2 The St. Patrick s Day Parade is sponsored by the St. Patrick s Day Extravaganza Committee, with the help from the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce. St. Patrick s Day activities are always held the Saturday before St. Patrick s Day or on March 17 if it falls on a Saturday. THE DETAILS FOR 2016 ***NEW ROUTE IN 2016*** Saturday, March 12 All community members are invited to the: Painting of the Shamrock 11:30 a.m. Corner of 9th Street & Phillips Avenue Proclamations will be read in the atrium of The First National Bank in Sioux Falls, followed by the Painting of the Shamrock. Parade line-up 12:30 p.m. Staging area on Main & Dakota avenues between 11th & 13th streets St. Patrick s Day Parade 2 p.m. See the Parade Route to note locations for viewing Placement in the parade is on a first-come, first-served basis and is at the discretion of Parade Officials. ***Parade participants should complete the entry registration form included in this packet to assist with parade logistics.***

All entries in the St. Patrick s Day Parade must meet strict parade standards and follow established regulations. 4 RULES TO BY ST. PATRICK S DAY REGISTRATION IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to assist in event logistics. You cannot leave and re-enter the parade. Doing so can revoke participation and could result in revocation of parade permit. No gaps in the parade. Volunteers will work to keep participants close together. When entries spread out, it becomes a safety issue. Absolutely no candy can be distributed. Sioux Falls City Ordinance states: No person conducting, managing, or participating in any parade shall distribute or permit the distribution of any candy or balloons to persons in attendance during the parade. Alcohol will not be permitted. No alcohol on floats, in vehicles, in the staging area or de-staging area, etc. If a person is drinking and operating a vehicle, he/she will be subject to removal or possible arrest by the police. These rules are state statutes. Absolutely no semi-trailers. Semi-trailers will not be allowed in the parade due to their length. There are several corners on the route and staging area, and they are too difficult to turn with such a long float. No handouts of any kind. For safety reasons, and to keep the parade flowing, the distribution of souvenirs, flyers, etc. will not be permitted. Do your best to keep litter under control. Help keep Sioux Falls beautiful! Adults 16 and over must purchase an official St. Patrick s Day Button. ($3) Buttons are available at the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce office (200 N. Phillips Ave., Suite 200), at several downtown businesses and will also be available the day of the parade. A St. Patrick s Day theme is required for all parade participants. Use the color green or any other St. Patrick s Day theme to fit the festive occasion. Each motorized float must provide walkers on each side of entry to ensure crowd safety.
