicles in school zones or at crosswalks. Do not make illegal U-Turns Do not text or otherwise use a cell phone unless it is completely hands-free Stop for school buses that are loading or unloading children Watch for and obey signals from school crossing guards Be alert and watch for children near schools, bus stops and in school parking lots Unless licensed to do so, do not park in handicap spaces to drop off or pick up children Do not use curbside lanes (in front of school buildings) that are designated for emergency vehicles only Cross streets only at crosswalks and follow the directions given by school crossing guards Students who ride a bike should wear a helmet and follow all safety rules for bicyclists Walk don t ride a bicycle across streets and only in designated crosswalks Teenage students who drive to school should avoid speeding and minimize distractions from cell phone usage, eating, loud music or disruptive passengers Never overload a vehicle. Every passenger must use a safety belt By exercising a little extra care and caution, drivers and pedestrians can co-exist safely in school zones.
