CALGARY ISLAMIC SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION GUIDE
Introduction This guide is designed to be short and to the point. Its main purpose is to act as a quick reference for drivers, students, parents and administrators of the Transportation Department of the Calgary Islamic School. From its earliest inception The Calgary Islamic School offered transportation based on door to door service. However for logistical, financial and practical reasons this system is no longer viable. We now offer stops based on Transit Stops, Block Stops, or Community Stops depending on the situation. Routes are designed to eliminate areas that are not cleaned by the City during winter months, however this is not the only criteria. Presently we offer services to six routes: 1. NW: Harvest Hills, Panorama, Coventry, Beddington, Edgemont.. 2. SW1: Christie Park, Signal Hill, Glamorgan 3. SW2: Cougar Ridge, Aspen, Richardson. 4. SE: Douglsadale, Cranston, McKenzie, Silverado.. 5. NE1: Castleridge, Martha s Haven, Taradale, Saddleridge 6. NE2: Rundle, Marlborough, Radcliffe, Penbrooke. These routes are subject to change from year to year depending on student demographics. Bus Service is a privilege and is subject to the following conditions: A Busing Request Form is filled out and submitted to the Transportation Office. You may also the Transportation Supervisor at transportation@cislive.ca the necessary information. (Information Required: Student Name, Campus Id, Grade, Parent, Address, Phone Number and .) It is preferred that you use since it saves paper and ink. It may take up to five school days to process, however we do our best to get it done as soon as possible. Payment for busing must be up to date or else cancellation will occur. Student behavior must be acceptable - as described in this guide. Bus service is provided on a month to month basis. Priority will be given to two-way requests. Please consult our website: for maps of routes.
Bus Routes Pickup and Drop off Procedures Routes shall be set by the Transportation Supervisor with the objective being the least time children spend on the bus. The aim is to minimize the time of the route as a whole. In order to achieve this, we utilize an optimizing route planner software. Students are to be ready based on the times the driver assigns. The time given will be based on a window since no one can predict road conditions. The student must be ready based on the earlier time not the later. For example, if a student is given a pick up window of 7:00 am to 7:07 am then the student should be ready and waiting for 7:00 am not 7:07 am. The driver will not wait more than one minute, especially during winter. Depending on snow fall and road conditions, drivers may ask students to walk to the closest safe spot for the bus. Students are required to sit in assigned seats and obey the driver at all times. Drop off may not be in the same order as pickup depending on the optimization program; the objective being to make the run, as a whole, shorter. Should it be the case that a run is to be cancelled due to inclement weather or otherwise, the driver shall inform parents by giving them a phone call. We aim to put this information on the website also. *** Please note parents are not to contact drivers to make alternate arrangements for pick up and drop off addresses unless first getting the approval of the Transportation Supervisor. ALL ADDRESSES MUST BE PRE-APPROVED AND REQUESTED BY THE PARENT IN WRITING. If a student is being dropped off or picked up while in the care of someone other than a family member, it is the obligation of the parent to furnish the transportation department with the Guardian s name and phone number. The Transportation department must receive this information from the parent in writing.
BUS RULES AND STUDENT BEHAVIOUR STUDENTS SHALL ADHERE TO THE FOLLOWING RULES. DISCIPLINARY ACTION MAY BE TAKEN BASED ON NON-COMPLIANCE. Sit in assigned seat given by the driver. Keep discussion at a moderate level so as not to disturb others. Be respectful at all times. Be courteous and accommodating to others, especially younger children. Refrain from standing when the bus is in motion. Sit and face forward when the bus is in motion. Keep area clean and refrain from littering. Students are not to use the garbage bin while the bus is in motion but are to keep refuse in a bag or pocket until the time of disembarking. Obey the driver at all times. Students shall not vandalize the bus in any way. Parents shall be liable for damages done by their children. Students shall not throw objects around the bus or outside the window. Students shall not put their heads, arms or bags outside. Students shall not eat or drink on the bus. These are the basic set of rules that must be adhered to, however, any behavior that is considered unsafe, obscene, abusive, or vulgar shall be reported by the driver and subsequent disciplinary action may be taken. The objective of the Calgary Islamic School is to foster a safe, caring and respectful environment with special attention given to younger children. It is imperative that older children exhibit good behavior and show leadership; this way the younger ones will absorb those qualities naturally.
DISCIPLINARY PRODEDURE Stage 1: Stage 2: Stage 3: The driver may give a verbal warning depending on the severity of the infraction. The driver fills out an Incident Report Form and submits it to the Transportation Supervisor. This form is then processed and submitted to the Vice Principal who will then investigate the matter further. The Vice Principal may require the presence of the parent who will be contacted and a meeting will be set up. Consequences A warning letter may be sufficient. Students may be denied service temporarily or permanently. More severe punishments may be meted out as deemed necessary. DRIVERS ARE NOT TO CONTACT PARENTS REGARDING BEHAVIOR ON THE BUS. PARENTS ARE NOT TO CONTACT DRIVERS REGARDING BEHAVIOUR ON THE BUS. Parents are not to contact drivers about the route; these matters are to be brought to the transportation department directly. PLEASE DIRECT ALL COMMENTS AND CONCERNS TO THE transportation supervisor: transportation@cislive.ca.
