Mental Toughness Positive Thinking Strife to drive to your success Commitment SPORTSMANSHIP Sportsmanship is an aspiration or ethos that a sport or activity will be enjoyed for its own sake, with proper consideration for fairness, ethics, respect, and a sense of fellowship with one's competitors. In general, sportsmanship refers to virtues such as fairness, self-control, courage, and persistence,and has been associated with interpersonal concepts of treating others and being treated fairly, maintaining self-control if dealing with others, and respect for both authority and opponents. Sportsmanship is also looked at as being the way one reacts to a sport/game/player. The four elements of sportsmanship are often shown being good form, the will to win, equity and fairness. All four elements are critical and a balance must be found among all four for true sportsmanship to be illustrated Since every sport is rule driven, the most common offence of bad sportsmanship is the act of cheating or breaking the rules to gain an unfair

3 advantage Sore loser behaviour includes blaming others for the loss, not accepting responsibility for personal actions that contributed to the defeat, reacting to the loss in an immature or improper fashion, making excuses for the defeat, and citing unfavourable conditions or other petty issues as reasons for the defeat "It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game Examples:- 1) ROBBIE FOWLER The renowned Liverpool striker claimed he had not been fouled by David Seaman after being awarded a penalty in a Premier League game at Highbury in But the referee insisted the spot-kick had to be taken so Fowler hit a weak shot straight at Seaman 2) ADAM GILCHRIST It came as a surprise to see the wicketkeeper-batsman walk after being given not out by umpire Rudi Koertzen, after edging behind in the 2003 World Cup semifinal against Sri Lanka. FAVOURITE SPORT- ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players with a spherical ball. It is played by 250 million players in over 200 countries and dependencies, making it the world's most popular sport. The game is played on a rectangular field with a goal at each end. The object of the game is to score by getting the ball into the opposing goal. Players are not allowed to touch the ball with their hands or arms while it is in play, unless they are goalkeepers (and then only when within their penalty area). Other players mainly use their feet to strike or pass the ball, but may also use

5 any part of their body except the hands and the arms. The team that scores the most goals by the end of the match wins. If the score is level at the end of the game, either a draw is declared or the game goes into extra time or a penalty shootout depending on the format of the competition.
