12 Equity The Lawrence SRTS program will work to ensure that every student, no matter their background or situation, has the opportunity to safely walk and bike to school and benefit from the Safe Routes to School activities.

13 Education Education activities include: Teaching pedestrian, bicycle, and traffic safety Creating awareness of lifelong healthy routines This matches 3 of the health standards at K-4 and 3 of health standards at 5-8. Education doesn t just happen in the classroom. It continues with parents, neighbors, and all drivers near the school.

14 Encouragement Encouragement strategies are about having fun. They generate excitement and interest in walking and bicycling. This can be paired with our PBIS goals for students. Encouragement and education activities closely work together. Special Events: Marathon clubs Bike rodeos Walking school buses Offer teachable moments to reinforce safe walking and bicycling behaviors and safety

15 Enforcement Enforcement is a network of community members working together to promote safe walking, bicycling and driving. This can be accomplished through safety awareness, education and, where necessary, the use of ticketing for dangerous behaviors. Enforcement includes students, parents, adult school crossing guards, school personnel and neighborhood watch programs all working in conjunction with law enforcement. Working together to enforce rules for safe walking, bicycling and driving makes it safer and easier for everyone to walk and bicycle.
