Christmas melodies, costumed characters and twinkling lights atop old Gold Rush buildings remind visitors of another time. There is no admission charged. At locations throughout downtown, Victorian singers, bagpipers, brass bands and strolling minstrels provide warm Christmas music. Nevada City s famous and a living nativity scene can be found, along with hot roasted chestnuts and horse drawn carriage rides. Costumed art and craft vendors line the streets with unique Christmas and gift items for sale. The downtown specialty shops are open for business. Food vendors sell tasty treats including sausage and pork sandwiches, hot apple cider, mulled wine, hot toddies and delicious pastry treats. Shuttle Buses With limited parking in the downtown area, shuttle buses carry visitors from the Nevada County Government Center off Hwy 49. Wednesdays 4:30-9:30pm Sundays Noon - 7pm $5 roundtrip For more information, contact the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce at (530) or toll free (800) 655-NJOY. Visit:

The bonfire is at the intersection of Commercial and Main streets. Don t miss this grand tradition!
4 Shop Locally for the Holidays You don t need to drive down the hill for your holiday shopping. The Nevada City Chamber of Commerce is encouraging all Nevada County residents to Shop Locally during the upcoming holiday season. Local merchants do a large percantage of their annual sales at this time of year. Shopping locally benefits our community through taxes, employment and economic development. Nevada City offers a diverse selection of quality merchandise at very competitive prices. Many local shops offer free gift wrapping, lay-away and personal customer service. Downtown Nevada City is decorated with natural green swags on the gas lights and the buildings are highlighted with white lights which creates the magic image of Nevada City. Most stores are open everday from 10am to 5:30pm and later on Wednesday evenings. Santa Visits It has been learned from a very reliable source that the Jolly Old Elf, Santa Claus, himself, is available for visits and photos at 215 Broad Street on each of the Wednesday evenings and Sundays afternoons of. The members of Evangeline #9 Order of Eastern Star help him at a cost of only $5 for a picture. Group pictures are possible depending on the size of the group. Pictures are not necessary to talk to Santa so children of all ages can visit with him. Monies collected will go to various charities and other organizations.
